I was thinking of putting a POS down, anchoring it, then going to get the fuel.
Is this safe?
Can anyone come along and take the tower cos there is no shield there or anything?

Edited by: Artmedis Valben on 14/05/2008 12:00:44 In high sec this is perfectly safe. Only people with active wardecc's on your corp can attack your tower in high sec without CONCORD interfering.
In low sec or 0.0 this is risky since anyone can attack your POS with Capital Ships, without shields blasting it to pieces won't take long. However they must first find your undefended POS and want to attack it.
No one can just unanchor your POS (except your own corpmembers with roles that allow them to do this).

I'm pretty sure the tower itself still has shields while its anchored. -----

Confirming that the tower loses its forcefield when offline, not shields. It will still have around 40mil (for a large tower) shield HP to shoot through (plus around 8mil armour + hull)

does it need starbase charters or anything else to remain anchored in empire? for a longer time like 6+ months

Once the pos is offline. It will remain there forever. So no charters are needed to ensure its state.
Charters are only used in POS that are fueled up.

There fixed (remember you can fuel up a pos that's offline - in fact you need to do so in order to put it online)

You will need to have at least 1 charter in your cargohold to deploy a tower in highsec unless that has been changed very recently.

You need to have a charter in your cargohold to anchor it, but once anchored it will stay there forever without needing any fuel unless it is destroyed by someone. In highsec they need to war dec your corp to do that, in lowsec anyone can have a shot.
Being offline does not affect the SHIELDS it only turns off the forcefield. However when offline it will not go into reinforced mode when the shields hit 25%, it will just keep being targetable.

I believe there is a way to petition an offline POS tower for the purpose of replacing it with an active one.

You can petition moon blockings with secure containers etc, but claiming a moon with a tower (online or offline) is legal and the mechanic to get your own one there is called pvp.

Yeah but thats lazy and not really fair to the gm's, they have more important things to deal with.

No, you can't. Not unless the owning corp is closed (0 members).
You could petition to remove GSC's (though this is no longer necessary) as they were an unintended method of holding a moon. It is INTENDED that you have to shoot down an offline tower to replace it with your own, and the mechanic in the game is there for you to do so (wardec in highsec, not needed in lowsec/0.0).

I think the most vulnerable time for a PoS is while it is being transported to the moon. Here is a question, what if I see you anchoring and fly up and suscide gank? Anchoring process would stop right? Would unanchored tower be scoopable with my hauler alt? Click here for my High Security POS Service

No, you don't need to babysit the anchoring process.
Warp away, leave system, log out, getting shot - doesn't concern the anchoring process.
You need to shoot the player after the tower is launched but before it is anchored, or at the end of the unanchoring to steal the tower.

Once the anchoring process is started it can't be stopped by anyone, not even you. Only the few seconds between 'launch for corp' and anchoring is it actually vunerable to scooping. The most vunerable time is actually un-anchoring as this takes twice as long as the anchor/online process and displays a timer visible to anyone that looks at that moon. So people know right when the tower will be ready to scoop. Scooped many many towers in 0.0 this way.
