Originally by: Mysticaa True. However, with a requirement of posting to support or not, you will only get a fraction of the player-base to even respond. However, a poll that is created after enough debate will allow the CSM members a better picture on wether or not it is worthy to bring to CCPs attention.
Virtually any issue that's going to be raised will already have been discussed (to death, in fact) elsewhere - there are already threads in this forum where the original post consists of a link to another discussion, sometimes one that's been going on for ages.
A poll will inevitably attract plenty of discussion while it accumulates votes- by the time it reaches 5000, I'm sure anyone reading the associated thread ought to be fairly well-informed on the issue at hand. Postponing a poll until some arbitrary amount of discussion has taken place only wastes time. My research services Spreadsheets: Top speed calculation - Halo Implant stats |

True, however, letting any Tom, **** or Xkhkar create a poll will only leave us with a situation similar to the one we have now, with millions of threads created on the same issues. ----------------------------------------------- Why do I post here?

That's a separate issue, and it needs to be fixed even if we don't get proper polls. However, if an issue is important enough for lots of people to support it, it's unlikely that there'll be multiple competing threads that actually make significant progress.
Where two threads really are almost identical, though, they ought to be merged, ideally adding together the non-duplicate votes. My research services Spreadsheets: Top speed calculation - Halo Implant stats |

I was actually the first the original poster asking for this feature :)
one of things I brought up was if we didn't have to post to support or as I put it " /signed" a thread, then the devs and the CSM would only have to read thread with feedback.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but what does this solve? You can make a topic saying 8/8/8 slots for everything (to bring up an old point) and it will get many thumbs up. That is not the point of this, it's to discuss what needs to be done, and why, and then have a threadnaught of discussion, not a single post with 800 signs on it. What makes one idea more legitimate than another simply because many people understand and support it? What if I have a very well thought out, but complex idea that miraculously fixes everything, no one understands it, so I only get 5 signs. Then Cher Bear comes up with missiles need to do more damage, and it gets 500 signs from the caldari side of the house, even tho it solves one problem that's not really a problem. I suck at forums |

So people dont have to think of a comment or you dont just get theads filled with "/signed" so you can actualy find the posts where people actualy have some thing worth commenting about.

Make that thead, it wont get past 20 ppl supporting it. Even if it did get the 11,000 (or how ever many you need for the devs to care) they will just shoot it down.

If you have nothing to add to the thread, then don't post, it's up to the CSM and CCP to determine what's actually important, not what what's supported the most. I'd rather have them look at a thread with 20 signs that addresses a serious game issue than a thread about the forums with 500 signs.

I support this !
Ah and insert a non-support option. Which helps to the support/non-support ratio. Which helps to get a easier understanding whether a topic is controversy or if it is clear support or non-support.

When a thread has 5 pages of people saying "agreed" it reduces the chance that an undecided person will have the opportunity to read posts that have well-reasoned arguments.

I fully and wholeheartedly agree. I was expecting a checkbox or button labelled "Vote your support for this proposal" next to the original post, and a counter with "This post currently has xxx votes", instead of a huge list of /signed.
Well, it is one way of making voting not anonymous i suppose..... |

thats why the council then discusses it. we are only voting to get it discussed. if a thread about missiles needing more damage can score up enough votes to get itself on the agenda, then clearly there are enough people wanting it looked at to make it an important topic.
if your idea is so convoluted and complex that people dont understand it, then naturally its not going to get votes.
so instead of saying we need to do X,Y,Z to achieve objective A. say instead:
objective A, i think its a problem because la-de-dah-de-dah.
people can then relate to this and agree. nice first liner for opening the thread.
then say:
i think we need to do X,Y,Z, what do you think?
people will then say things like:
it needs to be addressed, and i do/do not support your method if fixing it, but /signed anyway.
if they don't, they will often post ideas of their own. in that way, you will get supports form people who recognize the problem, without scaring people off with a large, complex solution.

I would prefer a situation where I could vote in favor (or neutral or against) and have the completely independent option to post in a thread. So, no need to vote before I post and definitely no need to post to vote.
I'm also wondering about the possibility to retract my vote after some discussion...
Vote well and have fun, Grismar.
