I would actually agree to some extent, although it wouldnt be like you to try and make something relatively unexciting more dramatic.
In some aspects their leadership has been better than most.. but this is more in PR than anything (possibly logistics too). Getting RA on-side was much more important than you state.. it gave them credibility with other alliances.. that combined with game mechanics favouring zerk tactics, they sold an idea that ppl wanted to believe in.. that is was possible to beat BOB.. The question you raise is, was it them selling it? or the ppl buying it because they wanted to believe it..
Goons are an incompetent PVP group in terms of actual ship to ship combat.. without support particularly from RA, nearly any major alliance would walk over them.. Their success has been avoiding having to fight anyone alone sofar..
