Some unknown individual is extorting me through the following mail:
Quote:
2008.05.01 14:03 Well, well, This is something which wasn't in the GH-SC file I offered you but interesting none the less.Ank is using her alt to post support in the jita park section.I know this to be Ank because she biomassed Valeris 2 nights ago and installed Hotep as CEO.I have both in my Addy book. We are playing a new game now-It's called extortion! Send this character 1 billion Isk within 24 hours or I sell this info to GH-SC and Doonaa and her Troll friends .I'm sure they would love ruin your big day and waste all the time you spent on your video. Not to mention what the rest of the forum users would think or the other CSM candidates. 24 hours before I sell it and eat popcorn as I watch your thread torpedoed, erupt into chaos.,and your chance of election drop. So 1 billion or I pass this info on to GHSC,Doonaa and the trolls, any merc corps who may be interested in knowing your secret identity. You have my word this will not happen if I recieve the Isk
24 hours Ladies and Gents
Yeah, Hotep Shakkara is my alt and here are the things I posted with it: http://eve-search.com/search/author/hotep%20shakkara
I recycled Valeris because I needed to take the "Eva Jobse" name in order to avoid scammers abusing it.
Boo hoo, I posted once in my own thread. I'm such bad person now. ---

As you will notice, all other candidates have one thread, prefixed with [CSM Candidate], where we post all relevant information.
Why don't you do that? That is what CCP told us to do, in order to keep the forums clean. Let's not ruin it with posting all these funny evemails in separate thread.
I mean, I don't go and post all that threats I get. Hell, i even get blackmailed, but I don't post them.

I'm sorry, but CCP told us nothing of the sort.
They said "At this time we ask that all posts regarding the CSM and campaigning are kept in this forum channel."
and they said we would get one thread linked to from the stickied one. Not that we may only post one thread. To avoid the thread being cluttered with off-topic content, I post this seperate one. *shrugs* ---

Well extortion is very lame ass and you have done the right thing not giving in to it
But were you in your right mind when you decided to create an alt to big yourself up?
I looked at Hoteps posting record.
1) I am going to vote for Ankh 2) I am going to use my alt to make Goumindong look bad without implicating my main 3) Neutral 4) Ankh's video is great
Particularly ironic when you raise the issue of trust and 'scammers' in your video.
Obviously, this is EVE so we have to expect this sort of behaviour but it really doesn't look that good from a candidate for CSM
Of course maybe this is all just a stunt to generate more publicity...

So basically you lecture other people for using alts to ask your integrity instead of their mains. And then you go make yourself an alt and post support for your own campaign? (twice btw! count again) Class act!
And no you don't look like a bad person now. More like a hypocrite tbh.

To be completely honest, it was because of frustration because my supporters were slow to reply to the thread and because I was worried that the opposing troll party would start spamming during the first few comments.
As you might have noticed, a lot of my threads get spammed by Doonoo and her gang of NPC corp troll alts. I posted a positive comment in an attempt to thwart her. ---

TBH I really don't think you have answered Serenity's question - particularly this one:
Quote: A) How do you justify your behaviour as acceptable on the forums for a CSM election, when your video states credentials as "a community moderator for a large nation states"?
Just because you are being criticised (or because you real supporters aren't fast enough to give your video kudos) is not a reason to create an alt to give people the impression that you have more support than you actually do (or even hide behind it to attack other candidates).
Certainly Guomindong is not part of this anti-Ankh conspiracy so why you chose to use your alt to have a dig at him is very questionable.
Of course this is EVE and we have to expect some people to play dirty to get elected but as has already been pointed out you really shouldn't have made TRUST such an important plank of your video because now you have succeeded in making yourself look very foolish.
As Serenity pointed out - did you really learn such tactics from your time as a 'community manager'? If you did then that community must certainly have been very interesting! ----- Alliance Creation/Corp Expansion Services

No Hardin, I learned it from the person above you.
As for trust, I could have buried this little slip up and most likely have gotten away with it. Recycle the char, or just deny it belonging to me, as there wasn't that much to tie me to it, and any accusations would probably just come from Doonoo, who doesn't have any credibility in the first place. It'd probably have been the 'smartest' thing to do.
However, if I did that, I would have been lying if someone asked about it. And if there's one thing I do not do, it's lying. That's why I did not bury it and admitted it instead.
And no, me having been an Administrator of a Nationstates forum has nothing to do with it. I can say though, that I did undertake a lot more action towards trolls like Doonoo than CCP is doing on these forums, which is regrettable.
The question is though, who is Doonoo and her gang of trolls working for?

