Had an idea i could get a Apocalypse and use it for missionrunning.
Atm iam using a Armageddon with a Dual heavy pulse/Mega pulse + 1 heat sink setup and iam killing battleships fast... When i get too them. The traveling is a enourmous timesink for me and its getting pretty boring so a sniper could do it perhaps?
Skills: -Amarr Battleship 4 (yes iam a noob) -Weapon Upgrades 5 -Advanced Weapon Upgrades 4 (double noob) -Electronics/Enginering 5 -System Operation/Management 5 -Armor Repair Systems 5 -Weapon skills in general are at level 4/5 but can only use T1 Large turrets so Modulated Tachyons will be the way. (triple noob)
Would a Tachyon Apocalypse be wiable for level 4's and you guys have recommended setup for me? Somebody set up us the bomb |

You'll find that your going to have issues with running an all long range setup as there are a lot of mission BS's that come in real close.
BTW level 4 skills arn't noob skills level 2 (minimum skill) would be noob your just not top teir yet.
The current setup I'm running is 4 tach's and 4 mega pulses. All with amarr navy crystals. The base range on a Mega Pulse II is 24km, with Sharp Shooter 5 it takes you out to 30km and amarr BS 4 you'll get 39km with standard crystals and around a 9-10km fall off. I also have a set of microwaves that push me out to 54km or so which covers all long range mission BS's. My tachs are 53km opt base or 86km with standards or 43 with multi's and a 24-25km fall off.
I have also run all pulse setup's, but they have a little difficulty at longer ranges and I have found the combination of tachs and mega pulses to work nicely.

I currently run an Abaddon with Mega Beams (I used to use pulses and found the travel time annoying as well) and it works great. The only issue is that I tend to have to kill things before they get too close or it becomes a problem to track them, even with all level 5 skills. Although unless they are really fast I can usually hit most BS rats up close. Cruisers are a problem even at 20km sometimes.

Edited by: Shiken Kan on 23/05/2008 22:30:32 the problem is an apoc can't mount 8 (or even 7) tachs without a fitting mod but you can go mixed highslots:
low 1x lar 2 4x hardener 2x hse 2
mid 2x cap rech 2 1x tracking comp 2 and 1x signal booster 2 (high1) or 2x tracking comp 2 (high2)
high1 6x tachyon (amarr navy ammo up to ir) 2x cruise missile launchers
high2 4x tachyon (an gamma is the highest range one you need) 4x megapulse (an microwave to have same range as tachs)
3x ccc
setup 1 has pretty nice range (118+optimal with ir) and still does decent damage, cruises hit cruisers very well and can choose the damage type. also they can help your drones with very close orbiting battleships.
setup 2 can only hit out to 84 km but hits a bit harder and the megapulses are nice versus close targets.
\edit oh and my amarr alt flies setup1 and it works really great :D

Tbh Tachyons on an Apoc for missions is a waste. The best you can do is either Pulses on an Apoc (with optimal rigs and TEs/TCs you get great optimal out of pulse lasers right along with the inborn excellent tracking and decent dps) or Beams on an Abaddon (Range is fine even without the Apoc bonus and you get the 25% extra damage. Cap is only an issue if you don't know what you are doing.)
Putting beams on an Apoc otoh leaves you lacking in the dps department while going overkill on range and having fitting issues, and pulses on an Abaddon give you hilarious dps that you can only apply like 50% of the time due to lack of range. (Exception: Scorch, but the OP can't use that so...)

8 x Mega Modulated Pulse w/ Multifreq (20km) and Standard/Ultraviolet (34/39km)
1 x 100mn AB II 1 x Heavy Cap Booster II w/ 800's (for use incase i need cap boost when running 2 reps) 2 x Cap Recharger
2 x LAR II 2 x EM Hardener II 1 x Thermic Hardener II 2 x Heatsink
3 x CCC I
Drones: 5 x Small, 5 x Medium This setup is similar too my Armageddon one exept I got more range, better cap, slightly higher DPS. But will the range i get actually help me that much or is it a waste? And what can i change too improve this setup?
The reason for a 2nd LAR II is because there are times when 1 simply won't do from my personal experience but maybe iam doing something wrong

Since you fit EM and therm hards, I assume you are already running the correct missions. Not sure what else you might be doing wrong, but I have never found the need for a second LAR in Amarr missions. How I would fit my Apoc, using equipment in your ballpark:
True Sansha Heat Sink True Sansha Heat Sink True Sansha Heat Sink Tracking Enhancer II Armor EM Hardener II Large Armor Repairer II Armor Thermic Hardener II
Shadow Serpentis Tracking Computer,Tracking Speed Shadow Serpentis Tracking Computer,Tracking Speed Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II

Energy Locus Coordinator II Energy Locus Coordinator II Capacitor Control Circuit I
Drones_Active=Hammerhead II,5
Scripts in the TCs can be changed depending on what you need, with optimal scripts you get 42km optimal with MF crystals. Cap stable if you use standard and turn off one gun. 700 turret dps. For missions with more incoming damage I would put in an extra hard in place of either HS or TE, but most Blood/Sansha/Drones should be manageable with just the three slot tank (replace hards with EANMs for Drones of course). Of course gotta throw in an AB for those annyoing gate travel missions, but you wont need an AB to get in range anymore at all. Standard crystals give like 70km range.

