Did few lvl 4s on testserver now (they can be accessed via faction standing once you joined the melitia) and i have to admit the devs did a good job here.
The first one, Shades of Grey, was quite tricky: you have to kill some civilian transporters (full with civilians, that's why the melitia sends you to kill them since that's too dirty for a regular navy) that are about 70km from the warp-in beacon. The tricky part is the sensor dampening by the gallente ships, so you have to remove them first in order to be able to lock the civilian transports, quite hard without fofs. Looks like everyone can warp to that beacon and assist/attack you, so there will be new tactics required, e.g. gaining fast distance from the warp-in point and warp out once you see something coming in that you can't fight for example.
The next mission (The Cost of Hubris) was quite interesting, when you warp in, a fleet of around 20 npc from your faction's navy is about to be killed by the superior enemy faction fleet, and you can assist them. The funny part is that all the ships of your faction drop wrecks, so you get free 20 wrecks to loot (contain nice tags) + the loot of the enemy npcs that you killed. And it's just awsome to engage in the middle of a fight, gives a little taste that you actually participate in the war between factions, very interesting mission-type.
The given missions seem to be quite far away from the agent, had to travel 4-12 jumps for the missions, and that will be the most challenging part i guess, bringing a battelships through lowsec in such a contested zone. Some of the missions were in systems without stations, so travel-fitting won't be always an option, guess gangs with smaller ships will be the favourite missionrunning tactics, instead of doing them solo in a big ship like in highsec.
The rest i saw so far looks quite epic aswell, the only problem was that there wasn't enough gallente fodder for caldari launchers, something like 140 caldaris and 40 gallentes signed up when i checked last time, hope this is not representative of what will happen on tq once fw goes live

I asked this in another topic but it got no answer, how do you jump on Sisi these days? There's no toggle to switch between servers like the old one,,,

In one of those stickies in testserver forum is a guide that has all the info. You'll have to add " /end /server:87.237.38.50" to the desctop-shortcut of your eve copy (under properties / target) and then you'll connect to testserver. Just check the sticky threads there to find precise info.

The SISI typically has different build ("patch"), so your TQ installation isn't compatible with SISI. So you need two installations of eve, your normal tq one, and then you need to install the sisi build one in different dir. There was a sticky somewhere around explaining the exact details, but I can't seem to find it atm.

From what I understand having read the dev blogs, you still ahve all the old missions to run - the contest and PvP only happens if you run missions for the faction agents, having signed up for the faction militia either as a solo player or as part of your whole corp.
It's an opt-in PvP, so if you want to avoid it, you can.
Also, in response to another post a couple after the one quoted, the faction missions are run in low sec space in between the factions - for the Gallente/Caldari, they are putting in a new region specifically to accommodate the expansion.

Just to answer some questions: the agent and the mission place were all in lowsec, ofc. anyone can attack you there and probably will, because when you start the mission a beacon appears in local to which everyone can warp to (to what i understood it has a ship limit, you cant warp into a lvl 1 mission with a bs, but not 100% sure if i didn't mistaken this for another complex), and yes, they have smaller agents too; they have quite a lot of agents from diffrent combat divisions (command, security, surveillance, internal security etc.). The only thing i didn't like so far were those missions that had specific items which you get after you killed some ships and which you have to bring to your agent in order to finish the mission. For example a combat report with 80m2 had to be shipped for 8 jumps through lowsec after the mission was finished. I guess if someone steals it or kills you and you can't buy it anywhere, you'll have to fail the mission and take a standing hit .. and there's a high chance that you'll lose it in that area. Also the time given to accomplish the missions is quite short, only a few hours to finish a lvl 4 ... for highsec missions on tq you have 1 week.
While the missions were quite interesting, the capturing of strongholds was the other really awsome thing. You can find them with ship scanner and contest them, killing npcs and waiting for e.g. 15 or 20 minuts and it's captured. During that time the enemies can warp in and chase you away, so the timer starts to count backwards. We had some funny fights at the capture sites with gallentes who tried to contest caldari space. For capturing such a stronghold i got an almost 10 times bigger standing boost than from a combat lvl 4 and advanced in rank, so for ranking this defenitely is the easier way.

