Greetings pilots of New Eve!
I am seeking your support in this first election to the Council of Stellar Management, the first of what we all hope will be many successful panels of podpilots empowered to liaise on your behalf with the 'Powers That Be'.
I am Inanna and you can visit my website at http://InannaZuni.com/ where you will not only be able to read about my history as a pilot (and my alter ego, Alison) but some of the principles I will bring to the Council. You can read more on that on my blog at http://inanna-zuni.livejournal.com/ where you can comment, leave anonymous feedback and ask questions. You can also find me ingame on channel 'ZUNI'.
I offer myself as your candidate.
I ask for your vote so that you may have a voice.

Hi,
As this is an issue close to my heart, after reading your blogs, do you think that being a "single woman" will help or hinder your campaign to become CSM? Has it helped or hindered you in EvE as a whole? What are your views on improving the environment for women in EvE?
Thank you for taking the time out to answer. --------------------------------------

Having read Zuni's blog and site, I'm sure that she would be a great independent rep - free from big corp or alliance ties, and that she has she has a good knowledge of all the different aspects of eve. On top of that, we need more sassyness in this election ;)
Vote Zuni!

I have several questions, and taking a page out of Talkuth RelĘs book, I decided to ask each candidate in their own threadą
1)Invention ū A good idea that still needs worką a.Have you ever tried invention? b.What ideas do you have to improve invention?
2)Pilot Security Level ū Should it be more important? a.(In High Sec) ū Should Concord react faster if the victim has a higher security level? If the attacker has a lower rating? b.Should the Security Level of a system affect changes to Pilot Security level changes? c.Should the Security Level of a Targeted Pilot have more of an effect on the security change of the attacker?
3)Industry ū The Creators of Eve a.Do you regularly build anything? b.Do you regularly mine? c.What do you think could be done to improve industry in Eve? d.You have been asked to help with new ships for industrial characters, describe a few ideasą

In one aspect, gender doesn't matter! There are plenty of pilots (indeed, some candidates) who are playing opposite to their 'real life' sex and that is fine, it is arguably what gaming is about - the opportunity to experience and behave differently to how you would in planetside life.
As regards whether it will make a difference, I hope it doesn't. Candidates for the Council are all pilots - whether fighters, industrialists, pirates or miners - and we need that wide base of experience and knowledge to create an effective Council. If everyone elected came from just 0.0, just the mega alliances, just factional warfare, just pirating, just carebears, etc, then we wouldn't be doing the best for the game. That I am (in game and planetside) female quite probably makes me look at some aspects differently, but i believe it shouldn't affect whya nd how you select which candidate to support in the next two weeks.

I wouldn't try.
It isn't whether a pilot is a woman or a man ingame or planetside; what matters for your choice is whether they can bring the right skills to the job. Does your proclaimed position apply to the (RL) men who play (EVE) women? How about (RL) women who play (EVE) men? This isn't about gender but about who can bring effective skills and knowledge to serve the wider player population on the Council.

I do both myself, the first for ISK, the second for materials for manufacturing (mostly ammo - I get through a lot! - but some for retail. I believe there are issues around suicide ganking which has become a problem due to the lack of repercussions on pirates who engage in it. I have nothing against piracy - it is an obvious outcome of the game (though I don't like being left floating in a pod when I find a gatecamp!) - but it needs to have more of an effect depending upon the security level of the system. Nowhere in space is 'safe'. Ever. But some areas - especially where newer pilots are just starting out - are supposed to be safer than others, and the game mechanics should, I believe, recognise that more.
I am very much into the Rp aspects of the EVE universe, and indeed it was a part of the attraction of joining the alliance which I am now in, but the reduction (aka disappearance) of CCP-initiated RP events has, I believe, had a detrimental effect on the pilot involvement with the RP storylines. Recently there was a news announcement that something particular was about to happen (an execution in Amarr space iirc) and our alliance was considering mounting a rescue attempt. Suddenly, however, the next CONCORD newsflash told us it had already happened - during DT. I would hope that as White Wolf 'bed in' to the CCP - EVE universe we might see a return to player involvement in these threads.

