I was looking forward to get involved in FW and can't wait to the release of Empyrean Age. Today I finally found out I do not have long to wait...its beeing released on 10th June.
...damm!... I'm on Holiday until 15th June.
I expect I'll come back to a lot of wreckage!

And i was thinking i had time enough to build faction standing + get some skill with destroyers for the areas that only allow destroyers as largest ships. Well got the faction standing, but destroyers still on lvl 1 :(

It is always like that; always has been. CCP enjoy media coverage, and to keep media sources interested in the game, they release details to them before anyone else. That way the community has to view the details via proxy, proxy gets hits, game gets more coverage.

Do you need to build faction standings?

Edited by: Melor Rend on 29/05/2008 15:30:24 I was also totally amazed to hear that the release way going to be so early! I wasn't expecting the release before august tbh because I thought they'd want to release the Novel before the update. I'm overjoyed that I'll only have to wait another few days!!!
Go CCP!

It was stated in the live dev blog that you will need some faction standing to be able to sign up for that faction. However since the factions are desperate to get the help of capsuleers the requirements will be very low. I think it was stated that you'll require a faction standing of +0,5 to sign up so basically anyone is allowed to join except outspoken enemies of the faction.

Go CCP!
I was sure for a month now that they would be releasing sometime in June - I predicted mid-june, so tbh I'm a tiny bit surprised they are releasing by a week earlier then I originally thought.
Mass releases of dev blogs about it, they had almost a month ago said the release would be summer, on two instances, and it hit SiSi pretty much immediately after - so it was obvious the development of the expansion was moving pretty smoothly and release wasn't far off. ____________________

Edited by: Jack Gilligan on 29/05/2008 15:49:50 I'm very unhappy with this expansion, and CCP isn't listening to anyone, so I say, sooner this turd is ****ed out and forgotten, the better.
Hopefully they will listen to their players next time.
What I hope DOESNT happen is CCP gets obsessed with "tweaking" FW over and over because no one is using it, this will take away from doing what really needs doing, fixing bugs, adding ships, heck, even ambulation. The next 3 months will tell as to what CCP values more, their existing players (who largely won't benefit at all from this expansion) or in WOW's players, which clearly this is a step in the direction of. If they keep revisiting FW without fixing what is truly wrong with it (that it's not a universal system everyone is part of) you know they've chosen WOW over us.
Anyway, the pirates will have a couple good weeks then things will go back to normal as the militias empty and go back to highsec.

This.
It hasn't been tested properly. Complexes don't despawn some of the time, and missions are often 10+ jumps away from the agent.
At least the pirates will get some targets for a few weeks.

Translation: We want to rush out the new content and to hell with the consequences. Cant say I'm surprised at all. Always content over fixes and usability / lag. I wont be participating.

Can anyone from CCP take a moment out of their day to answer these questions:
- Graphics - are we getting anything new? More specifically, how are the effects revamp coming along? From my observations, effects currently have the most significant negative impact on performance.
- Sound - how's what coming along? Has there been any progress in this area? I specifically avoided the use of term 'department' as that would suggest that I'm delusional and believe you actually have an organizational unit within CCP that is responsible for sound effects. (Ehem. Sorry.)
- UI - at the time of release of Trinity expansion, there were talks about UI framework rewrite. Any news? (I will not put any thinly veiled insults here. See (2) and s/sound effects/UI/)
Thanks!
(I do realize I sound demanding, but at the same time I promise not to throw a hissy-fit if I don't get a response. I know I'm not entitled to one.)

Yeah, it's statements like that which are seriously giving me bad vibes about the current management mentality at CCP. If FW is worth doing at all it's worth doing RIGHT. It's NOT done right if it's essentially a pvp system but it prohibits most pvp'ers from participating.
CCP seems to think that they HAVE to get this out when they are putting it out for some reason. Faction Warfare has been delayed before, and the reasons given before were the right reasons to delay it. Why the sudden 180? This is faction warfare that is broken and not done right.
Furthermore, this expansion offers, uhh.. NOTHING else. One new T1 frigate for Amarr. Woot. NO new ship classes, NO new ships for existing classes, NO fix for assault frigates, no nano nerf, no boost to missiles in pvp, essentially nothing.
I've seen this sort of management style before. At SOE. In Star Wars Galaxies. As I said, the next months will tell us whether CCP has turned their backs on their existing players or not. SOE tried that, look where it got them.
I strongly urge CCP to cancel the release date of faction warfare, go back, get it DONE RIGHT, then release it. Do they want a vibrant warfare system that has all of New Eden taking sides in the war, or do they want what will be essentially an abandoned pvp mission system?

