Problem: Most auctions here have a very definite deadline beyond which no more bids are excepted. This leads to a few things:
* Traders that time their final bid to the last minute to sneak in an offer that can not be countered. * The item owner losses ISK because all counter-bids are cut off by the timeline.
A simple solution is:
* Set a deadline * Once the deadline is reached, give the final bid 30 mins for a counterbid. * If no counterbid arrives within 30 mins, the item goes to the final bidder. *If a new bid is made within 30 mins, then give another 30 mins for another counterbid and so on....
This will ensure, that you, the owner, gets maximum ISK because it allows the bidding process access to more potential buyers and more time to compete around the critical deadline. The owner does not have to be around for this because the post times/date can be used to see who got the final bid.
Its a good idea to post your bidding rules up top for bidders to read whatever method you end up using.

I like that idea Primer, but dont you think 30mins is a bit harsh?
i mean it could expand the auction to much and there is a danger of spamming/extending the auction time to somewhere and in the end propably can terminate the whole auction.
I mean to check the bio of the bidder in eve, switch to forum, negotiate in eve etc etc. Maybe 15 minutes is a more flexible system to buyer and seller and at the end the next bid has to be at least 5% of the complete sum higher then the last... that would prevent the cent bidding after closing of the auction.

Can be 15 mins or even 10 mins. As long as some reasonable time period is given so other bidders can respond.

I doubt that. You can be totally absent during the selling. You come back and since you posted your rules up top of your auction, you check who made the bids. Look for the last one with the 30 minute (an example) elapsed time. If you post your rules, most people will stop bidding anyhow. Only those that don't read properly, will accidently bid. I doubt spamming will be anymore of an issue then it is now.

Its just as prone to false bidding as any other system. You can get a false buyers in any auction here.

Well 15min, 30min, 10mins...I don't mind. However in my opinion 30 mins would produce the best results ISK wise for a seller.

Another option to consider would be once you have weeded it down to the final few bidders that are truely intrested to bring it to an ingame chat room for the final hash out. |

Some people, like myself, will NEVER bid on an item, after the seller comes back online in the forums and says, "Just had an anon eve mail bid for 200mill" Evolution..... Just when you thought you were winning.

Well, in my last auction i did hav a sniping rule. Auction can only end when the deadline is reached AND there are no more bids for 30 mins.
Ofourse you can never accept eve-mail bids. that's too dark and wil definitely scare some ppl off. On the other hand there are the ppl that dont want to be known, but today there are so many tech2 bpo's so i guess this must not be a real issue.
Another thing i run to... The sniping rule was kickin in real nice and the 2 final buyers were competing but then that huge forum downtime showed up... So i'd guess that a rule should say that downtimes should extend the auction for equal amount of time.
Dont forget to place a reserve, a bit more han you expect it to sell. Dont expect to use it, but its always nice to have your back covered.
Oh, and don't go overriding your own rules like cancelling, extending etc. Your rules are your rules, if you go breaking them ppl wont like it.

I got a better idea. CCP PROGRAM AN IN-GAME WAY TO AUCTION ITEMS.
Thanks.