I like questions ;-)
Originally by: Hamfast 1)Invention ū A good idea that still needs worką a.Have you ever tried invention? b.What ideas do you have to improve invention?
I haven't but corp colleagues do. Currently the reason I don't is that the number of skill pre-requisites requires substantial training time which is for the moment better directed in other areas. It is also difficult to understand what you might get out of trying for an invention. Yes, where there are a number of T2 units you can now choose between them, but it isn't always clear what the rate of success might be and what the final BPC might be worth (so that you know whether the effort of trying is cost-effective or not)
Originally by: Hamfast 2)Pilot Security Level ū Should it be more important? a.(In High Sec) ū Should Concord react faster if the victim has a higher security level? If the attacker has a lower rating? b.Should the Security Level of a system affect changes to Pilot Security level changes? c.Should the Security Level of a Targeted Pilot have more of an effect on the security change of the attacker?
In simple terms, absolutely yes. There is no point in having CONCORD standings in Empire space if they are effectively meaningless. At one level CONCORD ships should respond to all distress calls in some way, but the system's level appears to be the only criterion for the rate of that response at present. Possibly pilots with higher security levels are supplied by CONCORD with special communications equipment that has a slightly faster emergency-call-to-nearest-base time, or something similar.
As regards the relative security levels of pilots, I've played some TT games and have my d10 dice around, but I wouldn't be keen on seeing EVE become some sort of similar calculation-fest.
I do believe though that attacking someone in hi-sec unprovoked should lead to a faster loss of general standings than it does at present (ie suicide ganking should have a stronger penalty, not to stop it entirely but to make it less of a good idea for those inclined to try it).
Originally by: Hamfast 3)Industry ū The Creators of Eve a.Do you regularly build anything? b.Do you regularly mine? c.What do you think could be done to improve industry in Eve? d.You have been asked to help with new ships for industrial characters, describe a few ideasą
Yes and yes. Industry is one of the great aspects of EVE; whilst all items were once built by NPC corps we are slowly moving to a player-built universe with the opportunities for industrial warfare every bit as good as the pewpew. Apart from a smaller, faster Rorqual - something to fly alongside a Skiff in dangerous areas - it is difficult to determine what is actually needed. Installing one's own plant (labs, etc) on an NPC station would be nice as otherwise you are looking at empire POS issues, but otherwise there is a reasonable range of ships available at the moment, not all of which are used as possibly intended! One of my alts flies a fully expanded Iteron V but could do with a bit more cargo space that doesn't require the massive jump to a freighter, so that is one possibility.
Thanks for the questions!

I've tried to cover my initial thoughts on what could be done asap to improve the experiences of pilots on my website at http://InannaZuni.com/ and its associated blog. There is plenty of 'low-hanging fruit' that could simplify a podpilots life and make ships more responsive. It starts with our HUD - the user interface is still very effective but as we've got increasingly busier with multiple channels, different overviews, (bouncing around windows) then actually seeing the action outside our ship has become more and more difficult and we are more flying by instruments than with our eyes. I think we are all aware of the major issues like lag, partial logging (corp hangars) and the default actions that we don't want (double-click a pilot name, for instance) where we'd prefer something selectable.
yes, there are some issues which will predominantly affect pilots in 0.0, or in capital / POS warfare, or hisec mining, etc. I want to see those issues which affect *all* pilots taken care of with the highest priority though - the most bang for the buck, as it were.

I will be addressing each candidate with the same questions ableit it might be a little late:
1) What do you think about more PVE scenarios, ones which would incorporate a large section of the EVE universe. Perhaps like a war between the races, or a war against a different race. Perhaps it would be a war against a pirate corp where PCs are encouraged to come help out the fleet. This could allow players to get more of a feel in some way fleet battles as well.
2) Along the lines of the above statement, how would you feel if the EVE universe had a vote in how their races interacted. Perhaps in order to get users more involved the races would submit 'Resolutions' to the players on actions they take. Perhaps the Gallente Federation gives some offense to the Caldari State or vice versa, maybe the resolution to those that are members of the Caldari State would say something like, "Should the Caldari State retaliate with military force against system XYZ for said offense?". Then there could be some possible PVE event taken in that sector of space. The Caldari State can then give real-time missions to players who wish to participate be it material gathering, intelligence, combat missions, mercenary action, etc.
3) How would you feel about opening Invention to invent new items that they design, potentially completely new items to the EVE universe? I believe giving the players the ability to customize items and perhaps make something completely new would greatly increase their involvement and enjoyment of the game. This would introduce even more learning skills for those that want to do industry and allow them to decide how and what will improve ships. Perhaps even allowing researchers to invent totally new kinds of ships.
4) How would you feel if the EVE universe could start impacting in some way on 0.0? Pirates and alliances in 0.0 often have influence in Empire space and low sec, what if the tables were reversed? What if players in empire space could pass resolutions for the races to clear out temporarily portions of low sec, perhaps even attempt to clear out portions of 0.0? The idea here would not to attact home systems, but perhaps fringe systems. This could help introduce empire players to 0.0 and pvp, it could also help keep in check mega alliances and factions. In addition this could allow empire players the 'occasional' chance to get some resources in 0.0 if they aid the initiative.
5) Finally how would you feel about creating and opening events to all players and not just the wealthiest alliances in EVE? There could be many talented pilots out there that want to compete for fame and glory, but may not have the ISK to do it. Perhaps if EVE provided weekly/monthly tournaments around the EVE universe and then allowed the winners to compete in a bracket system up to a finale, it would encourage even more interaction. Instead of just giving some enormous prize once/twice a year, they could give smaller prizes for each stage of the contest leading up to the ultimage prize. These could also include side contests like 1v1/2v2/etc frigate/cruiser fights. Find out who the best 1v1 player is, or who the best tandem team is, etc. |

First, it is clearly not legal as the use of macros is contrary to the TOS that all players agree to in joining EVE. As regards stopping it then yes, of course it should be stopped, primarily because it affects the pricing and availability of minerals within the EVE universe, but also because the volume macro miners are selling the ISK they raise OOG for 'real' money, making it possible for unfair advantages to be gained by unscrupulous pilots.
I have commented further on this topic elsewhere on the forums at http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=763524&page=1#26

I commented a bit about this upthread and yes, I would like to see a greater involvement between podpilots and the news stories we read about.

