Paladin (most lows)
3x tractors 4x salvagers (alternatively, drop one for an auto targeter...
100mn MWD cap recharger x3
lows: Mix of nanos (for speed), i-stabs (for inertia), and cargohold mods (for cargo, duh!)
2x salvage tackle rigs.

salvage tackle just improves the chance of getting the salvage on the first "hit" correct? You can't actually get more salvage on the first hit than the thirteenth hit right? ___ Eve Players are not very smart. Support Killmail Overhaul

Correct, you get the same salvage, just faster.

If you got acess to a paladin, or marauder at all. Why fit it like a salvager ***** instead of fitting it to do missions and salvage while doing the mission instead. Thats why you want a Marauder in the first place.

why screw up your marauder fitting for slow salvaging? with only 3 mods you will never be fast enough to loot as fast as you kill the missions. rather fit useful stuff like drone range or remote armor repairer (to fix drones if needed). not to mention that for some missions even the cargo hold of a marauder is to small for looting everything. either you need to bother jetson all the metal scraps, or you need cargo expanders.
for salvaging, i would use 4 tractors 3 salvagers, not 3/4 as posted earlier. and put lots of sensor boosters into your mid slots to target the wrecks fast enough. no need for cap modules, you initial cap should last long enough to salvage a few missions in a row. (just turn off mwd if not needed)

Yep, you gotta jettison metal scraps if youre 95% full, might even have to stack the items once. No bother at all. And fitting 1 tractor beam and 2 salvagers your easely gonna be able to keep up with your kills. In the very rare frigate superheavy lvl 4 missions out there, you might even have to skip looting the frigates. But salvaging and looting only the cruisers \ BS's shouldnt pose any problems.
Some people really try hard to find the worst arguements out there.. The ability to loot and salvage while doing a mission is the reason you want a marauder in the first place.

ship: Executioner high-power: Salvager I (x2) medium-power: 1MN Afterburner II, Small Capacitor Battery II low-power: Overdrive Injector II, Nanofiber Internal Structure II rigs: Salvage Tackle I (x2)
Fast, maneuverable, hard for the mission-runner to kill. You can't do better than this without an Interceptor.

Alot depends on how you define 'best'. To some people, best would be the ship with the largest cargo hold that can mount salvage equipment. To others, it would be the ship that can salvage a wreck field the quickest.
For myself, I find the best salvager is a Destroyer (all races). These ships have the cargo capacity of a cruiser, enough speed to travel a debris field quickly, and the highslots to fit a very efficient salvage setup.
I use a Cormorant, which is fitted as follows (from what I can remember off the top of my head):
Highs: 2 Tractor, 4 Salvager, 2 Small Beam Laser (ammo-free defense, but could be switched out for two more tractors).
Meds: 1 AB, 1 Cargo Scanner, Small Shield Extender, Small Shield Booster
Low: Cargo Extender (or a Stab if I think I will be in lowsec).
The above destroyer can salvage two wrecks while tractoring in two more, has the cargo hold to carry a good size load, and can reach speeds that let it cross a wreck field quickly. In addition, it is fairly quick to warp in high risk areas. All this in a hull that costs under 1 mil ISK, and is easily replaced if it is lost.
For more dangerous areas where you are likely to be attacked while salvaging, you may have to outfit a BS hull for salvage work, but these are pretty expensive ships to put into salvage duty. I probably would stick to your race's destroyer and rely on quick warpout rather than tank to save you.
Just my two ISK.

Ideal ship for me is a hurricane, I do the missions now and my friend salvages, couldn't ask for a faster set up. Ship is a hurricane (minmatar BC) 4 salv, 4 tractors, 1 100MN afterburner, 3 cap recharger 2s, and hte best cargo expanders. The battle ship sized afterburner is key, it allows you to go 625 m/s in between wreck clusters while also having a cargo hold in the range of 2k m3. So much better than a destroyer imo, you can always get the entire mission loot/salvage in one run as opposed to virtually any destroyer for any level 4 mission. But before that I suppose its fine. But yeah, if its Level 4s you're doing set up a hurricane and you are good to go.

Catalyst or Coercer tbh.
10mn AB II. 4*Salvager I 4*Tractor
and as many cargo expanders as possible.

I used to run a Catalyst as salvager for L4 missions, but quite often ran into capacitor problems after looting two thirds of the wrecks. Now I've switched to a Stabber. Cargo is a bit bigger and the ess high slots don't tax the cap as much (and the cap is bigger than on a destroyer too).
If there were any cruiser with eight high slots I'd take that :)

i fitted a catalyst for salvaging, 4 salvagers, 4 tractor beams, 3 cap rechargers (or 2) and 3x expanded cargoII, it really works nice.
hope it's usefull to ya Rutger31

This is your opinion & I respect it but the Kronos fitted as a dedicated salvage ship is incredable. If you can afford it fit it as your going to make uber money & ultimately that is the purpose of mission running- fun, risk & ISK.

golem pilot, in general I salvage as fast as I kill the only exception being when there are lots of smaller ships or I get stuck on a wreck that just wont salvage since I only have 1 salvager.
My favorite mission being pirate invasion takes me about 25 minutes now fully salvaged.
also, if your doing a mission with lots of small stuff in it, generally you can just salvage the good rats and not lose much on salvage so you can keep up with missions that way

If you're killing and looting/salvaging at the same time, then marauders of course. If you're just looting/salvaging I know most people use destroyers but cargo and cap is too limited to my taste. My favorites are stabbers (more cap, as fast, larger cargo but only 6 highs) or hurricanes (slower, but 8 highs and cargo can easily reach 1500m3 thanks to 6 lows).
Fitting is easy : 50% tractors 50% salvagers AB or MWD any mid slot left is for cap rechargers. Lows: I usally put 1 istab, 1 nano and fill the remaining low slots cargohold expanders.

Mission fitted Marauders do not have the cargo space to fit much loot especially with ammo in there etc.
In addition some people prefer running the misisons in other ships with better tanks like the Rattlesnake if its about ease of running as well as pure isk/hour.
+ salvage fit marauders are simply a joy to fly, I actually look forward to the salvaging which wasn't the case in my rigged destroyer.
