I know there are lots of poor ones and from what Iv seen alot fewer good ones.
But what exatly are the good ones called? (I havent run into all that many)

The big pirates are called Alliances, like CA, PA, FU, FA, and they blob up key systems ganking anyone that tries to enter "their" space. They hog all the resources and kill people indiscriminantly. Although if you are not part of said alliance and you have the audacity to challenge them, you get called a pirate.

I think piracy has evolved into either organized crime syndicates (alliances) or anti-alliance terrorism (m0o, EVOL, Sharks, CELES, RKK)

Poor pirates too?!? I dunno, some pirates are poor - especially if you get shot up regularly. But there are quite a few that have some decent cashflow.

the real pirate-corps are small, mobile, elitist corps like the jokers or teddybears, doing their dirty deeds just for plain isk. everything with a political motivation would be classified as something different, like institutional state-terrorists (ca), fanatic followers of religious/political cults(like the former f-e and their emperor), large conglomerates of traders and miners using semi-criminal methods(like pa), politically driven freedomfighters or guerillieros(like Jericho Fraction), or just blatant murderers (like zombie inc). |

I've never shot down a person that paid the ransom I requested.
Emphasis on NEVER.
Not once. All who have paid my ransom have been let go. No one has even died after paying ransom, so no need to say that I would pay them back in such a situation.
And Space Invaders have always reimbursed people who got shot down by mistake after payment was made, which rarely happens as we're usually over 20% sober.

Those who think I'm lying are free to not pay the ransom I request.
And as I recall, the one and only time we didnt pay some guy back was in Aurohunen when he logged off after we ship scanned him or something. I wasnt there, but I still support the decision of my corpmates.
But as I said, if thats not good enough for you, you're free not to pay.

Ahem, F-E is dead now, and in thier defense, they gave going legit a whole hearted try. M0o are murauders, not pirates. M0o hasn't been very indirect in thier nomadic smash and grab. OC, however, is a pirate corp. Why? Because they actually take tolls, they actually persue targets in "warzones" with the best loot. I've never seen a can justleft there un touched when oc is around, I cant say the same for m0o, AND Omega Corp, sorry C4, claimed an already claimed area of space... it seems they gave it up just as quickly.

Thats not True, FA, CFS, and SA actually ASK you to leave or stop or whatever. If you arent on our KOS list, which is kinda hard to get on these days, CA membership has taken a steep drop off, we will pay you for wrongfully damaged goods. Its not good policy to kill inocent travelrs who amazingly dont know any better. The others on the otherhand, I cant speaks for.

id have to say that m0o is the original pirate corp, they really made a name for themselves back in the days of the mara/passari blockade. however, the first pirate corp i ever knew was Spectral Armada...they have long since been dead though

From back in the golden days.
That was was my first pirate corp and the one I have the fondest memories of.
They corrupted my soul and I hold them responsable for all the poddings I have since been forced to commit.
Spectral Armarda are just about a myth now, remembered only by those of us with grey hair.
Shame.

Hmm, you shouldn't jettison those cookies...I found them and ate them sorry but Im addicted to chocolate cookies.
But why is every1 against pirates? They keep the normal EVE player on his toes so he doesn't get to careless. We keep the economy on a good roll providing a good service to the market so that zydrine and megacyte are always in need when the normal citizen wants some to build his Apoc the third time.
This goes all 1 circle...Pirates kill Carebears - Carebears start mining - Carebears build ships - Carebears go mining again - Pirates kill carebears - Pirates go ore stealing - Carebears go nuts and start mining on a cruiser - Carebears start selling high end minerals - Buy low ends from the pirate - Carebears build their ship....pirates.....
