as it is now stargate jump paths seem rather short, they can only jump for a limited distance, so it seems rather odd that CCP would toss in these super long range stargates in nullsec. It doesn't make sense storywise. so I'd like to propose some possible changes:
1. replace the old gates with the new highway gates (which are supposed to be long range) 2. replace the one jump gate with chain jump gates: you jump through the first gate and appear at a "junction" an enclosed tunnel with gates at both ends, you fly to the next gate and continue in the chain, the longer the jump, the more links in the chain 3. (my personal favorite) the long distance gates are replaced by "Warp bridges" a more long distance but slower version of gates, you fly in one end of the bridge and appear in a tunnel (similar to a warp tunnel) your ship is hurtled down this tunnel to the exit on the other side. while in the tunnel you can move and turn, hurtling around this tunnel, you can even shoot at other ships while in the tunnel or force them out of the tunnel into certain doom. (if you cross the tunnel wall you asplode) imagine it like this, your in the warp tunnel with a group of ships, but your firing at each other, and moving and turning as your hurtled through warp, if you don't think that would be the most awesome thing ever there is something wrong with you. as with the chain gates the length is determined by the distance between the systems. _________

It seems to be, the general purpose of star gates is to get you from A to B in the least amount of time. So they appear to disintegrate your ship, and fire you off in the beam of light. You get reassembled at the other end, and continue on your merry way. If this is the actual mechanics of the devices, or just a way of speeding up gameplay, I don't entirely know.
However, I have seen several Sci-Fi shows where people fight while at warp speeds and such.
But this sounds more like fighting in Babylon 5's "hyperspace" which Star Gates definately are not involved with.
So I suppose... I really don't know where I stand on this.

Edited by: Gantor Tesla on 16/05/2008 21:26:07 Ever make / GM a video game? It's called an area transition. It's an A - B transfer, with a Stargate to wrap things up nicely for the role players. There is literally NOTHING between the gates. The space only exists on the map.

We understand it's a loading screen. But thank you for clarifying with your uber leet geek knowledge.
The point is, why not add another dimension of gameplay, by allowing ships to participate in that transitional space between systems.
