You can reduce cycle time on the ice harvesters/lasers, would need a command ship with a link though. -Xonox Pulsar Combat Supplies, Director of Production and POS |

you can have dedicated belt tank, as well as someone to watch local at all times, then you can use dedicated hauler which will improve efficiency. Having a gang helps with mining foreman skill, and some other mindlink.
Group mining is often compulsory, POS fuel and carrier fuel acquisition as compared to for profit solo mining.

Yeah but this is only worth it in a reasonably big sized gang (I think you need 6 people for it to be worth it), or it's better overall to have that person mining ice rather than sitting there in a command ship giving a small-ish bonus.
The advantages in a smaller (3-5 person) gang are: - 1 person can haul - you can chat and be less bored by the whole process... |

You don't actually need a command ship do you? Can't you also use a battlecruiser with a link? |

Battlecruiser works.
Benefits: same as mining - more ice/hr.

Tested it myself, you do not need a command ship to get maximum bonus to cycle time. It can be achieved with a battlecruiser.
When boosting a perfect ice miner that has 2x Ice Harvester Upgrades fitted, using the cpu implant, cycle times gets down to around 225 secs per cycle.
It takes following to ahcieving perfection for Highsec.
Mining Director V Warfare Link Specialist V Mining Foreman Mindlink ( Implant )
For further bonus, the Rorqual is the way to go, but can only be used in lowsec, until CCP release the Orca.

If you're in high-sec ice mining will theoretically earn you... About half what you'd make mining ore. However...
Ice mining means no (or very, very few) missed cycles due to a roid running out mid-cycle as you have to deal with when ore mining (particularly with high-sec's anorexic roids). So it sorta balances out a little bit there, but it's still worth less than ore mining.
On top of that, ice mining has loooong cycles so you can ice mine while doing other stuff without too much hassle. You can do the same with ore mining, but as per the above paragraph, ore mining still requires more attention.
In 0.0 you can usually find high-end ice even in crappy 0.0 systems, so if you don't have access to Crokite/Bistot/Arkonor you can mine ice (blue glitter specifically) for about the same income as Dark Ochre/Gneiss... Perhaps a bit less. And you have the bonus of being able to fully refine ice using POS refineries (skills permitting), while with ore the highest you'll get out of a POS is 75% (with an intensive refining array).
Now, I haven't run the number on ice mining in a few months so I may be talking total rubbish... But the mineral and ice markets havn't moved by much in those months (zyd/mega has picked up a bit).

If you use a mining director with an active link, make sure he/she has fitted some remote reppers on.
Thats for the case a cheap fitted cruiser wants to play with your cheap fitted mack.
Carebear is the surname that others gives you, if you enjoy to play eve, in other way than the rest want YOU to play it. |

Or... you can hire Concord, by suicing an alt character on yourself, and get concord to appear and protect you.

Actually, it's just under 215 seconds with a Mackinaw, 2x Ice Harvester II's, 2x Ice Harvester Upgrade II's, the KMB-50 implant (for CPU), the BX-2 implant (ice harvester cycle time reduction 5%), and Exhumers skill to L5. The rest of what you suggested is correct. :)

ah 10 secs offf projected time is always nice.
Tried it with Rorqual yet?

Edited by: Clansworth on 04/06/2008 16:05:36 Uber best harvesting would be:

Director in Rorqual with: Industrial Core Mining Foreman Link - Laser Optomization Mining Foreman Mindlink - Slot 10 Mining Director V Warfare Link Specialist V Capital Industrial Ships V Industrial Reconfiguration V
This will give a cycle time of 198.7865 sec on the harvesters.. pulling in 4 blocks per cycle, each mackinaw would be getting 72.4 blocks of ice an hour.
That's a LOT of ice... All the while it could be compressed by the rorqual, and loaded compressed into POS refineries, thereby increasing refining speed.