Well this is certainly an interesting, if not unexpected, development which probably tells us more about voting / internet anonymity than anything else.
I think the question that many voters will now be asking is wether Anke' has the resilience to be a CSM member if resorting to such policies is a result of targeted trolling by other players.
This is a subject I brought up some time ago regarding the vulnerability of CSM candidates to external pressure as a result of campaigning off the back of their Avatar names and the disturbing link to 'in game' personas and the real life player behind them.

I suppose this is true to a degree. On the other hand, they can also see a positive side of me: that when put in a difficult situation, I'll choose honesty and integrity instead of using lies and other tactics to get away with it, which I easily could have done by recycling the character, plain denial, paying the transfer fee to get the char to another account, etc, etc.
It also shows that I will not be blackmailed and that my decissions will be those that are good for the game, and I will not lose that vision even if my ego suffers a dent because of it.

To be honest, maybe we should be asking why so many people are using alts to troll anything Ankh posts? I don't see the problem in posting with an alt to keep support up in a thread when other CSM candidates (I certainly have suspicions about who but this isn't the place) use alts for trolling other candidates. --------------------------------------------------------------- Seriously, we need some kind of separation between the post and signature. Definately interesting issues, yes.
Perhaps, although when faced with a difficult situation (heavy trolling) you chose to pre-empt this problem by using an alternate character with the intention of misleading the general public.
You've gone someway to mitigating this by coming out openly to say you had been placed in a position of extortion - sadly there's now no way of telling if you would have ever revealed your alt had the extortion not been applied.
I appreciate that this CSM process is not an easy one for any of the candidates and that the more 'extreme' their views are the harder it gets. Your views are clearly at odds with a certain portion of the community - although this may not be a bad thing as you may add a alternative view to CCP; perhaps even a minority view.
Wether you will be able to overcome the question that now overhangs your integrity will ulitmately be up to the voters to decide.

But if it is the case, they don't deserve a position on CSM.

I'm going to give you one piece of advise Ank and you can take it or not. I enjoyed your video, you seemed a very pleasant person when we chatted on vent the other night with the other candidates who went to Revan's event also. But what you need to learn is how to ignore "trolling". You aren't obligated to respond to each and every post and you can simply ignore people if you consider their whole game plan is to wind you up and derail your campaign message.
Stick to your issues, speak your piece, be who you are. Don't play the game that trolls want you to play and don't get drawn into petty dog-fighting. I think its much more important in this CSM election to remain positive and friendly and just demonstrate your own personal credentials than to attack others and get drawn into flamewars. As Candidates we are going to have to work with each other if we get elected. Lets make an effort to keep the discussion sensible and remain focused on the real issues facing Eve today.

Why all of a sudden posting with alts have become horrifically wrong? Don't you all remember you have done that in the past at any given point you needed anonymousness?
Like Jesus once said: "Let the person who has never broken God's Law throw the first stone at her."
Dealing with trolling alts from other candidates isn't an easy task. If you expect anyone not to use an alt to protect themselves from retaliation, please rethink your expectations about other people.

I tried that, but then they bring out yet another troll alt (they usually come with 3-5 at once), and post things such as "see, Ankh is not replying to legitimate player questions, she's dodging the issues, and will make a bad CSM because she ignores the people, she'll be a great politician". So far I haven't found out how to deal with them if they play that card.
I absolutely agree with your point in principle, though.

Edited by: Z0D on 01/05/2008 18:19:04 There is no simple ways to deal with this but to what extent would be considered an alt.... you are allowed to have 2 other chars on with the one training skills which u can log and use when u play the game, its in the game mechanics, does an alt stop being an alt when other char speaking is on a different account, or simply when person using is a different physical person.... a lot of people i know including me will use alts or other totally different characters to post on forums for different reasons, being annonymous is most of the time the reason for this behavior for me and for others
Z0D
PS: I am an alt on the account i am to other chars on that account... but am a different char compared to other chars and alts i have on other accounts, each have differ ent training and are meant for different purposes, no one here is going to tell me they have never used other chars to express their views, boost their own auctions etc... get on with it and lets focus on the important things here

Honestly, this won't affect my vote - I'm still considering Ankh as the candidate who will receive my vote.
The CSM candidates are human like everyone else, and I'm doubtful that many candidates haven't use this or similar tactics during this campaign or in EVE at some point. I probably have probably done something similar in my career in EVE. However, this does not mean that I think it was the right thing to do or that I'm willing to completely ignore the fact that it happened.
To be honest Ankhesentapemkah, you screwed up. First by using alts to support you, and second for getting caught.
However, we're all human and I'm willing to overlook this incident and pay attention to the issues, which are really what the campaign should be about anyway.

