After a month I have had an awesome time. One big problem I encountered tonight was hauling with my corp from a station way out for about 12 jumps. Well it sucked the life out of the game. For the first time in a month I realy thought about maybe it was time to take a break from Eve and see if I wanted to continue. It was during my third haul when it started feeling like work instead of entertainement.
Easy fix would be to make hauler cary about 3 times as much as they do now maybe more. or make them 3-4 times as fast.
Im not complaining yet I think it is important to point this out as it may be a huge turn off for other players.
I love Eve and will just try and avoid hauling yet I cannot let my corp down either. Anyway just my two cents.

You can add some modules to your indy to go faster... It can still be a pain though. On safe trips you can go afk and do something else like most do. It is never boring (or you play eve since more than a month^^) when you cross very dangerous zones.
I like to take my indy and find some good deals on trade markets too, sometimes another one comes one second before me and win the race, quite fun anyway .

Or else, mine nearer to where you actually need the minerals. Of course, if you're mining arkonor or something way out in the wilds, you have nothing to complain about anyway - the stuff's valuable enough to justify the time involved, and if you don't think so, mine scordite instead.

I think that the indys have to remain more or less the way they are for balance reasons. If they were faster more people would actually mine with them!
One suggestion is to keep the ore in a local (in system) base and have the player with refining skill refine them before transporting them out of system. That way most of your hauling is in-system, and with good bookmarks (instamarks) it can go relatively quickly. When the mining is finished and you have minerals, all the ships in the op should help to transport them back to the corporate base or wherever you are taking them, to cut down on the number of trips. Also, you should probably have more than one indy hauler in the op, depending on how many miners you have and what they are mining with. And, finally, it may be easier to find a system closer to the corp base (try 2-3 jumps), it saves a lot of time. ---------------------------

Long hauls can get boring. If you can get the skills, see if you can do some of the guarding or mining. Switch jobs every now and then. I would love to be able carry 100K m3 in a cargo ship, but that be a bit unbalanceing for hauling and trading.
Sometimes I read or watch tv while travelling. Just keep an eye out for trouble.

Elite industrials! - cargo ships (15k+ base cargohold) - trade ships (3k base cargo, reinforced armour and shields) - mining ships (2-4 turret hardpoints with +150% mining yield for mining lasers and 1k cargo)
Btw.. sometimes you can't refine ore in same system as you're mining, since in most 0.0 systems there are no stations.

I remember when indys were fast Before Castor my Bestower did over 550m/s and the Badger 2 was even faster.

Elite mining frigs are coming, haven't bothered checking the bonuses though. Dunno about other ship classes but maybe they're going to have special mining ships as well. Haven't heard about elite indys though :)
Check http://www.eve-db.com/index.php for the mining frigs.

On long courier missions or mining hauls I'll clean house. Works out great. My wife can't say my gamming disrupts the cleaning LOL!

Wasn't your hold about 1/3 the size on the badger though?

More than half of it's size, depending on your type of CE's/nano's ofcourse. Pre-castor I reached speeds up to 1.2km/s, at top within a few seconds. Oh, those good old days when blockade running in an indy was still a sport :)
