5 Year Anniversary
5 years ago there where no lotteries in EVE.
Today theres lots and lots of them (too many some would say)
One lottery started it all.
And it was the only one for a very long time as well.
The last year or two the amount of lotteries have exploded though.
Most are one-off things, a few stay around for a few spins but disappear again.
The one lottery that started it all is however amazingly still around.
That one lottery is of course the BIG Lottery.
Today, almost to the date, the BIG Lottery can celebrate it's 5 year anniversary.
For 5 years non-stop it's been possible to buy a ticket in the BIG Lottery whenever you felt like.
I must admit I'm immensely proud of this milestone.
5 years is such an unbelievable long amount of time, it's still hard to grasp it's actually real.
But here we are.
Round #1 started on May 12th 2003, and we are now up to round #131.
52000+ individual purchases have been made (number of entries in the BIG Lottery DB)
Thats a BIG number...
Billions upon billions worth of prizes have been paid out.
Well in excess of 100B ISK (probably close to 150B ISK)
It's amazing.
Naturally we want to mark the occasion with some BIG prizes 
The list of prizes is not yet complete, as negotiations with a sponsor is still ongoing.
Unfortunatly it's not been possible to finalize the list in time for this post.
I'll update the prizelist once I have the info - So don't forget to check back - You might be in for a BIG surprise.
The BIG Lottery 5 year anniversary prize list
1: 10B ISK
2: 5B ISK
3: 1B ISK
4: Daredevil
5: Daredevil
As mentioned, more will be added later, once I have the info from a sponsor
Ticket prizes are as always 1000 ISK per ticket.
For the 5 year anniversary round we are raising the normal 10K ticket cap to 50K tickets (50M ISK total) per character.
Send your ISK to "BIG Games", and remember if you send more than the 50M ISK max allowed, the excess will be treated as a donation! (and be greatly appriciated )
The BIG Lottery 5 year anniversary round runs
from Monday, May 5th
to Sunday, May 18th
The drawing will be held
Monday, May 19th, 1800 EVE time (GMT)
in ingame channel "BIG Games"

How come on the receipts page, its only calculating 10,000,000 in tickets purchased and the rest of the funds sent showing up as a Donation ? I'm assuming this is just a glitch on the receipts page. |

I'd love to participate in the lottery however 18:00 GMT is extremely late for me as I have to work in the morning so how would this work for people who live in a totally different timezone and are unable to claim their prize? Does this mean their tickets will become forfeit if they aren't online to claim? If so then I know several people who can't participate due to timezone difference.

Also, considering the popularity of the BIG Lotto, and the fact that it is against the EULA to misrepresent oneself as another character, I might want to draw your attention to:
BIG Gamess & BIG GAMESTICKETS characters who are clearly trying to scam the unwary. Perhaps a petition and a warning or ban-stick is in order. Especially since the event is advertised by OFFICIAL CCP SOURCES like the "ISD News Network." and, furthermore, prizes are sponsored by CCP themselves, I think it deserves a GM attention.

Receipt page appears broken. I'm seeing multiple instances of 10m cap with the rest as donation or the ISk not registering at all among people I talk to, and myself.

is there a method of generating the winning number with no humen interface ? or its just the person who do this lottery take a number from his big hat and say its the winner.

The fix I made the other day insured that no more listing errors with regards to the receipt page would happen (at the time of the fix I thought it would fix the listing of previous entries as well... It didnt)
I've finally tracked it down.
And I must say, I need to have a talk to the programmer if the EVEAPI code I'm running - With a mallet...
The idiot had in fact hard coded the 10M cap into the part of the EVEAPI code handling the BIG Lottery entries... And not even as a variable...
/me goes to have a chat with himself and a mallet...
The issue should be fixed now though (code still needs to be redone though when I have time)
One outstanding issues is for people with 's in their name, like Selene D'Celeste.
Unfortunatly this gets saved in the DB as '' - ie. Selene D''Celeste, which means when you go to the receipt page (which pulls your ingame name) it tries to compare Selene D'Celeste to Selene D''Celeste, which ofc fails.
I've been a bit overzealous in my attempt at SQL injection protection it seems....

