I only engage in pvp when it's forced upon me and so don't fly around loaded for bear so to speak. I managed to fly in on top of a pirate who scammed me but did not web me. I locked him and released my hammerhead II's and at same time started up mwd II to escape scram. Pirate was actually down to structure but I suddenly lost my target lock...I was up against an Amarr ship but forgot in the excitement to actually determine the ship type but I figure it was recon or similar due to size of square and use of 5 med drones.. Neway considering the distance at which I lost lock and could not reobtain I was able to warp at that point...I noted when this lock occurred that the red of the pirate ship and its drones became more muted... Considering the distance away when the lock broke I figure he was using either a multispectral jammer or a sensor dampener.. I only had a warp disruptor II and no sensor booster etc.
Can some1 confirm or correct my assessment? I figure if I had stayed close in I never would have lost the target lock.

Thanks for the info--I could not have been past 30km and have 70km target range with skills but the remote sensor booster sounds like the issue--guess I should have stayed close in. How about the red of the target and drones turning from bright red to a more muted red--does that indicate nething? I will also check the ov if I can remember

The two who responded with non-answers are also pirates and bad pirates at that. The best pirates have high security status not -9 and below

Edited by: notaway on 10/05/2008 08:21:51 LOL --I knew the last would create some noise--I was ratting and so obviously had no wcs's in place... I was in a bc that was well tanked but limited on pvp mods. Yes I could have stayed and to quote the pirate "u could have got me" but I suspected his LEEETLE friends were on the way and we all know pirates prefer to run in packs and gang up on one ship.. (Help bring the carrier--help help}
One other thing--story is true and I had only seen use of jammers in missions previously and could typically reacquire target after a few repeated tries but here I could not--and in missions the other ships did not change tone of red.. If I was into pvp I would have had a sensor booster II with appropriate script to counter what the pirate was using-- which I believe had to be the RSD with targeting script based on prior informative answers above.
PS--security status does have something to do with it. Good pirates can easily keep their status up whereas the ganking loser pirates can't even seem to rat well enough to do so.

Unfortunately, he was still alive and kicking when I warped. He was using drones but they were not even T2 and OV did not reflect same--also I got initial target lock with no problem when he was close in and he had his drones out well ahead of me (6km or so)and did not lose lock until well into use of the mwd.
On security status--ratting bs's in 0.0 results in very quick increases and u ppl with -9 etc cannot even enter high security whereas the good pirates who keep up their status, can go newhere... If I were a pirate I would have +5 all the time and I understand that running 0.0 missions can still result in status above 5 but it rises very slowly.
