Just entering exploration my self but already I feel there isnt much more for me to find or do in that part of the game. I didnt play for 2 years and was thrilled when I started again and found out that Exploration was now something that was possible.
Since I am more about the story of any game rather than the action or personal profit this was something I enjoyed extremely. Untill recently that I stopped finding anything new. PLZ lissen to Endrain and the others here. Make exploration a cool thing again |

Imagine you're salvaging some ancient site.
You salvage some weird item, the "item description" says: The function of this "enter race name" device is unknown, but it looks partially intact. Maybe if you take it to a proper scientist, maybe he could work out something.
You take it to an R&D agent or an archaeologist or you tug the item between the two (at their request) as they work on it. Possible Outcomes: a) Massive boost to Research Points b) A special item/limited run BPC (ancient battle drone anyone?) c) Some role play boost - "A capsuleer named XXXXX had made a major archaeological discovery" or something along these lines.
you get the picture.
I think this would be a great idea as a way to introduce new ships/modules. It could go like; ccp finish a ship then someone has to be the first to finish an exploration that this new ship/module is available on, then the first person to finish the development gets there name in the description.

I only recently started the exploration thing, mostly because i needed something to do while spending many hours in the recruitment channel trying to get my corp some new members.
The whole idea of discovering things that you can't find in the usual pve deadspaces is quite appealing, but it turns out that it's just another wash, rinse , repeat kind of thing. so yes, i totally agree with Endrain and other posters. some more depth would be very welcome!

Sounds like an awsome idea, Seems most the game is gear way to much to pvp but theres not much more than that. A little extra depth would be very nice.

All kinds of things that could go to Exploration, I thought it would be cool to find an ancient stealthed warp gate or its equivalent to a hidden system, the gate would require archeology to decipher its operating language and hacking to access, possibly even a use for some of the technology that you cant sell to reactivate, but once you spend the time/materials on it you would have pw protected, exclusive (at least until someone else found and hacked the gate you spent so much time and effort on) access to a small solar system. Once you had the gate functioning again, the only way to find it would be for someone to scan you down while you were using it, Knowing there will be shots taken at the idea, I have a few ideas to balance it. 1, gate has limited activations per day 2. requires players to fuel it every use 3. something like a 10 minute activation time, owing to our imperfect understanding of the technology requiring us to charge the systems for every use.. we dont know how the safely idle its generators, or something. 4. perhaps we cannot get full function out of the stealth systems causing the gate to be easily found for a few minutes time at random intervals (thinking 2-3 times a day here) 5 password changes randomly requiring us to re hack it for every use 6. the massive surge in power when you activate it causes it to show up briefly on everyones overview in the system every time you use it (just long enough for an alert player to select it and warp to it) once you are within 10km its easily detectable
any one of those or a combination would mean that your "private" star system would be found eventually, and no longer be private.
As to the system you find, thinking not more than 1-2 planets with a couple of moons a piece, 1-2 asteroid belts with maybe a rare ore rock occasionally, rats that dont have bounties as know one knows wth they ARE. maybe an abandoned station of odd design for you to figure out (more arch/hacking)
I dont want to suggest something that is a game breaker, eventually someone is gonna catch you going there or find the gate some other way, cahnces of scanning down the location would be tiny, but better than before you fixed it, as there are active systems to give off emissions, now. A careful player could possibly drag out his/her sole access for a while, but eventualy someone will find it. (theres another idea here- bloodhound drone.. small, stealthed, attempts to follow and report on a ship's location chances of a successful track go down quickly the farther the drone has to follow, and it cant leave system, only report on the last location of the target. a chance to lose track of the target every time it warps) If you keep the systems that can be found this way very small, you should be able to run "several" off a server cluster. make sure no more than one gate spawns in any given system

I love the idea. I did not like the idea about other people being able to warp to it though or the blood hound drones because people could just log and the get to their spot later. I think if You find a system your corp gains control of it. This would keep random people in noob corps from having it, and also gives a perk to your corp not your alliance. everyone will have access to it but on the other side will be guns and batteries if the finder wishes. The lower security status space they are in the more valuable they are. There should also be a fuel to keep it from being scanned out probed or appear on the overview since its not been found for so long why should it be picked up when its activated? Who knows maybe an ancient race had gone in there thousands of years ago when the system still existed and no one knew.

i also think this is a good idea. so i whish thay could intergrate it in to either the next patch or 1 in the very near futuer. it would give the game more meaning to do things and make it more accessable and give a perpose to lurnint the exploration skills.
come on eve please do it. you knowyou wanna give us more for our cash

I do a lot of PvE in the form of missions. I can and do some exploration. Missions get really boring really fast. I would love to have some story to go with the exploration. Would keep it from getting too boring. Signature: It's my Character and I will play it how I want. |

Edited by: Kazumi Kingslay on 28/05/2008 06:09:06 I would've thought this was already implemented that way,... I'm new to eve, but even in early missions you get confronted with ancient ruins and stuff, and some ancient rogue drones, a forgotten inactive POS with semi active defenses,... that stuff doesn't sound too hard or far fetched to be implemented. I'd say got for it and add some depth to this gread games story feeling. It's not too late to find the first big ruin of that type ever discovered, because those ancient guys had some decent stealth technologie that just ran out of battery-power... something like that.

I Totally agree. I Have yet to do proper exploration, but talking to you and reading this, i totally agree with what your saying.
reading all the storys the eve writers have come up with over the Years and the skill with which they are writen, why dont they bring that skill into exploration. It would add another facet of interest and complexity to the game.
though i doubt they will put in things like "ancient drones" because they just bought out the 'augmeted drones'. but finding research stuff would be interesting

adding more depth to the archeology sites would give explorers more to do and not only want the hacking sites

as I bought the Art of Eve book today and read it (such a nice book btw ), archeology and exploration could be the idea to develop the Jove empire and to discover throught artefacs, sites, relics and such, some clan-like organisation in that empire and their use of ancient knowledges ...

I love reading these ideas. Being new to Exploration, I would like to see some add to this aspect of the game as well. With all the hard work that CCP puts forth in adding new content to the pvp side of play, I would hope that they could take the time to add some new and different content to exploration. Not jsut add more sites, but as one example that I have read, is to add some soryline to it. It would create a whole new twist on Exploration.
Come on Devs, read this thread and take notice of what your players are asking for. :)

Posting so my kitten can stay safe :)
In all seriousness, it is nice that the devs have put thought into the Factional Warfare and PVP aspects of the game, but those are not the only parts and I for one would like to see some additions to the game mechanocs in this area. There have been many fantastic suggestions for them to implement.
