You're saying that there's been no relevant "space" content for 2 years, but I happen to remember a little thing called Incursions and from the looks of it, plenty of people are still utilizing this feature.
On top of that, this is more than a "rocket into space," this is a whole new level being added to the game and with the complexity involved I am not surprised that a year's worth of expansions is being used to fully introduce it.
So, for 7-8 years CCP has been developing on the "core" game and the second they bring in a new aspect, that they've been talking about since day 1, you're in an uproar over it?
Yes incursions was a little thing. Sleeper UI applied in known space. One little thing in 2 years.
And it wasn't a "second" that they have been devoting the lions share of their devs to dress up. It is going on years. Dress up is just not worth that. Sure 6 months and an incarna expansion. Great no problem.
But now we are going on 2 years and all the other parts of eve that ccp openly acknowledges needs fixing have been put on hold. Devs still aren't giving us any idea when they will start working on eve again other than to say they probably will never do a big expansion like apocrypha again. This is why anyone who can read gets the idea that eve is being abandoned.
And yeah if you spent *hours* dressing up your vanilla character you *were* playing barbie. Incarna has no combat. It is just *walking* in a station. No sane person thinks that will make for great gameplay.

You want to play poker in a spaceship game and pretend its your character. Is your character going to play poker different than you would as a person? You want to have your computer avatar on the same screen as someone elses computer avatar and pretend you are meeting in person. You want your computer avatar to take a drink at a virtual bar and pretend you are drinking.
Look lots of games offer this stuff but it is not awesome. Second life already fills this niche.

Have you ever even played an MMO outside of EVE Online? They call them Massively multiplayer online role-playing games for a reason. But then again, you are, technically playing a "role" no matter what you do. It's your ego that stops you from admitting to it, because you think it might be "nerdy" or "uncool" to pretend to be someone else, somewhere else. It's not my problem if you find social interaction boring. Not everyone here is a sociopath.
I played city of heroes a bit. You could meet others in rooms in that game. I also played a ww2 game.
I have no problem with roleplaying or pretend. I sort of pretend I am flying a spaceship and shooting other ships. Its fun. But I don't want to just pretend I am playing poker, or having a drink at a bar or talking to people. If I did I would play second life. But truthfully, I think that game sounds like crap. So I play eve instead.
And just because I do not especially look to a mmo for socializing doesn't mean I am not social.

The other thing is people socialize in eve while they are playing eve.
Its not like people socializing during a mining op are going to say "hey lets dock the barges and sit in a station and talk instead"
Its not like people socializing while doing a roam are going to say "hey lets dock our ships and talk while we look at our avatars drinking a beer instead."
Etc.
Accordingly its not like incarna is going to add very much at all from the social side of things.