I've identified the problem... But I'm currently a bit hesitant in touching the code with the current run on the lottery.
The (my) EVEAPI code consists of many different independent "blocks", that do their thing independent of each (also timewise) - and also across a couple of servers, so messing with something like this is a bit tricky... As the point of the code I need to fix, risks bringing the whole thing down if not correct the first time...
So... Can't make any promise when I'll get it fixed...
One workaround, if you want to check if you purchase is registred, is to check the lottery list.
You'll need to have the excact timestamp and amount to find your entry on that list though - As names are not listed there, as it's a public list.

It is because of the apostrophe (') in your name. TornSoul is aware this is a problem, but will not change the code before the end of the round to avoid fiddling with things when such a high volume of transactions is going on.

There is generally an influx of prices nearer to draw time. I think last Anniversary it got up to Z. Could be wrong. Needless to say it is a long draw, but exciting to be there. TornSoul, just remember to get the channel limit removed in advance this time.

Anniversary rounds earn an excess that goes towards making up the difference in other rounds where BIG pays out more in guaranteed prizes than is covered by ticket purchases. And prizes are generally higher in the rounds following an Anniversary.
In the first Anniversary round, CCP supplied an Impoc and audited BIG Games' wallet as a result of the interest. I'm sure that'd be no different this round with them donating prizes again.
And, lol, only 100b? I don't get out of bed for anything less.

I didn't think that the lottery usually made a significant loss, and I also wasn't aware that the surplus from one round was ever carried over to another one, although naturally it makes sense to do so. Does that mean that over its entire lifetime, the lottery has made zero profit?

It's made a loss, as far as I know. TornSoul can confirm numbers. It's non-profit, all ticket purchases are eventually paid out as prize winnings. These Anniversary rounds go towards ensuring it's longevity.

the Big game ..from EVE player already send in 53 bil... and they going just pay off the 1-3 total 16 bil,,, the big game going to making 53-16=37 bil.. Big corp are rich for just doing this .. follow their rule the follow up isk player send should add to Rward pool.. first place should have the 50% of the pool isk , not just 10 bil.

TBH even if TS kept the difference to himself he would deserve it for running this thing for 5 years.
And as others said, the profit from anniversary rounds is used to fund the "normal" lottery rounds, where he usually makes a loss(as the payout is guaranteed, regardless from the number of tickets bought - which probably contributes to its popularity).

You sent it to the wrong character. I petitioned that character. The GMs removed that character and returned the ISK. Send it to the correct character. BIG Games.

I got the same problem then. :( I thought they were manually adding the tickets? Copy/paste from the receipt page -> quote: "That we have made a typing error transfering the ingame journal entries into the Lottery DB (no copy/pasting atm)"

That has changed now. TornSoul used to enter every entry manually. Now it runs off the API and saves him oodles of time.

Scamming alts are sadly unavoidable.
However, in this case it is easy enough to tell them apart. The real character must be a part of the correct corporation, and have been so for well over 4 and a half years now.
If that's opposed by a 3 day old noob corper, I'd say that just about everyone should be able to tell the difference.

Nothing really planned so far. I've still to get used to this huge amount of money. But what I can say is, that I borrowed our corp a lot of money last year from my personal wallet, for a project. This borrowed money now is a gift for the corp, to buy some new BPO. Another dream of me is the Wyvern mothership, but before getting one I should start to skill for it first.

This lottery's been running a long while, but since it made the in-game news yesterday with the big 5th anniversary, a new 1-day old char has been created by someone, named "BIG GAMESl" (note the "l" on the end)
Clearly created in order to fool people, it even has a duplicate of the bio information from the real "Big Games" character. I'm sure we're all careful to whom we give our ISK - but watch out just in case!
I wonder if this is some kind of EULA violation, maybe naming a char so as to deliberately cause confusion to defraud us of our ISK?
