I currently living in the area of poor internet coverage. However, it has a good 3G signal and I was considering signing up for 3G internet.
Problem is this, if you go over your monthly allowence, it costs an arm and a leg, so does anyone have any clue how much downloading eve does over say an hour in different situations (such as pvp, pve, sitting in station and rotating your ship). Also if there is a difference in the rate between old and new clients.
My lack of net is only temporaly, but I would appericiate any information anyone can give me.

EVE was built to be very efficient on the bandwidth to minimize lag. I can't give you an exact number but i can tell you it's supposed to be able to run decently on a 56k. So it is very low. _______________

I was able to run Eve for some time over a dialup connection and with the excepetion of a little market lag and avoiding large battles, I was able to run it without any major problems, so I can't imagine it takes up much bandwidth at all.

http://www.paessler.com/prtg should allow you to measure it yourself, simply run eve for an hour and see how much it used.

EVE's bandwidth usage is very low and you can see that for yourself by hitting CTRL+SHFT+ALT+M to open the 'monitor' window and clicking on the 'network' tab. On that tab you will find all the information you need in real time.

Do stuff, like pew-pew, missions or even mining - just running the client won't shift enough data between client and server to give you an accurate idea of your usage.
Also, have you thought about an unlimited data deal which doesn't limit you like these 'fair useage' contacts do? (not sure what country ur in but in the UK you can get these pretty cheap with most of the networks)

I use about 3GB a month for an hour or two a night, with a few more hours on the weekend.

Some light PVE that doesn't require that fast reactions could be doable. I wouldn't PVP with that kind of connection.

If it isn't flatrate (fixed rate no download/upload limit), don't bother tbh.. I'd rather get a 56k modem land-line then.

In short, the bandwidth used surfing the forums is huge compared to what it takes to run the client.

I play on a 56k modem once or twice a week. It does work, but I wouldn't do anything to risky while on that kind of connection. I usually just rat or mine in Hi-sec.

'Normal' months about 55meg down 4meg up in the last 2 years per client (1 account) I switched PC's in 2007 so no data for it before 2007.
There was something in march which did a stunning 200meg down and 18meg up, prolly because of a patch I guess.
Take the response time into consideration when getting another connection

I recommend this Analogx: Net Stat Live to monitor your connection use. It looks much less bloated that the other recommended software. |

The bandwidth used by eve is negligible.

Up until last September when we moved house, I had to endure the torment of 56k dial up for 5 years, a few of which I spent playing EVE.
I was originally drawn to EVE due to the fact it was dial up friendly and up till last September I was still able to do everything from large scale fleet ops to mining without much of a hitch EVE is very bandwidth friendly!
