Originally by: Maud Dib Is it just me or are people taking the politics in EVE way too seriously? it seems like there is an great deal of anger over what is after all entertainment. It's almost as if the concept of sportsmanship just doesn't seem to apply here even though pvp is a competition.
I participate in a stick fighting variant where people get there ribs broken and other various injuries all the time and yet there is never the kind of anger that you see here in a game where you can't really be hurt at all.
Whats the deal? Am I the only one who thinks it gets way to childish? I posted this here because this seems to be the center for forum hate in EVE. I suspect this is because the hardcore players care more about the results of the politics than the casual players. Still can't we all try not to be such asses?
I love my enemies although I don't show it to them

"I think it's because of the anonymity. PS - I'M RIGHT HARD ME!"
It's definitely the anonymity though. That and the lengths people go to "win" games like these. You can't win an MMOG.
Huh,.. what do you mean I cant win, you serious ? ...
Damn...

Hmmm.. For many people the "politics" you speak of are part of the game. Eve is a unique MMOG in that most of its players don't roleplay. There are many players here that grab a beer and some chips and sit in front of Eve for some relaxation. There are still those who roleplay it, or take it as some other form of life. So the politics, the trashtalk, the flaming, ALL of it is just part of the game. 24 hours a day they live, breath, and think Eve.

Originally by: Miso Edited by: Miso on 27/04/2004 14:59:51 I think there is too much "you're ghey" "no you're gheyer" talk on these forums. Too much politics ruined the game for me so I extracted myself from it and now I'm having fun again.
As for sportsmanship - its all down to anonymity - like car drivers. Car drivers will swear and curse at people from the safety of their car, but how many behave like that on a pavement or sidewalk? The impersonal nature of this game makes it very easy to behave like a nob-end. I'd like to see half the people that send me abuse have the guts to repeat it to my face
Most people who whine all the time about content in Eve don't seem to realize that they are part of Eve and can make it happen. Same goes for the people who take it too serious. They must be the ones that get all wound up when you tell them their planetary vehicals are ugly rustbuckets.
You pay CCP to get annoyed? I only get annoyed when Tranquility is offline. ___________________________ Favorite bumpersticker of the month: My head hurts! |