Yeah I only do missions against Blood and Sansha, sometimes Drones forgot too mention that but guess my fittings gave it away :)
I really like your setup but I guess iam doing something wrong on a few points doing missions. With my Armageddon setup there are many missions I can't handle with 1 LAR II so i need a second one and on some missions you warp in close too the rats and get a nice fast aggro in which "range tanking" won't help that much, how do i get around this? But I think i'll definatly try this out. Somebody set up us the bomb |

More resists > more reppers. Especially for gank setups. Your initial HP as buffer are fairly important for ganktanking, an a second repper does nothing for that, while more resists do. When I was stuck with less SP and lower grade equipment, I sometimes even used to tank into structure intentionally with a damage control, to prevent having to warp out (main occasion for that was the 5 Serpentis BSes aggroing on top of you in the Sansha WC). And I don't know in which order you kill the NPCs, but the correct order to remove enemy dps the fastest is fist BCs, then cruisers, then BS. And for obvious reasons, of course kill the scramble frigs first, and TDing HACs/AFs next.

I've done a few missions in my armageddon now and realised the reason i need too use 2 repairs is because of all damn traveling lol. Without that I could kill the rats before they can manage too hurt me bad. I'll try your setup but iam confident it will work. thanks alot Somebody set up us the bomb |

Keep using the Armageddon, its faster than the Apocalypse. The setup below gets an optimal of 34km or so, which is more than good enough to shoot most ships. By loading standard or microwave, you can shoot ships in the long range missions while you get into position. If you are an experienced mission runner, you should focus on completing mission faster.
You don't need the safety of 2x LAR and an AB helps tremendously in dictating range if you need it, and travelling to the next gate. Speeds up your mission further. The range of the beams means you can have hostiles come to you. In the easier missions I drop a CPR for another heat sink, since some mission you barely need to touch the repper.
High 7x Dual Modulated Heavy Beam with Gamma L (range 34km) 1x E500 Heavy Nos

best way is to try it out for yourself; transplant what you can from the geddon to the apoc, and if you don't like it transplant back and sell the apoc - if you like it, sell the geddon

I believe you have no idea what you are talking about. Have you even run missions with DHB? Don't take my word for it, by all means. Go mission in it yourself, or see the EFT stats if you must. It's much cheaper, much easier to fit and a bit faster in running the missions. ____

More like you have no idea what you are talking about. Have you even run missions with better weapons than DHB? Sure DHB are cheap and easy to fit but that is about the only redeeming thing to them. An Apoc with Megapulse beats the crap out of a DHB Geddon both in EFT and in game. And so does an Abaddon with Megabeams.

My way around that is using a Golem for that particular mission. Probably no help for you though. Otherwise not sure, a Megabeam or Tachy setup with long range crystals might still have enough range on an Apoc to pwn them even under TDs. Not sure though, only did it in Abaddon before and there it did not work out. Definitely the most annoying mission around for laser users, the TDing is insane and doesn't even stop for me.

The Tach/Megapulse war as been going on forever, and will likely never end. It will always come down to personal preferance regardless of whoever screams omg1337setuphere! SO...... you should use whatever you feel matches your playing style the most.
However, for the sake of being redundant and actually answering your question, I shall post what i have been using for some time. Although keep in mind as with all Amarr laser boats, skills are the core of your ship.
I prefer the Apoc Hybrid setup. Granted you wont have the skills to run the setup below, but you should be able to piece something close to it.
Highs:
- Tachyon Beam Laser II (X4) - Heavy Pulse Laser II (X2) - Arbalest Cruise Launcher (X2)
- Amaar Navy Crystals for both large and med lasers - Caldari Navy Cruise Missiles
Mids:
- Cap Regen II (the name eludes me atm) (X3) - Your choice, I tend to float between the targeting range booster or similar bonus mod
Lows:
- Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II (X2) - Heatsink II - Large Armour Repairer II - Active Armour Hardener II (X3) - can swap one active hardener for a second heatsink II if needed
I run missions in caldari space agains Guristas most of the time so I run 2 Active Kinetics and 1 Active Thermal. For sansha missions I pop on 1 active EM and 1 active THM and run a second Heatsink II.
Rigs:
- Capacitor Control Circuit - Nanobot Accelerator - additional armour rig (can vary, not at my main pc so I can't remember which one I have one there but take your pick on whatever area you may be lacking in. Or if you just want that little extra bit)
Unfortunatly this setup is very skill intensive.
Large beam laser spec 4 (all prerequisite skills at 5) all support gunnery skills (i.e. controlled bursts, rapid fire) at 5 Weapon Upgrades and Advanced weapon upgrades at 5 all necessary mechanics skills at 5 including armour composition skills all necessary engineering and electronics skills at 5 Battleships 5 (a must pre apoc adjustment to run effectively, or if your cap skills aren't up to snuff. Now... not so much but still useful)
All in all I really prefer the Hybrid setup. The Tach II's partnered with a powerful crystal will tear through anything in amarr region missions, Heavy pulse II's for ships that close in. And Cruise launchers to adjust damage type if needed. Not to mention Faction ammo is way better then standard, without the penalties of Tech II ammo. Additionally T2 drones are nice too. With this setup I can tank any guristas and sansha/blood raiders mission I've come across (Angel and Serpentis can get hairy but are generally not a huge deal if you are smart). Take this as you will, but good luck with whatever setup you do choose.

You are using a MWD so i suggest you take advantage of it and use close ranged crystals instead, will give you loads of more omph against the rats. Faction Crystals is the best you can use exept T2 but those aren't needed for 0.0 ratting.
