Does anyone else think that combat in eve is lacking a certain grandness? Seems to be lacking in scale( both in terms of ship sizes, weapon effects and damage)?
Maybe it has something to do with how easy it is to acquire non-capital ships in relation to how easy it is to acquire money? Maybe combat would be more strategic and interesting if ships were several times harder to buy, thus making them more valuable and more in tune with empire flagships?
Maybe eve combat needs to be reworked so ships have less weapon points, weapons do more damage, and add greater variability to how much a weapon can damage a ship. Thus adding a greater sense of chance to match piloting skills when it comes to combat, instead of the size and numbers game we somewhat have now.

Less weapon or more ship points will make the fights last longer, only encouraging blobbing.

I agree with making ships more expensive. Being able to buy a complete frigate for the same price as a Local Intertia Stab goes for on the market is a bit dumb in my opinion.

If you look at those great space battles form movies theres always tons of ammunition flying around. I think a lot of the emptiness of eve fleet battles is because everything is instant apart form missiles, theres not much apart form ships to look at.

Yes, make ships more expensive so even less people will want to PVP. Due to the abundance of people who think PVP's risk vs reward is so great right now and everyone shooting everything in sight everywhere I go, I think we need something like this amazing idea to calm things down a little /SIGN ME UP

Kind of like how a supermini hatchback costs the same as the transmission on an MBT.

Less weapons, more hitpoints and more valuable ships wont change anything!
There are three basic principles you wage war with:
- Numerical advantage (More players on your side increases your chance to win) - Technical advantage (Better players/ships on your part increases your chance to win) - Positional advantage (If you can divide the enemy, fight at an allied POS, get him into a bubble, it increases your chance to win)
Any factor that influences the outcome of a fight can be attributed to one of these three means. Furthermore, war is a means to the end of securing your own interests strategically in peace. (check wiki to see its true). This implies that people that can secure their interests without war and in peace will never want to war in the first place. Hence, we get the mission running majority. There certainly are people that want to be on a lot of killmails or want to humiliate others, and they need to make war in order to meet their ends, but these are the minority, since most people arent sociopaths or daredevils or suicidal, not even in a video game.
in conclsuion, EvE has scale in numbers, material and position, its just that it is implemented in such a way that war is rarely strategic to most players, since it doesnt let them strife for their goals better.
The goal of most players of eve is to raise isk in peace. If you want 24/7 action for a tactical (and no strategic) goal, you should play a team deathmatch shooter, or a game were combat is of no consequences to other parts of the game.

I agree on that ships should be more expensive. Actually the current prices are ok, if there were not insurance, which makes the ship cost almost nothing but the fittings.
Once upon a time a battelship was a mighy weapon, while the regular joe was flying a frigate or a cruiser. Today anyone who played a year owns a battelship fleet, they don't cause the "wohaa" effect anymore, instead it becomes dull to see a 50 mothership blob. People should think about what a battelship is, it's size, hundreds of crewmen etc. - and all this you can afford with 1 hour mining ? That's out of touch with reality.

Yeah, I agree. I kinda wish there were more shots flying around, even if it were purely visual.
Compare Sins of a Solar Empire battles to Eve battles. They look so much cooler and more epic. I realize they're completely different games, though, but Eve battles could stand to look more epic, IMO. More like the Lacrimosa Tortuga RandomSpanishWord video that I saw. :)