I doubt the present Amarr leadership would endorse the idea of their pilots and traders having a say in anything, let alone voting(!) but yes, the RP element of EVE - the regular news updates of what is happening throughout the universe, who did what to whom - are what makes this 'game' way more interesting than something you grind out the levels of in the privacy of your clan. White Wolf have joined CCP and we are forecast to get / increase the level of factional 'involvement' and, mostly, I see that as a good thing™ so long as new arrivals in pod can learn their way around a ship before being exposed to it.

I commented a bit about this upthread and whilst I think it could be a great idea in principle it is probably unworkable in practice. In order to make EVE work all pilots have to play by the same rules, and within the limits set by their skill points and books read. Having a 'free for all' in the creation and development of new items, skills and ships would be a recipe for someone to go for a "god ship" with T999 kit on board and pewpew everything in sight; it just couldn't work. But making suggestions for new and improved kit on the EVE forums is still a useful and great idea.

0.0 is lawless; no matter what anyone in Empire space might proclaim such decisions will have no affect there. I believe that most pilots find their way into 0.0 when flying alongside their corp and alliance colleagues but non-aligned pilots could do with assistance, certainly, and CCP-instigated multi-pilot missions might be a way to go about this.

Yes. At the moment there are player-organised events around racing, 1 on 1, etc. and this is probably the way to go for the most part. The half-yearly team-v-team event isn't only for the wealthiest alliances (even if it seems that way sometimes) but is determined by who gets their details in first, resulting in many teams not getting into the fight. Either the competition needs to have a further level(s) or alternate methods of selecting which teams get in need to be found. Someone needs to pay for the prizes though ;-P
Thanks for the questions!

You have my vote, but I have a couple of questions.
Will you be doing anything to enhance the game for the Carebears? examples would be the introduction of more professions and improvements for empire space, such as Tourism (new ship classes, new agents and missions), improvements for Traders (perhaps a lvl 5 Transport ship that can carry a packaged BS)...
Also, how about something to help the small industrialist in empire space produce tech II items and copy BPs? a Single Player Owned Structure with slots that can take Lab modules (expensive, huge time penalty compared to main labs - x20?, only 1 function per module) and cloaking devices; some cargo space (20K m3) and ship space / dockability (1 ship plus shuttle in shuttle bay), no Ambulation - I would expect that these would only be able to be anchored in Empire space with limits to how many could be placed in a system (planning permission? agency where you are given a bookmark perhaps?) and only be able to be scanned for when there is a ship (non-shuttle) is docked. I'd suggest a "Key" item (copyable in Copy Lab slots) that would allow access to the SPOS when carried in your cargo hold. I realise that this might swamp the servers, but the Junk-In-Space initiative might take care of that. also, supply and demand would be a factor, and planning permission would take care of possible overcrowding issues and force people into less populated systems. It would even allow for a new profession, that of SPOS construction / Sales
Just some thoughts (they exist elsewhere in Forums) that a fair number of people would like to see.
Good Luck in the elections.

Sadly, the CSM itself cannot make changes, what it can do though is help direct attention to idea and prioritise some of them with CCP. I engage in many 'carebear' activities (though don't like the name!) and agree that with so many tourists on missions there really ought to be a place for them in other activities. Expanding the range of missions (as was done not that long ago too) is, to my mind, always good as it gives a wider range of activities (and RP too). The need for a trading ship between a fully expanded / rigged Iteron V and a freighter is very clear (and I've commented on it in the past too); the present gap in capacity is just way too large.

There is a great deal of merit in this, though a POS run by a single pilot would present such an easy target that it would never be safe. I rather like the idea of being able to rent some space on an NPC base though which you could fit out to suit yourself.
Originally by: Navarre Fuego Just some thoughts (they exist elsewhere in Forums) that a fair number of people would like to see. Good Luck in the elections.
I regularly read through the suggestions threads; my general position is that I'm less interested in changes which only affect a small percentage of pilots (eg. ship love), than in ideas which would benefit the vast majority (especially UI issues). Very many pilots (and the alts of those who live in 0.0) do the 'carebear thing', as well as new EVE pilots, and making this a place to stay is to the benefit of all.

.. a POS run by a single pilot would present such an easy target that it would never be safe. I rather like the idea of being able to rent some space on an NPC base though which you could fit out to suit yourself.
I was hoping to be able to fit a cloaking device that would deactivate in the presence of the key

Very many pilots (and the alts of those who live in 0.0) do the 'carebear thing', as well as new EVE pilots, and making this a place to stay is to the benefit of all.
The other 0.0 pilots who go on about pvp being "the real game" would do well to remember that, I think. It will be good to have a player's voice in the future of this teriffic game, I really hope it's you.
