Originally by: Multras Just admit you suck at the game and cancel all your accounts. May I suggest World Of Warcraft or hello kitty online, they are a lot better games for people who suck at life, and games.
If you have no reason to post here other than personal attacks and flames, please don't. I appreciate feedback presented in a civil, factual manner. Tell me what you don't like and why and how you feel it could be improved. This thread is about a valid gametactic very much like using so called nanogangs or stabbed out gangs, all of which I'm sure you are familiar with.
It could be improved by you not sucking at the game, but I dont see that ever happening at this rate.
Thanks to EVE Art Store for the sig. |

I'd be more inclined towards a Rokh myself, but I am biased since I love the ship. Reasons are the following though, it's big and expensive thus more tempting, it's not known for it's prowess in close range PvP and it's got a resistance bonus which helps keep it alive another thought would be a scorpian setup for tanking, once again not known for close range PvP ability and it has a reputation for being very easy to kill due to having ECM in it's mids instead of stuff to keep it alive.

Agreed.
And yes, the Rokh is an alternative, but it's also less known as a newbieship. Every single newbie in the game today sits in a Drake or a Raven - but the Drakes rarely carry the same amount of loot - and are way mroe cumbersome to *****.

to avoid the lameness, have your alts in gang, either docked or aligned at a SS and ready to warp on top of you. doing this gives you a bonus of being able to dictate range with your alts
and by the way, if you don't see just how lame this is, you're probably better off with a single-player game. oh, and now everyone that sees this thread will bait you for this tactic when they see you in local

I agree - consider the time when Dark Shikari started his 'How to Scam Billions effortlessly using lag' thread in GD. As a direct result, the incidence of scam attempts soared and CCP very quickly moved to change the game to make trade windows more secure.
The circumstances here are very similar; it's a dubious tactic, but it's been confirmed not to be an exploit, so there's nothing stopping people from posting about it, including explicit step-by-step guides that emphasise how easy and profitable this activity can be.
The only difference is that this is a part of the game whose precise details affect far more people, and there isn't a single obvious fix (that I'm aware of) which would prove any less controversial than the problem as it currently stands. Edited by: Cautet on 09/05/2008 12:04:49 The funniest thing here is that a 3 man logon trap is not realy that effective, as well as making you the most lame pilot in eve. Plus, being that it is lame you will have people adding your alts to their address book and you will find yourself the subject to logon traps of 20-30 pilots.
If you want a tactic that doesn't involve eploiting game mechanics but can for instance use 2-3 characters on the same account or 2-3 friends there are some really good ones that are much more effective than a small logon trap.
Have baitship and an arazu and rapier cloaked near (or arazu pilgrim or another combo) will workbetter.
Even better is no bait at all, but in 0.0 with cloaked dictor cloaked rapier and cloaked sniping BS.
Really though, give up on logonski's it's not pvp, and it's not even a good tactic. |

As a self proclaimed carebear, I have a quick question to those screaming about a logon trap as being "metagaming" and "lame" etc etc.
I'm just curious how, in these days of standings showing in local, cloaks fitted on so many ratting ships, alt scouts checking the way between systems, and even audible warning systems for hostiles entering local, HOW is someone supposed to ambush an opponent?
I'm not saying I agree with logon traps. But I believe the only real reason it happens, is because there's no other real way to spring an ambush on a paranoid opponent. I could be wrong, I mean my PvP skills are very limited. But I just can't see how you could do it. ----------------- Think of someone you consider of average intelligence... now realise this. Half the worlds population is dumber than that person. How does the world survive such stupidity? |

Short answer: complacency & patience are the keys factors.
(NB: with the program you mention, it will surely chime when someone logs on into local - so uncloaking would be better, no?)
If you want some good hints on ambushing, take a look at burn eden for example, or go to EOA (in geminate) and watch flashman services in action (if still there). Take a hauler filled with nice stuff, as there are no free lessons in eve.

What's a 'Templar'?
An Amarr fighter used by carriers.
CCP can't do anything about logon traps - same with logoffskis.
They've stated that they simply have no right to tell people when they can and can't log on/off. So, while it may be very meta, and it may even be an exploit, they just don't have any means of working against it. They could threaten bans, but really, how to enforce it?