Yeah, I was expecting ppl who don't like to pvp all day to get smth to do in FW, oh, well, idc, then I guess.

At least you don't have to worry about getting probed anymore - it's done by the game automatically! How about you have the beacon show up ONLY to members of the opposing militia?
Missions are fine and interesting, i don't say they should be ignored. It will only be easier to make ranks/militia standing with capturing strongholds, but ranks are not the only thing in FW. And maybe the capturing sites are limited, for example if caldaris captured all capturable systems and gallentes don't dare to contest anything, maybe missions will be the only way to get ranks, but we will see. CCP might also adjust the standing gain, it's still on testserver, so maybe not final. But ofc. solo-missionrunning lvl 4s will hardly be possible, doing lvl 3s in a gang of interceptors or stealth bombers will be more popular i guess.
I think the guys with stealth bomber bpos or production lines will be making lots of cash with this update. |

It's not like you can even count on the systems to be empty - there are gonna be all kinds of people flocking to the activity.
Since it pretty much means traveling in a blob gang anyways between the lowsec and the 15 jumps, I'd rather take my time to contest systems than run missions while being visited by passing 'travelers.' I'll stick to getting my NPC-popping jollies in hi-sec, thanks. ---- WTB Armor Nerf Hardener II, 10^100 isk OBO |

Ok, got your point. But don't worry too much about pirates. Pirates are highly overrated, the only big thing about them is their ego. When they read about FW, they dream of sitting there and "catch empire carebears coming in in their faction fitted cnrs", warping to a beacon and finding a lonely battelship with estamel modules.
They were successfull so far in some situations because missionrunners were not aware of the threath (delusion of highsec) and didn't have pvp fitted ships, but this won't happen in FW, everyone will see the obvious threath and be prepared for it. The target audience of FW, people who live in empire for a long time and are about to be driven out of highsec by offering interesting lowsec content are usually people that have enough isk for the best technology, t2 fits, things like specialized ships (covpos, nano-ships with snakes etc.) or can simply afford to lose hundred of t2 fitted battelships, and who usually have the better skills (staying in empire with +5 imps pays off), so they won't have that coward pirate mindset "only engage if it's 1:5 in our favour". They will fly alongside with pvp experts that seek a fast-paced and dynamic pvp in a target-rich environment, instead of dull 0.0 gatecamping. The random pirate gangs will be fodder for the melitia fleets that pass by. Don't think you'll see many of them in that area, and at the end, when they finally catch a solo ship, they will get some t2 modules at best, because again, it won't be full with empire carebears in in shiny faction ships with officer loot, like in a pirate's wet dreams. It's like in rl, pirate ships attack juicy targets, lonely trade ships. But when there's war and the area full with overwhelming numbers of combat-ready military ships, they will hide in their holes and prey that noone finds them.

There are regular missions and they are superior to the existing missions.
E.G Accept a mission from a FW agent, go to system and I saw a fleet of Caldari Navy NPC vs a Fleet of Gallente NPC and I joined in to help. Much more realistic than the current "Rambo" style missions we have currently where its 100 rats vs you. |

word....I'm a one man band operation in this corp using some alts, certainly not gonna throw it all out the window for something that has yet to be really proven in the game dynamic....and cummon lets look at what lvl 5's turned into.
I do however have a couple of lowly PvP alts not doing alot atm meh let them try it out and they are both opposing sides if i let natural ethnicity do it's thing which i plan to.
The idea of this supposedly 'bridging' the gap between people doing low/0.0 and Empire is pretty ludicrous imo and i honestly think it's a quick fix to what didn't work in the lvl 5's( nudge nudge ccp...how about you fix them first?).
It's all a conspiracy i say to force players out of Empire before Ambulation! Don't buy into this Mission *****s Stand Strong! And who is our CSM candidate? oh wait devs all to busy on SISI to count votes i guess.

are there any game mechanics that encourage sticking with your own militia, or is it still a corp-level thing (I.E. you still kill whoever is not in your corp)?
Do not try and find the signature... that's impossible. Instead only try to realize the truth... There is no signature. |
