i'm a pure minmatar pilot whit 4.5mil sp
and i'm a bit confused about what can a minmatar do? shuld i nano every ship? try an armor tank (rupture hurrycane) or fit as much gyros i can and try to gank??
after making some steps out the frigate's world i found difficult, (in the beginning of my pvp career), to find out a good strategy-fitting to survive and be effective in lowsec life, whith my low skillpoints.... so the title of my topic... anyone has advice to give? |

Being purely a Gallente pilot, i can't offer you much advice however, I have seen the Rupture and the Hurricane in PvP settings a lot and they are both fantastic ships if fitted and piloted right. I've seen a rupture take down BCs and HACs. I would focus on gunnery skills and support skills. Get to the point where you can use T2 guns and resists on your ships plus weapon falloff rigs. Eve, I don't think, should be about how many ships you can fly, but how many ships you can fly well. I have 11m SP and love to fly Thoraxs and Vexors. So shoot for the Rupture and maybe get a Hurricane for missions or gang Ops. I've seriously considered training minmatar frig/cruiser so i can fly the rupture. The rupture does quite well with a 1600mm plate and t2 guns - although it'll be quite slow. Good luck.

Problem is that minmatar are all over the place when it comes to weapons and armor/shields. But once you get your shield/armor/guns/missiles/drones skills up they can really shine. I would focus on a special class or even a special ship that would meet your needs. The hurricane for example, which can be a dual-rep armor tanker or nanoed shieldtank semi-gank fit (or all out gank). |

With minmatar im afraid you have to focus in: Navigation,Shield Tanking,Armor Tanking,Projectile Weapons and Torps.
Minmatar is extremly skill intensive, like mentioned before, they are all over the place, some of their ships use shield tank, some use armor tank, others focus on speed for survival etc. But for starter/basic minmatar ships focus on armor tank and proj and then on nav. |

imho there are three things to master that will greatly improve your survivability and effectiveness. number one and two go for everybody, number three is kinda ship specific.
1) situational awareness 2) the scanner 3) barrage M |

i think the only real issue i had with minmatar was their ammo types.... so much good stuff i never could make up my mind which to use. their all decent and have bonus and drawbacks. Over all my impressions of minmatar over my years of playing is that they are "hardmode" when it comes to skilling up but when you do... oohh boy are you going to shine.
with only 4.5 SP's i recommend you stay in the frigate world some more while yo work on a cheap version of a nano-vaga. So youse frigs and try out a stabber(counter part to the vaga) until you feel comfy blowing the cash on the vaga. but once you get ur vaga ull going to enjoy life quite well. Just remember minmatar favor speed tactics so if u can't nano it be careful how you set it up. I tend to stay away from ships i can't nano out with the exception of the hurricane. I tend to like slugfests with the hurricane but i know full well it can be nano'ed as well.
Over all find the play style that you like man ive seen some people who like nanoing out everything, others like tanking everything, etc... thats one thing that minmatar offers is versatility in combat style.

My training path which worked out well...
Train for Tech II AC and Artillery Train for Tech II MWD Train for ECM Drones Train for Tech II Shield Tank
There is only one ship in the minmatar fleet that require high drone skills and that is the Typhoon. Stay away from this ship untill you have 25 mil + SP :P
I never used Missile either, don't train them early. Use NOS and NEUT in your spare highs, more effective.
Save Armor tank for last. Most fun ships for matar shield tank (cyclone, vaga, hugin, rapier)

Minmatar ships are all over the place. It reduces your training time a lot if you focus on one ship at a time instead of training all of the support skills for every ship.
IMO Minmatar makes a great cross train race for experienced pilots, but not really ideal from character creation.

In a word - experiment. The minmatar are (probably) the best at nanoing (vaga, slepnir), but at the battleship level, dps is kinda... bad compared to the other races. That being said, they probably have the best small/medium ships around. A gank rupture is a great way to blow people out of the sky and have fun in small gangs. A semi-nanoed stabber is a great way to get used to how nano's work and train up for the vaga later on.
The other very useful option is to go for the recon line (everyone will want you in their gang). The one problem with minmatar is generally they have the worst tanks of all the ships out there. Yes, the hurricane has a great duel rep tank... but the drake and the myrm both have stronger tanks and the harbinger is just as good.
Personally, as minmatar I'd learn nano and gank, and go have fun that way.

Edited by: RuleoftheBone on 28/04/2008 15:50:27 It depends more on the type of pilot you are and the ships themselves. I am 100% Minmatar specc'd so here-have .02 ISK:
Minmatar=Versatility
Minmatar=Patience required
Minmatar=Does not always mean "nano" which is an overused stupid term anyway. Some do well armor tanked and other perform better shield/speed fit.
Minmatar=Scary payoff starting roughly at 5-7 million SP (as you get competent in say Minnie Inty's/AF's.
I'll put it this way--at 25 mill SP currently I have only just trained to fit/fly a T2-geared Tempest. The skills I picked up along the way (shield/engineering/armor/T2 sml-med-large guns) just keep building on each-other.
My training route has been Inty-AF-Covops-HAC-Recon-EAF-HIC-BS. With regard to tanking I concentrated initially on shield/speed tanks (buffers really) and only in the last few months have I brought the armor skills along.
Specifically for losec? Tough to say given your skill points. Armor tanks are usually for sentry work....shield/speed for other things. It really depends on the ship you want to fly.
Hope that sort of helps. As I mentioned....Minmatar are best served with patience and well-rounded skills. Then they are devastating .
**EDIT**And then if you ain't the capital flying type you start crosstraining. Hello Curse and Pilgrim .

I generally try and shield tank minmatar ships if they have 4+ medium slots and fill the lows with a combo of +damage modules or tings to help the shields. _ EVE RELATED CONTENT |

Edited by: Greenbolt on 28/04/2008 16:45:16 Edited by: Greenbolt on 28/04/2008 16:44:11 Im at 40M sp and just picked up T2 large Artillary last week. (Purely Minmatar Spec).
I started out - Tackle Rifter, Gank Rupture, Tackle Jaguar, Mission running Cyclone, Mission Running typhoon (T2 Missiles+T2 Drone skills), Rapier (I spent a LONG time in rapier for over the last year I fly it 99 percent of the time for pvp ), Gank Hurricane, Broadsword and just now trying out Mealstrom and Tempest.
(I define gank as 2-3 gyrostabs low and then a plate and whatever else I can fit low).
As stated ..the medium ship classes are where minmatar shine. (Though with T2 armor tank and good drone missile skills the phoons an ok mission boat).
So pick the style you like...speed tanking for stabber and vagabond and rapier or gank on the Rupture, Hurricane
Or Tank and bubble on the Broadsword (still learning how to use this one)
Once one finishes training..train the other.
If your looking for small to medium gang pvp...as stated above..the rapier will make you everyones best friend. (Just be aware nano gangs will do their best to primary you). --------------------------------------------------- Scordite -Who was it that said that flying minmatar is kinda like going down a flight of stairs on an office chair while firing an uzi? |

This is actually pretty good advice I'd say. Getting all those gun skills will help when it comes time to jump into a Vagabond or other ship, and I have definitly been owned by more than one hurricane in my time.
And to reiterate on the "not how many ships you can fly. . . " part, I'd agree. I can FLY most ships in the Caldari Arsenel but I am by far more proficient in cruisers and battle cruisers because my skill training focused on those ships for a very long time thanks to my propensity for explosion that leads to a lack of funds for battleships.
