So, I think It all started with them attending http://www.nordicinnovation.net/_img/ci_syntese.pdf and realization of the potential in their core tech, establishment and others IP. Reason why they would attend it might be because of invitation, search for creative artists with putting their company name on it to be known. Or out of interest for expansion and understanding the business they are in. That document is from ôApril 2006ö.
Some tidbits: ôCulture is business - And we are talking big businessö - ôWorldwide the creative industries are growing faster than other economic sectors, thus reflecting the changes in todayÆs wealth-generating economies.ö - ôWith concerted Nordic effort and cooperation, the Nordic region has the capacity to become one of the worlds most dynamic and important regions for creative industries, but this chance only comes around once. We must act now, or accept defeat.ö - ôIPR are the goods of the new economy: Secondly, there is a need for an intensified focus on the area of intellectual property rights (IPR). This can be viewed as the raw material fueling the creative age. The commercial opportunities in this field must be realized.ö'
Another document: http://www.nordicinnovation.net/_img/04265_medical_imaging_and_computer_games_final_nice_report1.pdf with CCPs participation. Document dated ôMay 2006ö. With an interesting tidbit:
Computer and TV game industry o Sales in Sweden 2004 170 Million Ç o Annual increase (since 2003) 20 % o From above estimated World market 10 û 15 Billion Ç o Especially on line games 2003 1,9 Billion Ç o On line games 2009 (estimated) 10 billion Ç o Typical development cost for a game Yesterday 1 MÇ, today 4MÇ, tomorrow 10 mÇ
Seize that money? Mode. Initiative. Initiation. Initiate! With that they sought action and IP. Which resulted in: http://www.ccpgames.com/press/press_releases.asp?pressReleaseID=26 . 11 November 2006.
A MMO game requiring: Hardware, Developers, Licenses and Marketing is all in need of: MONEY. Investors? Possible. Loan? Possible. Subscribers? Hell yeah.
2 Months after the merger the NFS initiative was announced(11 Jan 2007): http://myeve.eve-online.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&bid=412 and http://myeve.eve-online.com/updates/indevelopment.asp and from it:
ôThe Need For Speed 2007 A year-long initiative to engineer further optimizations throughout the three arms of EVE û Content, Software, and Hardware û to ensure future scalability and performance. WeÆre shifting the focus towards improving current features rather than add new ones, optimizing and improving current content, and utilizing technology breakthroughs in software and hardware.ö
And one year later(22 Jan 2008): http://www.eve-online.com/pressreleases/default.asp?pressReleaseID=43 . Seems more like a one year plan/goal. |

Surely it can't not be because of the Need for Money? And its intention for getting more subscribers for their expansion? Thereby increasing cash flow to fund their new MMO and its requirements. By tweaking for the worse or better the content and reducing load on the server to increase its capability to handle more of it. As well as not introducing content that would increase the load that would restrict their ability to handle more subscribers. Even if they throw in hardware that would be able to handle it with the current number of subscribers. I can only wonder what was scrapped, tweaked or halted because of it. But I wonder what it would do to my enjoyment of the game. It also serves in the way that they recognize the issue and are doing something about it. But it seems to me that its more about the money, than providing content to further enhance the enjoyment of the game for us players. Like:
Originally by: CCP Lingorm 5) Look at the 'In development' and similar sections for stuff that has been hanging about for a while ... but the majors one of the top of my head. System wide asteroid belts. New Corp management Gui, updated trader tools etc etc.
Whats your take on it? Argument for and against it being more about the money at the cost of our pleasure and money? |

FFS, they are not running a charity.
OF COURSE NFS's objective is to increase revenue. F**king duh.
And the game is much less laggier than before, which is a good thing, if you aren't aware. |

Further Shock Headlines!
* Eve-Online forum poster hasn't got a clue. - "He just posted it", says shocked newbie. - "Meh", says seasoned veteran.

I think CCP are doing quite a good job overall. The state of these forums means they don't post and share their ideas as much as they used to unfortunately. I don't suppose they'll see any need to respond to someone asking them to run their company into the ground. |

Psst.. I'll let you in a secret. The new expansion.. you know what I heard? THE OBJECTIVE IS TO INCREASE CCP REVENUE. OMFG!!!!! HOW EBIL!!

*edited for more sarcasm
I think most saw it as adressing the latency issue in popultated systems and large fleet fights.
I'm trying to advocate for better consumer awareness and CCPs practices. Something bad in that?

Its intent is deviated from the customer interest and their reason. I think their business model and plan covered the bankrupcy part some time ago.

But i guess your reply is motivated with the underlying fear and your establishment within this community and reputation. Not that i don't have a analytical disability now, do i?
Originally by: Zeba If the op intended this to be a joke thread then sad to say it flew right over my head.
It's not a joke thread. I'm trying to raise the awareness of the tgreater intent behind their pushes. Like the NFS initiative surving a greater purpose for their expansion and their second MMO that they are working on by raising money thru more subscribers. By marketing. It's consequences are stated above. How the Ambulation Project is pushed forward to create a game engine for upcoming Singleplayer games and World of Darkness the second MMO. Most who pay for EVE:Online won't play WoD because of financial reasons, game genre, time and effort. That's why i am bringing this up. I can only hope that this will put more pressure on CCP thru customer/consumer power to make their money more worth than tweaking, halting, scrapping content that would make this game more enjoyable. |

Yeah, which I assume is why there are still hundreds (probably thousands) of macro miners/missioners/ratters. I guess they don't want to lose that income those many accounts generate. |

Ofc. But i think most see their "continuous" payments as a investment. And it would be the consumer/player interest that they are spent well. To improve the gameplay as well as bringing in new content to play with for their enjoyment. |

A MMO subscription is an entertainment expense, not an investment. To think otherwise would be to consider, say, the cost of a movie ticket or a monthly cable payment as an "investment". |

Eeehmmm… no? Why would it be an investment?
…the closest I can think of is that the subscription is a savings of sort. If I didn't spend my time in EVE, I'd spend it at cafTs, on going to the movies and such, all of which would cost a whole lot more per month than the subscription fee.
Paying for EVE saves me money |

There was no need to create a second thread for this subject when you had already posted this verbatim in your original thread.
We all read it there, the first time, so this thread is redundant. |
