Being an avid Battletech fan as well as EVE. I have noticed many parallels between these two forces.
Mercenary Coalition. I have been a massive fan of your work ever since i heard about EVE in 2005 and have seen many movies and read many forum threads of your deeds and personalities and i feel you do seem to have many of the same traits as the legendary Inner spere mechwarrior mercenaries.
Wolf's Dragoons. (taken from game) "The name is synonymous with skill, courage, professionalism, and innovation. For more than a generation, the mysterious and highly disciplined unit of Wolf's Dragoons have set the standard for Inner Sphere mercenaries. Using their advanced BattleMechs and superior training to defeat the best MechWarriors the Inner Sphere had to offer Wolf's Dragoons has proven to be the best of the best. Under the leadership of founder Jaime Wolf, the Dragoons have done more to professionalize the mercenary industry than any other unit in existence, through their disciplined example on the battlefield, their Hiring Hall in the city of Harlech, and their extensive training facilities on Outreach."
Wolf's dragoons fought against every single major power in the galaxy, testing their strengths and weaknesses (originally as a recon mission for a clan invasion, but let's not talk about that) and decimated all they encoutered. They set up Merc-net a system that monitored who-was-fighting-who and flagged dis-reputable factions that either used mercs as bullet shields or merely didnt pay up. They got given there homeworld as a gift for good srvice. (i know you guys had to build your own hehe).
Forgive me if this thread seems pointless to most of you, but in my mind so many things seem to match.

I really don't know what can be classed as totally similar. but i have always seen the two groups in the same light. Big Merc units that pave the way and set standards that others now use as a benchmark.

just to be sure i got your point right:
more like allies or like axis? in 1939 or 1945 ? what scenario, europe or pacific ? western or eastern front ?
stick to the rl analogies, they are bad enough

It's a nice thought for RP, but not really good discussion for CAOD.. the differences between romantic stories and ingame realities are too great.. ------------------

Wow....blast from the past. I think it's safe to say that when it comes to "ftw", it's impossible to get more win than Wolfs Dragoons.
Quite possibly equal parts sex and win really.

Yeah, I gotta reply here since.... well, if you know the name of our corp and don't know where it comes from your not really that hardcore of a btech fan.
Anyway.
You forgot something in your MC = Wolfs dragoons thing.
In the most recent incarnation of the universe the Dragoons were attacked EN MASS by the word of blake. A group so intent on taking over the universe that they used atomics to take care of much of the WD. I guess it does kinda fit EVE's MC since MC sided with the forces they were sent to scout and invade, then another group (maybe a reborn BoB or whatever if you want to get technical) destroyed them for that.
Wolfs Dragoons was smashed from 7 regiments to about 1. With the current forces arrayed against them and the splintering in their ranks you can say that they might be on the same road. We're all still waiting for the 'suprise' attack that many think MC is going to launch against BoB to defend their home. But with many MC saying "well the constellation we built up is kinda shatty, why should we?" it might not happen.
Both groups are/were defending their homes. TINFOIL MODE ON! But the MC here doesn't have to follow any set story line, they could pick up and go capture one of the mid regions pretty easily (fade, Cloud ring, maybe another industrial alliance) declare true neutrality along with the rest of Tortuga and restart from there. I don't have a great love for MC, having fought them before and losing a home to them. But I don't wish disbandment on any group of friends working together. It'll be interesting to see how they reinvent themselves.
So the parallel between MC and WD is kinda accurate, but I doubt the mods will let this thread live long.

Edited by: Rimhawk on 28/04/2008 22:51:56 (Former) Battletech/Mechwarrior fans keep popping out of the EVE woodwork don't they? I wonder if it's a coincidence that so many mechwarrior fans ended up in EVE. :P
PS: Former Mechwarrior Leages (MWL) senior admin here, for those in the know... ;) ... But you might have guessed that from our corp name. .
