OK, an idea I have on the subject, is a stiff ISK fine and possibly security standing/fation standing loss on some sort of sliding scale based on how fast and how chronic their corp hopping is. Concord and their factions should both frown upon cowardice.so maybe the devs can come up withf the sliding scale ISK fine (they pay, and pay ALOT to leave or close a war declared corp, and they more often they do it, the bigger the hit) Losing items from hanger because you left corp or corp lost a war dec just makes it way too easy to prey on one month old players. ( or lets say you took a 2 week vacation and lost a battleship and 2 HAC from your hanger because your corp lost a war that you didnt take part in. I dont think I would care for that at all) This would make game open to massive griefing by opportunistic players looking to farm weaker corps for profits. I mean, they do that now, but material gains should come from ships destroyed and looted, and financial settlements from the corp funds, not seized from the individual players hangers.
I tend to favor the fine, sec /faction standing loss.

Edited by: Le Skunk on 30/05/2008 02:43:37 * Start off in NPC corp- Skills for a 1 man corp built into players.
* After 2 months, moved into your own one man corp for free - NPC corp is off limits. This corp is wardeccable.
* Free to remain in your one man corp - or indeed join a player corp. Locked into this corp for 7 days then free to join who you want.
* Player ellects to stay in his corp - and gets along fine.
* Player ellects to join another corp - gets along fine
* Player ellects to join another corp - hates it - leaves or is booted into his one man corp - locked into the one man corp for 7 days. Wardec is transferd if applicable to the one man corp.
Whilst being locked into a one man corp for 7 days each time you want to change corps is not particulaly pleasent - It encourages corp loyalty, and discourages random corp hopping (whilst still allowing people to mvoe about)
Corp hoppers to avoid eardecs will carry the war with them to their one man corp - and after it runs out will be wardeccable in their one man corp.
It also deals with people hiding in NPC corps for the purposes of hauling, scouintg, loot thieving, mission invading , suicide ganking, etc without facing any consequences.

Isn't the solution exceedingly simple? Just make it so you can't leave a corp for 7 days after joining. A week is not too long for people to endure, and the aggressor corp can wardec the new corp for atleast 1 cycle.
That will stop the new corp every day bull*, but will still allow legitimate changing of corps.
Who the heck would ever need to join a new corp every day anyway except expoiters?

You captured my meaning: why should there be any need for a cause? I like a straight answer. We decced X because they annoyed us, we decced Y because they were easy kills for phat lewt. Nexa showed that not all decs are the latter, but many are. So what?
Originally by: M'ing Pai No, carebears should be offended by themselves for putting their stake in a very Darwinian game...
If EVE were really 'Darwinian' then any tactic that contributed to survival would be a valid tactic.
Originally by: M'ing Pai The only failure in the mechanics I see is that a group of people can set up 4 alt corporations and make themselves immune from wardecs from 1 corp for a measly 8 million ISK.
Would avoiding a war-dec be okay if it cost more than 8million?
Originally by: Nexa Necis 0.0 is no different than Empire, meaning, that a lot of people die unprepared or unwilling to fight in 0.0 just like in Empire.
Credo.
Originally by: Nexa Necis Your system is equally failed since another corp can dec the corp paying the tithes to the first corp that dec'd them. What if 5 corps dec them?
I was hoping using a %age would cover this. First dec = 10% of 100%. Second dec = 10% of 90% or 9%. Third dec = 10% of 81% or 8.1%. A better algorithm would somehow do the calculation simultaneously, so that first corp becomes disenchanted with second corp for reducing their cut.
Originally by: Nexa Necis If you're unskilled, then you probably shouldn't smack talk to people, you shouldn't brag about your officer fitted CNR in local, you shouldn't have a POS you cant defend, and you shouldn't be in a corp named "Destructors of DOOM!!!".
Agreed on that :) We will have to agree to disagree about relative skill levels to the extent that experience and conjecture leads me to reason that most often high-sec war-deccers are better at PvP than their targets, whose skills lie in other areas.
What are your thoughts on dialling up the cost to avoid decs? Or would you support some kind of cooldown on jumping? Or...?

