I'm looking to hop into a carrier in a few months, but the information on carriers is pretty sparse. I've done an eve-search.com search, a google search and so far found not much. I did find this PDF guide but it's clearly out of date.
Anybody have a comprehensive, up to date, carrier guide they can link me? - Support fixing the UI|Suggest Jita fixes|Compact logs |

Xaen is 2.5 years old. ;)
It will actually be a corp-owned carrier, I'm trying to get as much info on them as possible before we ever undock. And we're not in an alliance.
It's not ship setups I need assistance with. The PDF was helpful, but I'm wary of trusting the information in it, because I know for a fact parts of it are outdated. - Support fixing the UI|Suggest Jita fixes|Compact logs |

As far as I'm aware the operation of carriers hasn't changed since they were released. The only difference is that now they cannot store ships that have items other than ammo and charges in their holds, but can in turn hold more ships in general. Otherwise I'm almost certain that everything is the same.

Edited by: Bronson Hughes on 16/05/2008 15:51:45 Xaen, that guide is still largely accurate in terms of what you do with a carrier. Some of the stats are out of date (Ship Maintenence Bay in particular I think got doubled), but you can look those up in EFT or EvEMon or something like that.
The only really big change was how cargo inside ships going into the Ship Maintenence Bay gets handled: any ship going in can now only have ammo in their cargo hold or they won't be accepted. This was intended to reduce carrier's ability to act as a jump freighter for non-combat logistics.

I think Asestorian is correct on this.
The carrier is a support ship first and foremost. It provides fighter support, remote armor/shield support and can be great at moving stuff. You can even toss a bunch of smartbombs, heavy neuts or whatever else you might think you need and gate camp in it.
Not sure why you would be afraid to undock it, just keep it close to the station and allow your pilot to get used to it's size and now slow it really is.

Some very basic stuff
1) The carrier is a support ship for fleets. 2) It can't jump through gates. To move around needs another ship in gang with a cargo full of liquid ozone and the skill "cyno...something" to open a cyno for it a few systems ahead. You jump through that using your overview. 3) think of the carrier like something between a dominix with bigger drones a logistic ship and a freighter. So it fights using drones like the dominix it uses its high slots to heal the gang members of damage and it carries stuff like a small freighter. It's also slow like a freighter. But it can't jump through gates . The only way to travel is through the cynos and this is its biggest weakness in fact. You just can't solo with it ever. You always need your teamates to move you around. Also you need to have fuels for the jumps in your cargo. If you get out of fuel you will stuck in that system for ever unless someone provides you with fuels and someone else opens a cyno for you some systems ahead. 4) Also bare in mind that you can't get to a system with security higher than 0.4 in a carrier. 5) i don't think it would be very useful in your corp unless is a corp that does fleet warfare. 6) has no guns or missiles 7) can only be parked into a POS |

Yes, regular capital ships can dock normally.

I read the guide slappy, you're mostly repeating what's in it, only getting some wrong.
But the Known Issues section is known to be out of date (fighters now MWD back to the carrier just like drones). - Support fixing the UI|Suggest Jita fixes|Compact logs |

Well if ISK isnt a problem it would only take six months to train for the carrier, thats excluding the things needed to fit it (or even fly it properly) and other capital equipment like fighters.

I meant that person 1 spend 6 months READING and LEARNING about the carrier for 6 months, rather then 6 months training for it.
