I love the music too; it really makes the game I feel.
Below the asteroids <-- favorite. EVE Theme 01 EVE Rock 03 <- good beat, and I love it 3 minutes in when it goes crazy like a James bond flick.
Those are my favorites, but other than that, the soundtrack to eve is one of the best, and most original I have heard in a long time. In this current world of rubber stamped songs, mass produced and packaged for the masses, it is nice to find an artist that still has the ability to produce works of great variety. Where every song has its own feel, and character, but still conveys the same theme, and overall imagery.
A high fidelity CD would be top on my list to purchase. Oh how my ears cry at the artifacting inflicted upon such wonderful music from a lossy codec such as was used to distribute within the eve client. Even as great as OGG is, it can still turn a song into little more than fingernails to a chalkboard, to a trained ear.

Very well put. =)
The only thing that puts me off about extracting all the music from the game is the lack of authenticity. At least with downloading off the site, there are full track names, and like nonsequitur has put it, you get to appreciate each individual piece with its own story, as well as the wider theme. yeah, no tags on the in-game music is a bit of a bumer but nevermind.
I would like to see a cd in the store (maybe some new material in it too ).
I know Jon's music is pretty unique, but can anyone advise of similar artists? My favourite song is probably theme of the universe, I love the whole slick, downbeat coolness to it. The only 'similar' songs ive really found are those on the Animatrix Soundtrack, some from the Kpax soundtrack and things like that. (DJ Shadow is pretty funky for that sort of thing too).
And when you listen to some of Jon's tracks, does anyone get that memory of when you first started playing eve, thinking 'this is the coolest game, ever'?

Minmatar004 > all.
Why some of this great music wasn't included in the ingame playlist, I'll never know. All of it is great work.
Are there any working titles for the different race tracks and the Eve Rocks tracks? I'd love to update my tags accordingly.

I so agree about the music making the game. I listen to Mr. Hallur's wonderful music all the time (I even have it on a CD for my discman ) myself. I think an album would be quite a good idea, especially if you threw in a couple of extra songs/a short interview or somesuch goodies in (but I'd buy it in any case, fanatic that I am ).

Sasha's - Air Drawn Dagger Album may be worth a listen. There is a lot of chilled out electronica in there.

My fave tune is "I saw your ship".
Very much looking forward to new music from Jon Hallur. Maybe new tracks could be bought on an expansion disc from CCP without affecting the game for those without the expansion disc.
Tracks with an atmospheric or classical theme are my particular favourites :)

FYI "I saw your ship" is an minor adaption of an Icelandic Folk song, can anyone guess which song (I can't remember if I've revealed that on the forums or not)
Like mentioned before the music is very tranquil and I use it for meditation.