I feel that Ankhesentapemkah has (mostly) conducted herself well under the constant attack of trolls. This is one of the main reasons that she will most likely get my vote and i know that im not alone in that.
I personaly think that for other CSM candidates to turn a blind eye to the kind of treatment that Ankhesentapemkah has gotten so far in this race is probably not a good idea. How long till the trolls turn on them and destroy any chance of they have of having an intellegent disscusion on their views and policys. It says alot about those candidates that they refuse to see the attacks for what they are.
And lets not forget. The people who have the most to gain by destroying Ankhesentapemkahs chances at this election are the other candidates. I garentee you that some of the trolls hounding her are infact other candidates alts. A fact not lost on voters prone to tinfoil hattery as most eve players are.
I think Ankhesentaprmkah has done the right thing here. Addmitted what she did and come clean.
I think other CSM candidates could probly afford do the same.

I doubt that many of the other candidates are behind the trolling. They seem - the ones I've seen and spoken to - to be fairly reasonable and friendly people even if they disagree with someone.
Most likely they're alts of pirates who, in addition to being less sympathetic than the average EVE player, might have something to lose if she is in a position of power. ---------------- Tarminic - 35 Million SP in Forum Warfare Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.81 (Updated 4/8) |

Well, that's an interesting theory there. I would be rather hard to prove unless they do a mishap. I have had the misfortune to come across RL political campaigns. Specially in these US 2008 elections. To be honest with you, I do agree with you about politician who approaches you with sweet-talk and extra uncalled-for attention, it is an indication of faking and most likely that person is not worth your vote. I'm like candidates that tell you things just the way they are, without brown-nosing.
Ank might be bashed constantly for being too honest about what she thinks. But maybe if the world had more politicians like her, our tax money (or our vote for that matter) wouldn't be such a waste. ---------------

Sorry, but it took extortion to make you see the error of your ways. This is one of the reasons this whole farce will probably fail as it is to easy to manipulate.
I own a T2 BPO and Capital alt, therefor all of my views will be pro-Capital Alt/T2 BPO orientated. Please pick one of the following settings for your response. []hate me []troll me []smack me |

Edited by: Wu Jiun on 02/05/2008 00:50:19 yeah tarminic pirates are all unsympathetic, miserable beings and have no friends. they also never get girlfriends and inhibit the basements of their parents - this is a well known fact.
as for pirates losing something with an overhaul of the bounty system. a working bounty system could be one of the greatest wins for piracy since some time and i know many pirates who think the same way.
concerning the alt trolling while i do not condone the obvious "washing of dirty laundry" it appears that statements like above (obviously a gross exaggeration here but you get the idea) do not help the situation. if people get or feel insulted because of how they play the game that sets the tune for the rest of the discussion.
so personally i hope ank can put her campaign forward without people throwing mud at her around every corner. still with ad hominems (and i know its a matter of the past but that is part of her history and people don't forget easily) one cannot expect to be treated lightly by everyone in turn either.

I didn't mean that as an insult to pirates, honestly. I think that it's a valid assertion that pirates - in general - are less sympathetic to the issues affecting carebears than the average player.
Also, the trolls that attacked her seemed to use the same tone and methods common on the Crime and Punishment forum. ---------------- (Forgot to pay my sub, back in a few days! ) Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.81 (Updated 4/8) |

..yesterday i was mentioning to my wife, who ihas been playing this game too and know some of the candidates gun-to-gun, how civil this is going, i was admiring the candidates but also the voters who seem to invest maturity and seriousness (high level for a game) and there was so far no irrantional unfair bashing amongst the candidates.
Folks, lets keep it that way it went cool so far.. when this is over i want to know i am out or in ... but it was a clean fair race.
group hug, and back into the ring - i want a fair fight
