Lately, this is happening to me, in missions when trying to lock a target:
http://eve-files.com/dl/159322
I know that real distance and showed have diferences because latency, but this (and others ) are too big. 77 km in overview , 90 km for targeting..and the message say i'm not in range...
Also, recently if i get disconnected, when i'm back my ship haven't warped out and is dealing big aggro, i've been about to lose a ship, also a corpmate has telling me about the same +problem? or is a new feature?.
Cheers, Henode

Is this something that happens frequently to you, or only rarely? ____________________________ I break things.

Something similar is frequently happening to me: My raven range with torps is 28 Km. In missions I often cant hit anything +23-28 Km away. I cannot rely at my torp range at all. I know that is "only" couple of Km range, but precious skill time is spent for that. And not to mention navy ammo cost, time loss and other issues what could happen if 1-3 salvos goes to the wind instead of hitting target

Try to keep track of when it happens and what else is going on at the time.
Does it happen at the same time of day, same time of the hour, etc? Does it happen only during missions, or other times? Try to find any similarities between when it happens, this will help us figure out what the cuase is and help get a solution found. ____________________________ I break things.

I've experienced similar discrepancies in the distance shown in the overview and the distance the game believes. I saw it happen in missions. I don't recall if the locked-target distance value agreed with the overview, nor do I recall if the in-space distance value (shown next to the object) agreed, but I'm sure I checked both of those at the time. I'll make a note of it next time.
Minimizing the overview (TAB key) did *not* clear the problem.

I too have had these issues before. For me it only ever happened in deadspace missions and one possible extra clue is that it happened when I've played my usual "Chase me chase me!" game with the rats, running away and pummelling them from afar. The distance bug started once I'd wandered a certain distance from the warp in point for the mission, and cured itself when I started to head back closer again. Can't remember the distances involved but think it was possibly around 120 km away from original warp in point when problems started.
For me the problems were more pronounced e.g couldn't lock a target 5-10 km away with lock range of around 70km

It happened again. Mission: L4 "Cargo delivery" in waskisen, Yesterday 3 hrs before DT Ship: Golem, Weapons: siege launchers + faction torps My torps couldn't hit anything +25Km away, even my torp fly range is 28.35 Km No explosions, no damage to NPC's torp just vanishes -- EVE ambulation (Full Body Avatar) character creator 1.5 EVE offline game |

This.
Used to happen to me only in deadspace, and especially in the 2nd pocket of Unauthorized Military Presence (Angels, lvl4) numerous times. It also seemed to happen because I ran away from them to keep optimal, but after a while they stop following, so I turn around and go back after them. The false range stuff starts after this. --

Just to be sure, you are aware of that even though your max range is supposed to be 28.35km, when multiplying speed with flight time, you have to compensate for missile acceleration?
My torps are supposed to hit at 37km, but they only reach 33-34km, because the missile doesnŠt have max velocity when leaving the ship..

thats exactly the reply i got from ccp about the torp range - when the torps leave your ship they aren't doing max velocity, you lose a couple of km in accelleration.

I'm satisfied with this logical explanation. I wasn't aware of that because acceleration is not displayed within other missile stats. -- EVE ambulation (Full Body Avatar) character creator 2.0 EVE offline game |

also, your target is likely moving, which adds to the range your torps have to travel because they have to "chase" down the target.
if your target is doing 100m/s, and it takes your torp 10 seconds to hit, it had to travel an extra km.
This obvious is dependant on direction of travel of the target, and doesnt always apply.

I've actually had this happen to me a few times, And I also have a screenshot from a long time ago when it first happened.
www.mrtus.net/weird.jpg
in the top left client, you'll see the player ship is right next to the target, and right next to the drones.
In the bottom right client, you'll see that the player ship, and drones are a good distance apart from each other.
Hope that helps.

These desyncs happen a lot, when you are:
A: in a mission HUB B: fly a Battleship with short ranged weapons and AB. C: have to fly a lot around in the mission stage because the NPC want to fight and long range and keep moving away.
If you do this for half an hour, you might end up hopelessly desynct and rats that show up near your position are actually far away.

I've been seeing something very similar for the past several days. The distance in the 'Selected Item' window does not update. The most obvious occurrences are when I am traveling. I select a gate, warp to zero on that gate...and the 'Selected Item' window does not show the distance changing. I have to wait until I am within 2500m to again click the gate so the jump button becomes active. Otherwise, the 'Selected Item' window still shows me at whatever AU with the warp button active and the jump button inactive.
I can also replicate the issue by starting out several km from an object (not just a gate), selecting that object, and orbiting it. If I start at 20km from the object, the distance in the 'Selected Item' window stays at 20km. The distance in the 'Overview' window changes accurately. There are no other signs of lag or desync or whatever.
It does not happen all the time. I've noticed it while in a covert ops and an assault frig, but not in a BS...however, I don't know if that means anything or is just a coincidence that it has not yet happened for me in a larger ship than a frigate. |

This has happened in deadspace areas, I always attributed it to NPC Rat Ewar. I just keep at it and eventually it resolves itself.
Never considered it was a bug til now.

Edited by: Aegis Myrielle on 23/05/2008 03:21:39 This is happening to me consistently, with the mission "Pirate Invastion" (level 4). Enemy: Angel Cartel Agent: Bique Darelimes Agent Corp: Federal Intelligence Office Mission Location: Ignebaener system, Pecanoutte constellation, Essence region Problem Rat: Gist General (BS, 431,250 ISK bounty)
The rat cannot be locked - gives error that it is too far away, with the distance locked at however far away it was from me when I first warped in. Relogging didn't affect this, nor did warping out and back into the mission deadspace. I was able to finally lock this specific rat when I closed to within 7km, which is roughly equal to how far beyond my maximum targeting range this rat was when I first warped in. It did aggro fairly quickly, along with the rest of its group.
Edited to add: This has happened to me every time I've run this mission (which isn't very many times, to be honest, but it's consistent and exclusive to this one rat in this one mission).
