I'm not really new, I actually was a beta tester, but I just have been away from the game a very long time ... but anyway, I keep seeing people mention "safespots" on these boards. What are they?

Safespots are areas that are not available on a map that a corp can use to go to that they know pirates or people trying to hit them won't know about.
We use them in 0.0 space for mining and storage... ____________________________________

in short: Its a spot in the middle of nowhere. Lose the bookmark and you will never ever find it again

When you warp "to nowhere" after a CTD could this be considered a safe spot?

Ah, OK ... but how do you travel to a safespot? I thought the only way to warp was to click on an actual target, like a space station, a planet or an asteroid belt. How do you warp to the middle of nowhere?

Edited by: Valan on 01/05/2004 08:28:22 Open people and places, select places. See the button at the bottom add bookmark? Press it when warping between two points. Preferably between two points far enough away from each other to give you time to press it.
You'll end up with a window with co-ordinates, name it, hit ok and you have a bookmark in the middle of nowhere. Warp to that bookmark and bask in the emptiness.

Although that is correct, I would take it to the next lvl...
As was said above warp from one place to another to create the BM, goto the BM and warp again to another place creating another BM. Disgaurd the first, and now your super safe. Its easyer to find you between 2 points then it is when you really are in the middle of nowhere, and you can track people down to there safespot using the directional scanner and a bit of time... but its much harder when you have made the safespot from another...

Easiest way to create a safe spot is to undock, log off, log on, stop your ship before it warps back, make bookmark, and voila your safe spot.

Anyone know CCP's stance on this? i.e. is it considered an exploit or not. I would assume not.

or you can double click in a direction where nothing is and keep on flying for some minutes... then you get the same. So it would be odd if people say this is a exploit or some kind.

As far as I know safespots are ok with CCP. I have never heard of anyone being warned about using them. Lets face it why would CCP consider it an exploit?

hm, imagine CCP removing all secure cans from safespots in 0.0 and removing all 'parked' ships as well...
I dont wanna be at the recieving end of that outcry from the players , hehe.
No, Safespots are ok.

How is this possible, given how huge space is in EVE?
I really wish EVE had a coordinates system, or something, that allowed us to warp to any point in space we wished. It would make me feel like I'm really the captain of my ship rather than at the mercy of objects in space and bookmarks.

you cannot use "warp to" to items which are player owned (cargo containers, ships, etc). Astroids and such however, can.

While they are definitely not an exploit (as in bannable offense) I am reasonably certain CCP does not like them. I seem to recall in one of the CSM chatlogs TomB remarking that safespots stunk in his view (I am paraphrasing but that was the gist of it). As such I think CCP plans on making safespots not so safe in the future and at least one way that will certainly do it will be the Black Ops Elite Frigs. Word on those is they will be able to sniff out safespots.

Well using your directional scanner you can narrow down the location of a ship. you can see that that ship is between 2 points like planets or gates it is posible to warp and bookmark your wat to their safespot. The best way is to use 3 ships and a trianguation style attack. where in a gang, each person would hone in on where the target is and slowly close the hole by warping to one friend and making a bm, and so on. Although this way is very hard, it is good for a supprise attack unfortunatly when they are in the safespot created form the bookmark its much harder...

Nice idea! The time spent is not worth it though. If I'm in a safe spot and I see a warp trail near me I'll just go somewhere else.
If its a cruiser or smaller that warps to me and I'm in a BS hiding from superior numbers. Happy days toast the ship.
