Does it have to be jumpdrives? That was of course my first thought too, but I guess it could be other things. How about teleport devices allowing The InterBus to zap people and stuff through space in no time?

To the NPC's, Titans and Jumpdrive tech are hardly "state-of-the-art" I think, especially to the Jovians. They are probably talking about something else.

Also..
I can go from Jove space to all the empires in less than an hour using conventional jumpgates. So it's no big thing for a Jove to do it. Sept for actually getting in and out of Jove space. That is the only thing.
If JumpDrives really are coming. I doubt they will be anything super special. I hope they are used through the Big Map. Where as you can only jump a certain amount of light years away from your current location (like you can only jump to the stars on the big map that are within 10 light years). And I hope JumpDrives have a 20 minute recharging period.

From what i remember a jump drive only lets you jump to one system away by default. But for each level of teh skill you have trained you are then capable of jumping 1 more system away. I also slightly remember that jumpdrives were not really a module but instead a part of a tech two ship? Let me know if im mistaken.

What I don't get is the time of the event
12:00 EVET is 13:00 UK and 14:00 Europe.
That means that most of the guys (me included) will be at work 
Is the event going to be a all day thing starting at 12:00?
Or is it going to last only a couple of hours?

it's been a long time since i've seen an event like this, but considering where it will be at and the numbers amassed there, expect server to crash hard and fast, or expect so much lag that u can't move.
and if you shoot at it, expect a big 'boom'! your ship! not the jove!

if th ejumpdrive tech is given to the 3 biggest corperations itdd be screwed, there are in the 50s corperations of about equal size, the only diffrence beeing the amount of alts.
if ccp wants to **** the game even more they should give it to 1 of the 3 biggest corperaitons though.
allthough ccp wanted to encourage new player = small corperations, so they shouldnt. either make it accasible to everyone or dont make it accasible at all , kthnx.
also player owned market sucks ass, plz ccp dont make it even more monopoly

And what would it matter if a bigger corporation got the technology? they would certianly has the resources to put it into production. Just because another big corporation gets richer doesn't mean you get poorer.

monopoly, dude just look at the inteceptor status etc, they cost 9 mil while they cost about 3 mil to build.

Only available through character creation though. So more than likely it wont work like trade, Biology, Mnemonics skills.

Well, you guys can TRY to kill it. But I would like to remind you of three things.
1) You are willing to use hostility against the more advanced of all races? One of their BS's could probably kill 5 or more of any BS we have. You don't go starting a war you can't win.
2) If Eve is an interactive community, what dop you think would happen, diplomatically if someone fired on and killed an official diplomat. All hell would break loose. And those realated to who fired would be the first on the list, by both Jove and the Empires/Concord.
3) YOu will be in a secure system. You even look at a ship wrong, and Concord and Sentry guns will light you up like a Nova. And can you imagine with all those ships in system, if half the COncord fleet warped in to engage all the people who fired, in that system? You would definalty have your server crash, and I would bet alot of you would come back to pods. 
Moral of the stroy here is, let the story unfold and stop acting like hard-on kids.

I would be led to believe that there is one (or both) reasons for such an event, either:
1. CCP wants to test their new servers by seeing how well they run with tonnes of people in various systems... begining in new caldari
OR/AND
2.This is a prelude to Shiva...
But I could be wrong on both accounts

I see all this talk about Jump Drives, but if anyone bothered to read the stories, Jump Drives have been around for a while. They have just only been available to the major empires, same thing with Titans. So I doubt they technological marvel the Joves will show will be jump drives.

Yeah, Obviously it's a nice event to celebrate Eve going live one year ago, combined with a possible prelude to new technology.
As with the Crielere station construction event though, I wouldn't expect new tech to drop during the visit itself. The new tech/items will likely filter in later, if this story arc is indeed meant to lead there.

Jumpdrives: definitely not, not tested and no titans.
Interbus: distinct possibility this leads up to Interbus
Tech 3 or > : no chance
New elite ships: no chance
Shiva: very probable this is the upswing to shiva. But dont expect it anytime in the next two weeks i would say.
And most of all, dont expect people NOT to try and kill the Jove with loads of dispensible frigates. If they succeed, STAR wanted it to happen, if they don't they didn't want it to.
No big thing, tho I'm slightly miffed at the timing of the whole thing. 12:00 GMT is just about the quitest time in Eve. (so not a good servertest either, of which the notion that that was what was meant by this event is ridiculous anyway). I will miss being there in a kestrel, ready to try and blast it if that is what's the event leads up to and just watch if it doesnt seem an invite for fighting when i get there.

Don't think jump drives are in the storyline yet. Could be the "Old Man Star" story mentions jumpdrives, but the guy was after all in cryostasis for an ammount of years, and the rest of his journey took quite a few years too. Hopefully player available jumpdrives will be faster :P
Can't wait for 12.00 gmt anyway :)

The jovian exploded and transported as lil pieces all over the place and he wasnt using a jump drive some sorta transporter system.
Also jump drives while not in game yet are in the storyline already faster than light article with some parts about jump drives.
