Herd about this from a friend, Using a Myrmidon to soak belt rats with an active mining ganglink in it. Wondering if anyone has any fittings for one. |

The first question is, where are the belts you're trying to do this in? Most mining ships can happily handle the sort of rats you will see in most areas. Guristas and Serpentis in 0.5 might call for someone to tank them simply because of their ewar and the short range and relatively long lock time of barge class vessels. The second question is, is there a better ship available? Obviously the Orca is the most obvious one because of its link bonus and its ore capacity but it's not necessarily suitable if you've just started a Power of 2 account and, having specced him in leadership, are going to have to wait for a considerable time before training beyond BCs. Next question is how many are mining? Without the ore hold, corp hangar and ship maint of the Orca the only effect the Myrm will be having is to tank the spawn (which could perhaps be moved to another ship) and a small (initially) cycle time bonus. If you only have two ships in belt then the yield gain you get from fitting the second ship with miners will almost certainly outweigh the increase from the link.
If what you're aiming for is to run a full rack of links to increase tank...etc as well as improving yield then you probably won't have a tank so... |

I mine in 0.0 With Sansha rats. I have one hulk and one Rat soaker in a Dom, I do not want to put him in an orca yet but that will be in the future if i do. Yes i know orcas are better, i can handle my own hauling with an ity 5. I have corp boosts when we are on together but often we arnt. So i was wondering for a fit where my myrm can soak rats and have a cycle time mining boost in the highs, a corpie told me about how he used to do it, so i figure **** while im sitting there useless soaking rats might as well boost. |

Not sure if he is trolling or not, but I'll answer his question non the same.
Rats in 0.0 have cycles. Starting with a group of frigs and cruisers. Once they are killed a group of rats spawns slightly more powerful, and once those are killed the rats get progressivly stronger till you have 2 battle ships and 2 frigs, after these are killed the cycle resets, back to the low end damage/ship type.
So a "soak ship" would be a ship that doesn't kill the group of small rats and the miner just mines away while the soak ship holds the rats "intrest". Miners go along unmolested... soak ship gives boost... this can be done indefinatly because the rats will never shift targets.

Might I suggest using Brutix instead of Myrmidon. More CPU and Tank. Currently I'm using this setup
Lowslot
Co-Processor II x1 Capacitor power relay II x1 Adaptive nano plating II x1 Damage Control II x1 Medium Armor Rep II x1
Medium slot
Command Processor 1 x2 Cap Recharger II x2
High slot
Seige Warfare Link - Shield Harmonizing II x1 Mining Foreman Link - Laser Optiz II x1 Mining Foreman Link - Mining Laser Field Enhance II x1 Prototype cloaking Device x1
Rig
Medium Aux Nano pump I x2 Medium Anti-explosive pump I x1
EHP is around 36k with sustained defense around 150. Cap Stable and low cost. You can swap out the Armor rig and armor plating for specific rat. |

if hes tanking sanshas, he may run into neuts, i dont know if sansha belt rats neut, its been a while since i last saw them, but fitting nos to that myrm/brutix and hitting the rats might not be a bad idea if hes really just sitting there,
im not sure if they orbit in range though,

Sansha (53 em+47therm) 45% cap stable with SAR + ab + neuts off, 260 dps tank @ 159 m/s + SAR 5 minutes of cap w/ 391 dps tank + neuts (12.6 km range) perma everything @ 391 dps tank + 333 m/s
Or drop the ab for another cap recharger and perma run both reppers with stability at 34%
and of course drones for whatever, maybe 3 web drones to keep a bs from wandering too far or a set of rep drone for the miners if they begin to take aggro. |
