IMHO, you shouldn't mine before you can fly a cruiser, at least. It's just not attractive from an isk/h pov. Just do the numbers.
Btw: how do you manage to get successfully can-flipped, anyway? It can't happen while you're filling up if you're paying attention, you should be easily warping away fast after collecting your stuff, and not idiotic enough to get your stuff while already locked by a tackler.

Then get some cargo expanders and make every ore thief wince. It's not like a retriever would have a significantly undersized cargo hold.
Sadly, it does not seem to be "adapt or die", but "adapt or whine".

Well I cannot kill more than one rat in a mission before having to warp out, having to recharge at a station, and re-fitting for armor reppers every few rats.
Do I whine about it here? I just silently curse that I can't fly bigger ships better than right now.