Again, the problem is still going to be the "exploiters" who dec a corp with alt corps or something like that.
Then you will also have a situation were war decs will be going crazy if people are guaranteed cash from a corp. There's no practical way to impliment it or make it work in Eve. You can see in your seperate thread a ton of reasons why it wouldn't work.
Originally by: Brother Welcome We will have to agree to disagree about relative skill levels to the extent that experience and conjecture leads me to reason that most often high-sec war-deccers are better at PvP than their targets, whose skills lie in other areas.
I think you're wrong here again. Tons of 0.0 denizens were carebears in Empire. Just because they transitioned to 0.0 doesn't mean they aquire pvp skills as a rite of passage.
It just means they latched on to a group who has some 0.0 space open for them to use. Moving to low sec or 0.0 does not translate into more skills pvp or otherwise. I mean I sit and watch in alliance chat where you have the same bunch of people who "X" for gang and the same bunch of people who ignore it and keep ratting or mining. They never help pvp and they've been in 0.0 for 2 years.
Originally by: Brother Welcome What are your thoughts on dialling up the cost to avoid decs? Or would you support some kind of cooldown on jumping? Or...?
Dialing up the costs makes no sense. As I said, people will not pay 20mil to save a 300mil ship. I've seen it tons of times. They would pay 100mil to exploit and avoid a war, but they wont pay a 50mil surrender fee. I'd say 90% of the people we dec do not even try to negotiate. Even when I attempt to offer it to them.
They usually do the same pattern.
Smack talk. Get war dec'd. Convo me in an attempt to explain why it's lame for us to dec them and how we will either never kill them, or will be killed by their friends. I keep the war active. They smack some more. They get located. They get killed. More smack. They quit corp or jump to a new one or have the corp jump into an alliance. Get war dec'd again. Threaten to petition. Log out and train a long skill.
We call it the Carebear Playbook in our corp chat.
CCP has a free way to avoid a war dec, NPC corps.
As I have said, I think there needs to be something put in place to prevent the exploitive corp jumping but something that is also fair to the normal player just swapping corps for whatever reason.
I think people should be able to jump out of corp when a war is active. When people jump to NPC corps, that's fine. Again, my only concern is the ones creating the placeholder alt corps to swap to.
I think a 7 day hold on joining/leaving a corp is a good idea. If you're already in a corp for 7 days you can leave it. If you jump into a new corp you're stuck there for at least 7 days before you can jump out again. When you jump out you're stuck in an NPC corp for 7 days.
Any legitimate player wanting to swap corps should have no problems waiting 7 days.

Actually that's true. I'll stand by my point that the deal with 0.0 is clearer to players, but agree with you that 0.0 doesn't translate into PvP skills for all players.

A formal system is likely to change this. Players will feel more comfortable doing it, and they'll know for sure that if they pay they will be free from the dec. Of course, the deccers could go to their alts or an alt-corp and re-dec... TBH I think it sucks that CCP hasn't made all alts in an account members of the same 'family' so that such things carry over. Sure you can have multiple accounts, but that issue applies intractably to a lot of things.
Perhaps payment could be for spans of time like 7-days? I don't see how it would hurt to at least build this option into the contracts system. Those who would use it would use it, and it does no harm to those who do not.

I quite like the 7-days idea. No obvious abuse comes to mind. The only downside for CCP is how some players feel if they are forced to sit in a station and train for a week. Denial of play may be a quit point. I suppose they'd just get out their alts...

As the self declared carebear representative for all of eve, I blame ccp for this problem. Game mechanics should be changed so war decs are more expensive and immedate, perhaps 1m per hour doubling every 3 hours. This satisfies the empire pie's need for easy kills as a moral booster.
Now that I have solved the problem with pvp, ccp should also provide us bears with war dec immunities that we can buy from concord with the same escilating cost. Like that tv show survivor! Make war an isk sink to counter all the insurance payouts. Click here for my High Security POS Service

Easier way to do this is make the war dec something both sides can bid on 1m for corp lvl and 10m for alliance lvl. All bids are taken by concord, even the losers. I mean you are paying for concord to look the other way , seems it should be the highest bidder gets what they want.

Would there be any issues with players corps want to get rid of? For example on day 1 a newly joined player smacks corpmates and steals some corp loot. (Yes, I know corp was too trusting, just go with the example.)
Corp wants to get rid of them, but can't for 7-days. Players can individually squelch the smack, but I think corp might still have the problem of going to their POSes and ensuring nothing is left lying around for the next 6-days.
You almost want a corp sin-bin: some kind of title that strips all privileges including access to corp POSes.

This may have come up already, but my glasses aren't conducive to reading the whole thing.
have a cooldown timer on corp swaps, from corp A you can release roles and jump into corp B, as is the current mechanic... but once in, your stuck for some agreed upon amount of time before you can go to another, it would let people move around the community in a reasonable manner, but you couldnt just air hockey it around the alt list. im sure a dev could come up with a clever little note about how you cant leave yet until human resources straightens out your health benefits or some such...

Just a thought or two:
Why do high sec pvp corps try to establish such warm and cozy relationships with each other?
Why do they arrange to absorb each other into alliances or agree to Naps?
Why do they not see that they are in fact competitors?
Nexia, when is the las time you war deced Privateers, Sex Panthers, MDK, Veto, Idle Guns, Cruel Intentions, Racketeers or any other noted PVP/merc corp? I bet the PVP would be fabulous. If good PVP is what you guys truly want, why have all these man-love agreements? Fight each other. Good pvp, good loot and no one will corp jump for fear they will be slammed on the forums. But then again I suppose you might actually risk loosing and that is bad for ego and business.
Stop crying about a lack of will to fight. There are plenty of willing targets out there. If you start decing REAL pvp corps instead of tongue kissing them you might find what you claim to be looking for. I suspect what you a truly looking for is not good pvp but easy kills. Hell I would pay war dec fees to see you fight any of the above named corps provided you show up.

