Deborah Tannen argues that male and female communication is fundamentally gendered, as though the two belonged to two different cultures. Does this make sense to you or is it in the attempt to objectively speak about the difference between men and women itself a sort of sexist dichotomy of active and passive? Can the two sexes genuinely communicate? ___ Eve Players are not very smart. Support Killmail Overhaul

At college I did a course (unit) in this area and yes, of course there are some differences which *apparently* apply; what sex / gender / race / age / sexuality you are is not the 'fundamental' thing that defines who you are or how you will behave in a given situation, but it is probably a 'guideline', a 'probability' if you will. If one accepts that the standpoints of *any* two people will differ in many aspects, then whether they are 'male' or 'female' etc. doesn't present a dichotomy per se but an opportunity.
As regards 'active and passive' which were you assigning to which gender? Both apply to both, as armed forces have discovered!

I like the idea of an independent voice from Empire to counteract all the "big-boys" from the 0.0 mega-alliances.
Let's hope there's enough support here to offset some of the block-voting that'll obviously happen.

Thank you too! Block voting in EVE is, I suppose, like the unions, locals, group-based voting in 'real' life and something to be expected. As the big alliances can't actually place a 'block vote' on behalf of their pilots though then every vote placed by a pilot is their own, indeed it can't actually be checked by their corp or alliance (or themselves!) so whilst different factions may want particular candidates elected it is up to each individual pilot who does get in.

Thanks, er, boss ;-) (G0rF is the CEO of my corp)

Thank you! There are two sides to every story in EVE and I've tried to express in this thread and elsewhere where I see the issues at present and some options for the future, but how the CSM actually works and moves things on will depend not just on those selected to serve but also on all pilots being free to express their own views without being stamped on. I intend in EVE and the CSM to be as I am 'IRL'; free from permanently-fixed opinions; open to the thoughts and ideas of others; and fair to all sides in an argument, supporting all sides to ensure a full discussion on a topic.
To everyone who has supported me over the psat 14 days, many thanks, and here's to a great result being announced on Wednesday ;-P

You got my vote!
1. You are actually a woman and the council should have at least one! 2. On a more personal note, we share the same first name, what other good reason do I need? 3. I read all your information and it sounded good to me!

rofl. Not one of my best, I'll grant you, and my teeth don't move independently like that (surprise!) but yes, it is me. Not sure how my mum will feel having her picture on here but given she used to be a teacher who slapped down annoying little boys and put them in their place I'm sure she could handle the swarm too.

True, though I don't eat them myself (and I've no idea who that pic is of). I do like platypuses (platypi?) though ... preferably on toast with a nice green salad.

I am wondering if your stance on pirating is heavy handed, and do you have a hunger to learn at the CSM where you can pick up new things to bite your teeth into?

Well CCP insisted in making us reveal our rl identities so I suppose we have to accept this sort of thing sadly
It is tradition to mock people who hold 'office', so I suppose we are going to have to live with it!

I've no idea where you get the idea I'm 'heavy handed' on pirating from; it is a game mechanic like every other 'profession' in EVE and whilst I might not like being on the receiving end of it I certainly don't see a reason to stop it (indeed one *couldn't* stop it even if someone wanted to, just like in the China seas or off East Africa here on Earth!)
Food is good though (and now I'm off to get some ... ttfn)

If posting images directly on the forums is not allowed why was the facility to do so deliberately added recently?

I would like to know Inanna's position on posting images on the eve-o forums, and what she may or may not plan to do as a CSM to preserve our newfound ability to share screenshots, photos from get togethers with fellow capsuleers, and even occasional real-life out-of-pod experience photographs such as the one that waterfowl has shared with us. Who is that crazy looking hobo on the left anyways waterfowl?

Well, as they say, "far be it from me to go against the powers that be but ..." ;-P
As it happens I thought the pic of me and my mum after my graduation was quite funny (and so did she when I told her) and, sadly it has now been removed because I've come up to visit her and was going to show it to her and now can't.
As regards the posting off images *not of ingame* to the forums, clearly there has to be some moderation, either pre- or post- as it could (would!) quite quickly descend rapidly to pictures of helicopter penii attacking Gary Kasparov etc (watch it on youtube - it is quite funny). Whilst such pictures might be amusing to some it wouldn't be to others and would very probably cause CCP problems and that would be very not good. Links should be fine though (so long as no rickrolling. rickrolling is bad 'mkay?)
And yes, as Hardin and others have pointed out, standing for the CSM meant disclosing our full names and, by and large, this sort of behaviour was to be expected so that it arrived so quickly isn't a surprise.
"photos from get togethers with fellow capsuleers" is something I think would be great to see (see! we are normal people not just geeks who sit on a computer 24 hours a day in the cellar!) both by other pilots and for people outside EVE. But CCP has spoken and this is their playground ;-P
