That is one impressive bullet. It's a good image to bolster your point, but I would say that, in accordance with the monstrous size of ships in EVE... I.E. *See Ambulation Video* where a Zealot is shown to be roughly the size of an Aircraft Carrier, then that 800mm (Carbonized Lead)round in your picture is right on scale.
Seeing as how the weapon that fires that round in EVE goes on Battleship class vessels, which are normally three to four times bigger than a cruiser in the game, makes the round, tank, and probably the entire museum they are in they are sitting in, pale in comparison.

Comapre that size to a tempest being a mile long & tall and it's not that impressive anymore.

theres about 80 dps difference between 425 / 650 and 800mm give of take some...
Be nice to see abit more added to the large autos anyways.
Also whats the deal with fleet EMP, i mean you get 55.5x on ANMF, 55.5 on CNAM and 50.5 on RF EMP..?
Hail does get used on Auto's sometimes but its just your mainly committed to barrage, wish hail would get a bump in falloff abit anyways.

800mm is the diameter of the projectile not the length. Ie: a 50cal Browning machine gun cartridge has a diameter of half and inch (or 12.something mm).
I think the mm lengths for Auto's and Arties in Eve (ie: 180mm/425mm etc) are the length of the projectile measurement, not the diameter as all the guns in a class use the same ammo. --------- If the Thorax was a car it would look like this |

I think this is another case like 'Eve Physics vs Real Physics', just because it looks or sounds like real life does not mean in any way that it behaves or is like real life. And would you want sets of ammo for every gun, ie 180mm EMP/Hail/Barrage, 425mm EMP/Hail/Barrage, 800mm EMP/Hail/Barrage, etc as that would get REALLY annoying! ------------------------------------------------ Either pick a dry year when fighting wars or civilize the moronic races and have no wars at all! |

800mm's whule be referred as 32.00cal
Dunno abaut the gun caliber tho, but acording to the techical data of that bullet, i whuld think its something close to 24cal

That is the other point of t2 ammo nerf, noone use (should) close t2 ammo as faction is as good and have no drawbacks. For long range people use only t2 as it has better dmg/range and at 150km tracking dont matter that much.

Well as a diameter measurement it would not work as per the reason you suggested...but to me it makes sense as a length anyways.
So say a 180mm Ac has a 180mm long projectile. A 220mm is slightly longer, but also more volume and weight so hence would equate to more juice in the 'warhead' and also a heavier kinetic punch. So we have more damage...
It also makes sense that it tracks worse (the gun) cos it has a heavier clip and also the weight of the rounds in the barrel would also slow the rotating of the gun in its mounting compared to lighter projectiles.
Well, that how i like to think of it anyways... --------- If the Thorax was a car it would look like this |

personaly id like a 55.5x for RF EMP.

7.62 x 51 is the ammunition used in a german G3 (assault-rifle).
7.62 = 7.62mm diameter (bullet) 51 = 51mm length (shell)
So the 180/220/425 for med autocannons is the shell-length here, if we're starting to squeeze rl-physics into it, as all med autocannons use the same ammo (diameter). This says nothing about the diameter of the bullet in that case
But we can only guess, that with a 800mm long shell (800mm Autocannon), the bullet will be something like 120mm in diameter, which is used on a Leopard 2 or a M1A2 Abrams in fact. .

That isn't fully true, except for battleships. Nuclear ammo can be very useful for an artillery Wolf, artillery Thrasher, artillery Hurricane, etc. ... simply because tremor kills your tracking so you can't hit fast ships.

EDIT: Make that 6 guns on a Tempest with a RoF of 5 seconds and it's allready very impressive... a tank shooting every 0.8 seconds this would be
The nomenclature you describe is for ammunition. When refering to guns, it is typically something like:
USN 16"/50
Where the leading number is the diameter of the barrel and the trailing number is the length of the barrel in calibers. In this case, we have a 16" diameter barrel with an 800" barrel. This was the main gun on the USS Iowa class battleships of WWII, widely considered to be the best naval gun ever produced as it outperformed the 18" guns on the Japanese Yamato class battleship at all but very short ranges.
But enough history.
I have to agree with your assumption about projectile diameter there. If all weapons of a given class use the same warheads, it has to be assumed (for numerically identified weapons) that either the the only difference is the driving charge (which makes the entire ammunition assembly longer) or that the larger caliber weapons use the smaller caliber ammo along with some sort of discarding sabot to fit in the larger barrel.
But this whole argumenet breaks down with railguns because they use no propellent charge, only stored electricity.

Well, if the length is 800mm, thats a little larger than a tank shell... somehow it's hard to imagine a tank shell damaging a battleship that is like 1+ km long, no matter how crude the mimnatar are.

Everything weapon-related in Eve doesn't make sense on some fundamental level, just like the volume of everything weapon-related or otherwise (thousands and thousands of cruise missiles stored inside an Eve stealth bomber, something the size of a passenger aircraft? I think not.)

first, the railgun ammo is lihter, propelling it faster take less energy. (faster velocities isint always beter, because ammo may shatter on contact, and lose it penetrative capabilities) Second, i doubht its propelled anywhere near C, being that propelling 1kg slug to even half to relative C, whuld penetrate any EVE armor like butter. And you can load AM payload on to shells, too. (phased plasma may be just that)
The total Kj may not be that difrent in 425 and 1400mm slug's but the velocities are. Thena again, 1400mm slugs have limited guiding systems while 425mm's have noe . Thats in Backround lore btw.
This said, the 1400mms do relativly more damage, so i asume the Kj is bigger in them, the rails are hig precision wepon with more RoF, while minmatars are "ME SMASH, ME KILL, OOGABOOGA".

The whole idea of fireing antimatter is completly insane anyways Lol. If it is an actual mix of matter and antimatter the quantities used in an antimatter L bullet would propably be able to destroy europe.

I remember when I first saw the entry for Dual 1000mm railguns - I thought to myself "a railgun that fires compact cars!". Then I saw the entry for quad 4600mm artillery and I thought to myself "a gun that shoots housing complexes at people!"
Still, I'd have to agree. You can pack a WHOLE lotta firepower onto 800mm of projectile. We aren't privy to the size of a cruise missiel for example but I seriously doubt it's 800 mm in diameter. Sure Caldari are more advanced than Minmitar but you could certainly expect a fair amount of low tech doom to be fit into 800mm's of pain. Of course, there may be BALANCE reasons why an autocannon hits as hard as it does. Personally, I feel that autocannons hurt quite a bit.