You're quite conveniently missing the point entirelly, as I figure might be your goal. The OP is talking about a broken mechanic, and how we can attempt to make do with ingame means in order to correct said mechanic. It has nothing to do with him wanting fights or targets or anything of the like.

It is true that we have to constantly work around corp jumpers. That is why this thread exists. If you read the OP, it is a proposal to help combat the steady stream of misguided individuals who think this game has consentual PvP.

They have said that they are "looking into it" thus at least acknowledging that it's worth looking at. That I see it as a broken mechanic is just a matter of common sense. One side pays to wage war. The other side jumps corp, paying significantly less, to avoid war. The final outcome is that it is much MUCH cheaper to avoid war through jumping corp than it is to dec people. This isn't just a matter of 'griefer' vs 'carebear', as examples have shown that even so called 'griefer' corps will abuse this mechanic and render all merc corps useless.

Are you saying that getting decced for smacking on the forums isn't a consequence? Have you studied English at all? It's the very defenition of a consequence. It's got nothing to do with 'griefers' (boy, you like that word, don't you?) and everything to do with speaking only if you are able to back up what you are saying. In RL you can get away with saying almost anything, but in Eve you can expect to get smacked around if you open your mouth when you shouldn't have.

Yep, I know it's a game. You do know it's a competitive pvp game, right? Paying subscription money doesn't allow you to play a different game than me. It allows you the same rights and privilages that I have. You are asking for a whole heap of extra rights. Go back to WoW.

All I did was offer some questions and another possible answer to the problem. Dec who you want. But if your track record shows you avoid true PvP corps at all cost and instead Nap them, you have very little to complain about. I hope you are prepared for an answer that does not give you unfettered access to PvP without restrictions. War decs that can not be avoided at all lead to fat happy high sec pirates and carebears that flee. Hmmm sounds like low sec. You listening Mc Fly?
You are saying that Eve players should have a right to play this competitive pvp game without risk for pvp. Yeah, I'm listening, chump. I just think you're an idiot.
You did not address a single issue in my post. Instead you hurl insults and change the subject. War is far too easy to wager and maintain. That mechanic is also being look into as we speak. You seem to think that a change which restricts corp jumpers is coming and you may be correct. What you fail to see is that the change will also most likely reign in GREIFER corps that overuse the war dec system. Thank GOD the Devs are smarter than you. They actualy care to see the game stay around a while.

I'm merely calling you on the fact that you post with an alt in order to smack on the forums without fear of consequences. This is my main. You may dec him if you don't like what I write.
No! what you did was cowardly back away from the challenge. I submit that your "main" has nothing to loose. I do not have a true PvP alt, only industrial types. I could make one just to satisfy your childish request, but would you then please please please post with one of your industrial alts? Being in the game as long as you have you should have quite a few. Until you do, I will ignore your request mkay?

Currently corp hopping to avoid wars is not an exploit but how about his - Had a guy other day isolated from his backup, all his exits covered. He quits corp, undocks and travels back to his HQ, where he promptly rejoins his Corporation. Now if that isn't playing the system I don't know what is.
The only problem with introducing penalties for corp hopping is that you need to incentivise staying in a corp(esp one that is currently at war).
Here's my proposed changes for you to flame at will
- If you leave a corp, you can't join a new one (or make a new) for 24 hours, can't rejoin the corp you left for 7 days (if that corp was in an Alliance, you can't join any corp in it for 7 days)
- Corp set up fees should be increased,at least 30-50 million.
- War dec fees for Corps vs Corps should be 20 million a week, but remove the stacking penalty (keep the 3 dec limit in place though)
- War dec fees for Alliances should be 100 mill a week. (If you're in an alliance you can afford it)
Corporations should not be throwaway entities, you should be made to work together, otherwise why be in one at all?
Laslty, to the carebear Alt parade, WAR DECCCING DOES NOT CONSTITUTE GRIEFING.

What is there to adress in that snippet except for what I did adress? It's basically the same old "Pick on targets that wants to fight" bogus that pops up from carebears like you from time to time. And, for the record, I did not insult you. I really think you are an idiot. That's just a statement of fact.
About the part where you claim the devs are looking to reign in the 'griefers', where have they stated as much? I can't find it anywhere, but you must have a nice link for me, right? The Devs are much smarter than me. I am smarter than you, though, and that's all that matters in this little tOt-a-tOt.
