After having all the problems in Eve and with other recent games, my ATI Radeon 9000 Pro has found it well-deserved place in my hardware junkyard.
I bought a Geforce FX 5600XT and couldn't be happier! Not only is the card about twice as fast as my ATI, but I finally don't suffer from baldness and had so far no Eve crashes. However, I did have to install Eve again to make it work. When I first logged on I had the baldness issue again, but the reinstall fixed it.

I'd probably do the same, but I bought my card (a 9600XT) specifically for EVE, and I haven't had it a week yet!

I can't comment on performance but reliability and stability NVidia wins hands down for me. ATI issue regular updates and, frankly, it's a bloody good job they do. NVidia don't issue updates as often and nor do they need to.

ATI dominates this market.
My ATI Radeon 9800 Pro work fine, as ATI always do.

I did the same. Bye bye Radeon 8500 and hello FX 5900XT. Guess what? Eve ran fine first go. Didn't have to reinstall or do anything.
So
1) Eve + ATI does not mix well
2) I do have a stable system to you doubters!!!
3) ATI and CCP need to work together as this is a showpiece game for both.

I will never get a new video card for one game. I have a 9800 pro and I have had no problems other than the hair. Other than that no graphic problems or anything else. Radeon 9000 is a value card.

Uh....you guys are blaming older ATI chipsets because you bought latest generation nVidia chipsets? Thats not exactly appes to apples. My 9800PRO runs EVE like a dream.

Beat me to it, lol. My 9700Pro runs eve just fine (3 instances in fact) with cat 3.8 and 4.4.
Slightly off topic but toms hardware did this review of the new Geforce 6800 Ultra. Looks good, I wonder how the new Ati card will compare?

May be but I still wouldn't be playing Eve if I was still trying to run the Radeon 8500. By the way I was already in the market for a new card before I resubscribed to Eve.

Ever since I can remember had EVE trouble with ne drivers for ATI cards, so either ATI made bad drivers or change things too fast with their monthly updates and CCP can not adapted fast enough.
Normally you should wait 2-3 weeks to install new drivers for ATI cards or wait until someone in this forum says, that they are working

Update: I returned the FX5600XT after rather disappointing benchmarks, barely beating my aging Radeon 9000 Pro. I got a Radeon 9800SE, softmodded to a Radeon 9800Pro and have yet to see any issues with EVE or any other game.

I started with a 9000 and could run eve with everthing bar AA and the only reason i upgraded my card was coz i changed my chip and now i have a 9600xt and have the settings up full no probs.
I have always had ati card. I had a geforce 460 mx when they first came out. took it back the next day.
The only pronlem i have with eve is that since the new patch was installed the dam thing won't work.