As has been stated more times then I can count: The people that develop new content for the game are not the same people that fix bugs. While I do agree that fixing bugs should have absolute priority over anything else, I understand that CCP can't very well tell all the arts designers and writers to go take a few months vacation while the technical people fix the game. They both work all year around so it's only logical that the guys developing new content will want to release their work once in a while independent of the release of fixes and technical improvements.
Also I don't quite understand why you are shouting about FW being for WOW-gamers.... I'm a long time EVE player and love (nearly) all forms of pewpew and I'm sure happy about the prospect of actually getting some action without spending god knows how long looking for a fight only to be blobbed to hell or have a bunch of nanos run away from any engagement. That part of EVE is necessary to protect your space or if you are following some specific goal but if you just log on for some fun then I'm sure FW will be exactly the right thing. (Especially for newer players that just want to test their skills and maybe train some PvP skills (the RL ones) before entering 0.0 where true PvP is pretty much non-existent or so rare that it makes no difference. By real PvP I mean fights where things like tactics and player skill come into play and not "who has more members online to outblob the others"...)

Explain to me how FW will give you pvp without blobbing?
It won't. Not unless the zones are restricted like... instances. Or they restrict the number of players who can get into a complex... Or put CONCORD like navy ships out there. Uggh. That is putting WOW into EVE, and I will hear NONE of it.
Agent is at site X. Complex is at site Y, which is Z jumps away. What is there to stop gatecamps of ships bigger than those T1 frigates or cruisers the complex you are going 15 jumps away through a known (to pirates) path?
Sure, it's pvp, all this should happen. But all those reasons are why current empire dwellers DONT go into lowsec and don't pvp, so they largely won't once they realize what they are in for, so the system will inevitably fall into near disuse.
That's the laughable mistake of all this, you don't make a PVP system for those who are currently non pvp'ers and exclude existing... pvp'ers from direct participation. This makes about as much logical sense as introducing a new mining and industry system for pvp'ers as a way to get them "into" it, but exclude existing miners and industrialists.

Also, make sure your settings are all noted.
This expansion is more then likely to delete all of your overview settings. Take screenshots of your overview settings for each catagory or at least write them down (Including priority settings)

I agree but CCP said that the only restrictions would be ship classes not numbers. So you can still bring your friends of have a third party jump in to have some fun.

I agree this is a problem but the major advantage of FW over open PvP is that it's actually viable to fly a cheap t1 ship (which is usually only possible in blobs and surly not in small gangs since every person counts). So you are right that pirates will have a field day but any noob can hop into a t1 frig an try and travel to the complex without risking a 200+mil HAC.
Also my hope is that FW will also bring more open-style PvP on gates and such - where there are pirates there may also be anti-pirates that will attempt to clear the strategically important routs as a part of the war effort. Just because I like the idea of t1 frig fights doesn't mean I'm not willing to risk other more expensive ships to allow my faction to reach a complex unharmed. (And more traffic in lowsec means more pirates, more anti-pirates, more people losing things and thus more people that want to buy new ships in lowsec so that means more chances for profit for courageous traders etc.)

Edited by: Jack Gilligan on 29/05/2008 16:53:00 It's perfectly useful to fit out cheap T1 ships for pvp, even in 0.0. You don't need T2 for everything. Blobbing though is going to be an inevitability, so long as superior numbers=advantage. Nothing will ever change that.
Also, with MWD's and scanners, nothing will stop larger ships from getting in there.

Sooo, the black rise is all-lowsec? What exactly would prevent pirates from taking over all of it and pwning anyone wanting to participate in FW?
