Edited by: Had Enough on 11/05/2008 13:24:00 Do you mean scanning down mission runners?
There are a bunch of the scan probing skills that help
- Astrometrics
- Signal Aquisition
- Astrometric Triangulation
- Astrometric Pinpointing
You use a Scan Probe Launcher or Recon Probe Launcher and launch the probes and analyze the results.
If you're looking for mission runners drop probes around the system and scan for ships and drones.
There are also salvage sites which are Magnetometric but haven't found any yet so not sure exactly what they are. -

To clarify, you can't scan for wrecks directly. You'll need to scan for the mission runner's ship and/or drones instead.

Astrometrics is the one that allows you to use probe launchers. Get it to level 3 and you'll be able to find ships ok.

[*]Astrometrics[*] [*]Signal Aquisition[*] [*]Astrometric Triangulation[*] [*]Astrometric Pinpointing isn't all that important but it is very helpful to have.
Use a Scan Probe Launcher, launch the probes and analyze the results.

This is the guide you want to use to start. Kahega's Ninja Salvaging Guide.
If your looking to make chingos del la Iskies you can forget that. I've found the Iskies ain't all that great given the time and effort you can do better, isk-wise, doing other things. But the fun factor is way up there as the smack-talk and hate mail is usually juicy.
TBH, that's what keeps me doing it.

Edited by: Had Enough on 11/05/2008 15:23:17 Yeah I should have been a little clearer, the wrecks are not actually scan probeable. Also talking about exploration in general.
Yeah, for scanning missions use a Scan Probe Launcher, chose the type of quest probe for the area you are in, for example Gravimetric in Caldari space, Magnetometric in Gallente space etc. drop the probes around the system at planets, make book marks in between the planets and drop some there too for better coverage and chose a highly populated high quality level 4 agent mission hub system and have fun. -

Recon probes - Fathoms, Snoops and Spooks (and Ferrets if you have Atrometrics V).
You can find ships with scan probes too. The scan time is long but gives you a 0m accuracy. You want to be looking for people's drones too

I'd recommend a Recon Probe Launcher (not scan probe launcher) and fathom probes for practice. Scan probes give you more accurate results but have very short range and take a lot of patience and money to figure out how to use them. Fathoms (or Spooks if you get astrometrics 4) will give you a lot of hits quickly, and you can run the scan several times with each probe.
