just had a very weird thought regarding this story
What if this 'super-soldier' is in fact a saboteur?
he's snuck aboard the nyx mothership that rammed that caldari station.
i think this fits the story just as well since he'd have to hide aboard the ship kill key personnel quickly survive a firefight to take the bridge/command deck and then gets ripped to shreds when the ship rams the station.
if this is accurate its also very disturbing
regardless another excellant story and as others in this thread and previous threads have stated we are fortunate to have sucj talented writers working for ccp keep up the good work!

My idea is that this story describes being a podpilot.
1) We know from Jovin Wetgrave that you need years of training and/or biological enhancement to handle being in a capsule, so the first part would be that process.
2) Also from wetgrave but in many other stories including the descriptions for boosters, it describes the pilot as 'feeling' the things that are happening to the ship, such as damage, NOSsing etc, hence the hot/cold/electric stimulation on the skin. So I think that the second part is describing the physical reaction a body has to the input of a capsule.
3) The last part could be the bio-reprocessing plant (good suggetion whoever made it) but I also thin that it could just as likely be the bodily experience of being hit by a railgun charge or something to that effect. More likely the fomer as there is no mention of the neurotoxin in the last section. The last part mot likely describes a rather violent death.
So far CCP has managed to avoid crap like OMGSUPASOLJER!!!!! but has mentioned that capsuleers are genetically and/or biologically modified several times.

I was thinking that as well but there seems to be a lack of cybernetic augmentations, maybe a new bio organic system?

I was going to post a spoiler, but I'm enjoying the guesswork in this thread way too much. You people are tossing me story ideas by the dozen.

At least tell us if were getting warmer I think that yes, this is a soldier for caldari. Maybe A "normal" person signs up and has bio-enjineered sessions if that makes sense..The final act is when he is deployed on the battlefornt. I find it interesting that no concious thought is ever included, probably for effect. But maybe he was a dead/brain-dead person (at the start remember something about, "but a few hormones left that are breaking down" etc..) possiblty under control of a nexus or something (Quake anyone? lol). The reasoning is because we read about only autonomous reactions to stimuli. like isntead of saying "he scramed out in pain" it was described as: the abdominal muscles forced air out drying vocal cords etc..

Definitely seems to be to some sort of biologically enhanced soldier. The references to alcohol would suggest that this person has had a life of some sort in the past, and has not been purpose-bred.
I am imagining some sort of lower-caste/criminal Caldari put into this program against his will. -------------------------------- Caldari Independent Navy Reserve |

Sounds like some sort of steroid for use in the caldari military? Or prehaps the Guristas making the most of their limited man power by experimenting on prisoners and hostages. ---------------------------------------------------

Considering that we've now had 2 weeks to speculate, could we please have the spoiler? I want to know if I was close ______________________________________________ -You can never earn my respect, only lose it. It's given freely, and only grudgingly retracted when necessary. |

First of all, nice story! The process makes one guess what it's depicting, and it definitly makes one think about it beyond just reading the story, and that's that.
I think you might have made a typo though:
For a while there is utter stillness. Then a spot on the back, on the skin over the torn muscle, gets covered with something that begins to intrudes.
Can we please have the spoiler now? As stated, it's been quite some time.

Act 1: Some sedated, possibly unwilling victim, is subjected to a chemical alteration that makes him / her superhuman.
Act 2: The effects of the drug / change are tested, but it's unclear whether the test is to see if the new body passes, or if it's because this is the first instance where the victim has survived the chemical and it's time to see what it did.
Act 3: Describes (to me) the exact events that happen, down to the sound being played by the client, when we delete a character.
So, perhaps, the story is a depiction of what happens when a bored/clueless newbie creates a character, changing the the attributes up and down, etc., then the game does the final check to see if everything is good and if the name chosen is available/valid, and then the newbie decides he doesn't want the character after all and deletes him before even logging in.

Personally I think it's almost certainly involved with FW in some way, so I think that counts out a character being created and deleted, though that was an interesting interpretation to think about :)
Also, to be a podpilot mostly seems to involve neural interactions, with the body the of the operator just needing to stand up to whatever forces it is subjected to inside the pod... and while some of the modifications involved certainly would make the body more resilient to possible extreme forces, it seems a bit extreme for a podpilot clone... so I think it probably is a soldier, presumably in the Caldari forces since we're told he's Caldarian, though that might not be true obviously.
It sounds to me like combat on a planet surface, or maybe a station, so I personally don't think it will turn out to be from a battle on board the Nyx, though if it was it could just as easily be the crew fighting each other between those loyal to their suicidal maniac captain and those trying to stop him as it could be a saboteur on board as part of a grand conspiracy, though I'm not sure why someone in the crew would have had such modifications done.
And please do post a spoiler on it, at least a partial one... or at the very least hints, there's a limit to what we have to go on here :P

I believe the protagonist is indeed a Caldari Special Forces biologically enhanced soldier.
My main supporting text from the Chronicle is this:
"Now the visual cortex takes over, the head craning back and forth while the legs piston and the lungs work, and every now and then the body will stop, crouch, process visuals and react through hand movements, either a wave or a slight pull of a finger."
Please note that the text states "process visuals and react through hands movements, either a wave or a slight pull of a finger". This implies that the protagonist is giving out hand signals to others, perhaps squad members. A tactic that suggests Special Forces, not that of a simple Grunt.
In general I took the Chronicle as this..
Act I - Creation of a Biologically enhanced indivual.
Act II - Individual is put under deress in a stable environment to test his durability.
Act III - Protagonist is placed in a atmospheric combat situation and is K.I.A. Most likely from some sort of projectile, a gun perhaps. Then before dieing is terminated by either an explosion or some sort of extreme pressure.
Just my thoughts.

Cool! Though this does leave the interesting question of where exactly Caldari special forces have been engaging in pitched firefights, especially with this being released during the lead up to FW...

Yet another EVE chronicle that builds up, builds up, and NEVER reveals what the hell is going on... these annoying mystery stories are starting to bother me. I love the descriptive writing and mysterious subject, but please, how about some revelation at the end of these things. My interpretation was along the lines of a super soldier as well. I dont think this soldier was any specific race or in a specific battle, but just describing the way genetically and chemically enhanced soldiers are created, tested, and killed in the world of EVE. Yes it was cool, but come on. Give some reference, write a story line. I read these whole things expecting a little bit of plot and get to the end with just more questions than when I started the first paragraph. |

i have two theories while i do agree with the war type thing i also belive that this could be a method of torture by some corporation to a agent by spilling the making of some new powerful booster to the authorties first by showing him what the chemical does and what he missed then giving him death as punishment for spilling the info. my second therory is that this is simply something that the jovians are doing in a attempt to remove agression while giving them a better fighting spirit.
