Hey guys, Just looking ahead here, wanting to fly Recons and I'm a little stuck on which one to choose. I really like both the Rapier and the Falcon, can I get some pilots to weigh in one the pros and cons of each of these please? And I SUPPOSE you other Recon pilots' opinions would be quite welcome as well.
Thanks guys.

Once you can fly a falcon, you'll never be asked to fly anything else. Bear that in mind.

Edited by: Marcus Druallis on 28/04/2008 05:04:29 Rapier can solo, falcon cannot.
However, a falcon can COMPLETELY change the battle in any smaller gang engagement. --

Falcon is a awesome utility recon. 200-250km ECMing people, Cov Ops, can use Cynogen etc etc. Its basically the perfect force recon ship.
You can log anyware due to Real Life since you have cov ops, you can open a cyno to get capitals to move though, you can work with Black ops and become a prober. You have a licence to KILLMAIL *****, since you spread your jaming all over the place. You are the most important recon for gang.

Um, the other force recons can do those utility things too.
The ECM is very good, but the Falcon loses specialness as fleet size increases. In a gang of 8-12 or so, it's outstanding. By the time you're in 30 vs 30 engagements, the Falcon is horribly vulnerable unless there are lots of other EW ships in your fleet. As fleet size increase to triple figures, you can hope to be lost in the overview, but if the enemy FC knows his business and has instructed some of his fast support ships and maybe a few snipers to filter for EW ships, then you're toast if your grid loads only a few seconds slower than that one Vaga or sniper BS pilot. If you're lucky and manage to warp out with a few points of structure left, then you'll most likely miss most of the fight.
CONCORD provide consequences, not safety; only you can do that. |

Falcons are good, if you don't mind being helpless on your own. They take a bit of practice to fly well, but are valuable assets to a gang.
Rapiers... well, nano is the flavour of the month at the moment. Rapiers are the specific counter to it. (And useful off their own bat).
So ... erm:
Rapier - fast, does damage, is fairly close in fighting, and slaughters anythign small.
Falcon - slow, low damage output, fragile as a fragile thing. Jams stuff. At long range.
Choose which suits you best :) -- Crane needs more grid 249km locking? |
