Admittedly it's my most important issue, and that's kind of selfish. But the current UI adversely affects every single player no matter their play style or vocation. Yet I haven't seen anyone mention it despite the ~two year old eleven page thread in Features and Ideas Discussion I have about it. Also inconspicuously linked in my sig.
There's a 95% chance that the strongest UI fix supporter will get my two votes.

I asked Hellmar if we were gonna get a new UI, once the trinity engine was done. The answer was yes.
I'm 150% for a new UI.

I'm going to have to admit I haven't read your thread in features and ideas discussion (yet). I'll go and take a look this weekend and let you know what I think okay?

There was another thread on it. I don't think anyone can reasonably say that the U.I doesn't need updating desperately. I certainly think it does. Its better than its been, but it could be even more so.

Making the UI more intuitive and digestible is actually on my list of biggest issues to bring up at the CSM. The role of the CSM in this case would just be to give feedback on what major and fundamental flaws the UI has and how it affects the game overall. |

As I see it, the CSM will reflect the player community, but still have a strong feeling about the bigger picture. There seem to be some issues where most players agree, the UI being one. So that's what most CSM's should push for, in my opinion.
Secondly, it's a good thing if the CSM candidate has visions about the game etc, so ideas and tweaks can follow a logical path and put into context. ______________________________________________________ Running for CSM - read my presentation!

Edited by: Tusko Hopkins on 09/05/2008 20:25:01 Personally i couldnt point at anything specific on the UI i would want to change - apart from the obviously broken parts which need fixing, but that shouldnt stop you from voicing your concerns / wishes.
As a matter of fact im really curious what kind of changes you think the UI would need. Unless of course you were simply thinking about the pretty broken state of some UI elements - such as the overview - which i also believe should have been fixed a long time ago.
As much as i would love to, I can't promise you to change the way the UI works, it is simply not within the scope of what we will do. All i can promise is listening to your ideas / suggestions / requests, and support them in the council if they make sense to me.
edit.. Just to clarify: I do not thing the current UI is perfect, so if there is a viable alternative to push for, i'm all for it.

Make sure to bring these to the CSM once it gets formed. If you might forget, i will try to remember and re-post this link there myself.

I See you haven't added improvements to the scanner in your post. I was talking about this when discussing some local fixes a bit ago.
it would be really nice if when you opened your tactical view and scanner it would put a cone out for what your scan area is, just as it shows your module range and falloff.
Then it can color the brackets of items that are in range of your scanner and within the scan radius. So that you can more easily see what your scanner is pointing at and what is in range that way you don't have to fiddle around with overview settings and bracket settings to get an effective and fast scan using the directional scanner
ed: And of course, target calling via hot key, lord that is needed

I too support changing the UI. It is even an example on my issues page.
The current UI is slow, and not very intuitive.

Yes, this is an issue which I agree with.
I would *love* to enhance the customizability of the UI, especially in regards to key mapping. I finf the whole cntl and alt key thing far too cumbersome.
I also want to see the ability to expand the screen across multiple monitors, and potentially the ability to create daughter windows that can be placed on seperate monitors (such as chat, overview, etc).
But, as I keep saying, whilst I want to see these things happen, my personal feelings are irrelevant. If you want this raised, and the wider eve community supports it (which in this case I do believe there is evidence to support that) then it will get raised by the CSM.
Doesn't mean anything dramatic will happen, and as LaVista Vista mentioned above, there are plans already for some UI overhaul, so your wish may have already been granted.

It's been discussed before. Displaying the range in AU, not KM, scan cone in solar system view, etc. - Support fixing the UI|Suggest Jita fixes|Compact logs |

Edited by: Adelorae24 on 10/05/2008 23:57:05 This is needed very badly. I want to see hotkey customizability. I'd love to see a feature to map a key to "target nearest hostile". Also as an owner of multiple monitors I would love to see true multiple monitor support in Eve. Something like the normal display on the primary monitor, and tactical information/readouts on the secondary display.
There are so many games now that don't have the beauty or depth of Eve that have much more user friendly interfaces. Oh and the overview sucks...

I would strongly support UI changes that shift the emphasis of the game from the right-click menu to the keyboard. I have some pretty horrendous RSI in the right hand, so after a few hours of EVE the two little fingers on my right hand lose all sensation. :\

Is there ANYONE who would not agree on the current UI being "not quite good"?
a) Bugs, Bugs, Static placements and some Bugs b) Overview custom. "workflow" horrendeous c) No identification with the current piloted ship d) vital information spread all over the screen c) mouse movements are way too long (to pick targets and fire weapons, i.e.)
and so on...

Doubt it
It's long overdue for some loving.
And I mean the whole thing, not just pin-point fixes (although those are needed where things are down right broken)
Give some design guys free hands (while keeping with the EVE spirit) and have them re-do the whole thing. I honestly think something like this is needed, rather than keep fixing this and that. Too many band-aids aint excactly helping on the overall feel and usability of the UI.
Very much doubt it'll happen anytime soon though... I pretty much expect the CCP answer will be along the lines of "Yes we agree it needs some loving, but currently we don't have the manpower, as they are working on important issue 1 through 100..."
This is sadly the case with regards to most "major" re-vamps we'd all like to see done, in one area of the game or another.
Or maybe, just maybe... the CSM can make CCP change their priorities around?
One of the things I personally am looking forward to seeing the most - ie. to what degree the CSM will be able to influence CCP.

I definitely agree that the UI needs a pretty major overhaul. It's too busy as is.
The drone interface (playing a Gallente, I'm only too familiar with this) has improved, but there is still more that could be done for it. The targeting reticles could stand to be clearer, even without the pictures involved, since having 7+ targets would easily get in the way of the system info.
I like some of your ideas, and will definitely push for this to occur. The UI right now is usable, but it's far from good.

Maybe 10,000 votes every damn patch day and in-between will make them realize just how rabid some of us are getting over this "non-important" issue.
