Why do you want to?
It is huge and doesnot move. How can you miss it?

Extra damage?
There are missiles with an explosion radius larger than the signature of a POS?
Somehow I doubt it.
To answer the OP, yes, you can target paint a pos. Hell, putt 100 TP's on it. Won't make any difference.

Your fleet will be able to target it faster though.
Do the right thing. Don't leave shuttles in space. |

Target Painting a control tower is not worth it, with it's 4k radius, you'll already be doing pretty much max damage with citadel torps (1k exp radius). However, other support/combat structures this is not the case.
Cyno generators and jammers, jump bridges, system scanners, etc are 400m. Large guns are 400m. Med guns are 125m. small guns are 30m. EW arrays (webs, jammers, etc) are 400m.
As you can see, if you are trying to quickly cripple a POS, painters can be ectremely effective. Especially since it only takes a couple painters to make your citadels (or other capital guns for that matter) much more effective.

POSes are immune to all e-war effects, and cannot be target-painted.

^ What he said, it also includes all the structures too. This was a royal pain when they had 10x the HP. You were more effective taking down small / med guns in hacs than dreads

Even if it would be possible, it would be pointless. You already have a 100% hit chance gainst all anchored structures regardless of transversal as long as you're in optimal range, and the radius is larger than any explosion radius. Everything deals full damage to an anchored POS.

The external structures are immune to all EW including target painters.
The control tower itself is not.
While it may be pointless to target paint the tower itself, it would be insanely useful to the attackers if they could use EW on the structures. Target painting them would make them easier to hit, especially for a phoenix. Turret dreads would also benefit from painted structures if they haven't had a good 5-10 minutes to come to a complete stop.
But target painting isn't the reason structures are EW immune. Imagine if you could sensor dampen and tracking disrupt pos guns. I don't think CCP wanted 20 Tech1 EW cruisers to be able to neuter an armed POS.

Why not just warp scramble it instead? I'm sure that that thingy weighing 1000 tons and with 0 propulsion will warp away juuuust before it dies. Right.
