Yea...Star wars galaxies...
Like what the hell happened? I can't find the game anywhere on retail stores, it's disappeared from Direct2drive, and can only be downloaded from the game's main website?
Or if anyone has other sources to share for download.
Now there's a good marketing strategy to pulling the plug, it's gentle.

The last retail SWG boxed game was the "Complete Colection" or somesuch if i recall and that was available last last.
The client is still available as a free download with a trial.
Also, they're having a free 30 days trial for any old vets atm.

SWG died. it is a game that has gone downhill because they changed the game mechanics to be horrible.
It all started with the CU(combat upgrade, AKA crappy upgrade), where the game mechanics were very greatly changed. Even though everyone on the Test centers yelled that this was horrible the GMs still followed through with it. the subscription amounts plummeted greatly as people left, but the game was still fun and people still played.
But the GMs wouldn't learn. They then a few months later put in another huge patch, called the NGE(New Game Enhancements, AKA Not Good Either) where they took away EVERYTHING that was remotely good in SWG. they took away the 34 intermix able professions and put in nine non-intermix able professions. They also made Jedi from an unlockable proffesion that you have to spend a long time grinding for but they were powerful. With the NGE They made jedi a starting profession and nerfed them down alot, screwing all of the people who worked for months (literally) for jedi.
After time the Devs just kept adding on stuff,stuff that wasn't very good. And never addressing some of the most well known bugs. SOE relied on word of mouth to advertise, and their game was so horrible that the word of mouth was negative. Noone was purchasing SWG so it wasn't profitable for stores. Anymore so it stopped being sold. Where SWG is at right now, I don't know, I quit 3 months ago, when I took up EVE. EVE was so much better that it became painful to try and play SWG.

I had Jump to lightspeed I think.
I lost all the cd's box set whilst moving places, 2-3 years ago I think...

Yea I read a bit about what happened, quite sad when trying to come against WoW competition at the time when they could have just left it unique as it was.
Mah, Eve is so different from Swg, I find it hard to compare, but if you were one of those guys who trained jedi pre-CU, I feel the pain.
By the way, can I have your stuff?

Yes, also jump to lightspeed was made free so that's available free as well.

I so hope that Bioware are secretly developing the next star Wars mmo, and I hope it'll be set around the same time as kotor (although now that they are owned by EA I shouldn't be hopefuly).
