Edited by: Ameliorate on 24/05/2008 12:36:03 Back in 06 it was announced that a Mobile client for EVE was in the works.
Also that year, CPP Sharkbait told us that CCP was hiring a person to manage the project.
The thread spilled over and in 2007, Sharkbait said
Quote: i do not have anymore information on it, only what i had when i originally replyed. once there is more information then there will be a forum post regarding it or a blog of some sort.
And we have heard nothing more.
I think there is reasonable demand for a mobile client and it would be great if the devs could give a conclusive answer as to if this project is going ahead.

The project was done by university students. These people stopped the work on the project, and CCP now runs it on the backburner.

I support this matter being brought to the attention of the devs.
An Eve lite client that would allow me at least to change skills and pay corp bills from a mobile device would be invaluable.

the devs have never acknowledged that themselves. As far as we know the project is cancelled and never going ahead.

Even a Simple SMS Query system to do it from Eve itself would be acceptable to me. -----------------------------------

Even that would be alright, as long as it is available outisde of Iceland and the US, heh.
To receive an SMS saying "X has finished training" and then be able to reply with "train Y" would be great.
So would "sendisk PLAYERNAME 1000000" etc.

If we can't get a skill queue, that's certainly the second-best option. ------------------ Fix the forums! |

And with luck it would be useful for other things to.
BUY XYZ 1 5000000 EVEMAIL PLAYERNAME blah blah blah
The possibilities are endless and it could all be done from work etc.

I am all for fixes to the Linux/Mac clients (I am about to make the switch from Windows to Linux quite soon), but Linux and Mac clients are already available while this is new functionality. Meaning, the Linux and Mac clients are going to continue being updated even if this is released in the meantime. I also don't see the mobile platform development hindering the Linux and Mac developments, mainly because they are most probably being done by different teams

But no thumbs up, so it doesn't count towards the total support :(
I might edit the OP to explain how to support a topic.

With the advances in mobile phone technology, especially with the deployment of the 3rd generation networks there is certainly no limitation on this from the phone/mobile device point of view. The only issue I can see in progressing this is if CCP is willing to commit any resources to this.
I know I own two devices that could have run the proposed 'lite' app and there must be 10's of thousands more subscribers that would appreciate being able to do some of the less interesting admin tasks during their lunch and get back to the PvP/Mining/Building when they are in front of their PC's.
If CCP aren't willing to commit resources to this I'm wondering if they would allow certain of the more well respected members of the Pilot's app developer community to work on this as volunteers and have them report back to a Dev or producer as I'm pretty sure that the comunity would love to support CCP in that kind of manner.

That wouldn't be a bad idea. I am positive there are people who would do it (just like people make EVE-related programs (such as EVEMon). The only issue I can see is that CCP would have to provide them with source code, which may be sensitive information.
