Simple GSC mechanics:
if you are popped while hauling GSCs, 50/50 chance each GSC will drop or will be destroyed, contents included
- Passwords on a secure container always affect it, anchored or not. If a secure container has a password and it is dropped into space, it is not anchored and can be scooped into a cargo hold, though it cannot be accessed without the password. This is easily remedied by going to a station and repackaging it (which clears the password)
- The only way a secure container can become anchored is if you actively anchor it. Once that happens (if a password is set) the only way to clear it is to blow it up or unanchor it. It cannot be scooped
- Fly a tanked setup with at least one warp core stabilizer and an inertial stabilizer so you can warp out faster if someone starts targeting you[/8}
[*]If you carry something very valuable, use a covops to haul it

Only once they have been properly anchored. Until then, you'd best consider them normal containers.
If a container is unanchored in space and passworded, it's still more secure than a jetcan. The only way to access the contents would be to scoop the can into your cargo hold and repackage it at a station. This is difficult to do as GSCs are quite large and not everyone shooting you will be able to fit it.
Edit - though yes, best practice is to assume you have no security and use secure containers merely to expand your cargo and better sort cargo contents. |

Well, if you're running through empire with 5 billion isk of high end minerals or something, never use anything short of a freighter. a regular industrial will be faster, but a freighter is substantially harder to pop.
Edit - I was mainly reffering to moving skillbooks or blue prints around. |

Just using that as an example. The General rule of thumb I use is 2b. |
