Edited by: DrHolliday on 30/05/2008 10:47:43 1, 6, and 11 are the channels you should use for 802.11g/n, as the other channels are blanketed by interference from these three channels as the frequency range of channels was increased with 802.11g. I use 11. At one point I switched to 8 after noticing there were a few wireless access points near me that were also using 11. This got me no gain and a huge loss in signal quality, so I switched back to 11 and it was fine.
As someone else has said, things like microwave ovens have a prodigious rate of killing wireless networks. Try to get the router as far away from neighbouring walls and your own microwave oven, as well as any other devices that may use microwave frequencies. - Reject GTC Price Hike: Thread | CSM |

Hey dude,
What wireless are you using on the PC's? One thing I would try doing is updating the firmware (be careful) on the wireless router and wireless device. Also download the most up to date drivers you can.
Hope this helps

I too am experiencing the absolute joys of replacing a router.
I have spent the last 2 hours trying to figure out whats wrong with the new one only to realise the ******* password is case sensetive and should be in caps as opposed to the alternating lower then upper cases.

The new router is still going strong at the moment, no more dropouts!
The router is currently in the hallway, so as far away for any other electronic devices as it can get, other than the phone.
Ive put my router on channel 11 and it seems to be working fine, since it was automatic before it makes sense that if it changed to a channel with lots of interference it would cause a dropout.
When the major dropouts started there had been no major change to do with the electronics in the house, but we have had sporadic dropouts for a long time.
Thanks for all the help btw.

P.S. if anyone is reading this and wants to buy my old wireless adsl router, grab it while you can (going for a song atm: link).
It works ok - I just got a newer one recently that works slightly better with my current ISP. My research services Spreadsheets: Top speed calculation - Halo Implant stats |
