Now, i was bored and wanted to try my hand at lvl 4's with a myrmidon, and i was really surprised with the results, and believe this to tank as well as a drake. The DPS is on the low side, but i usually fly with a friend so that isn't an issue, as i am the tanker.
Lows: 2 x MAR II 1 x EANM II 3 x Active hardener II's
Mids: 5 x Cap Recharger II
High: 2 x Drone link augmenters 1 x Light Neutron Blaster II
then some drones in the bay
Has anyone else experimented with this ship? i know isn't a good solo mission runner since the nerf, but i think it is nice as a tanker, and from testing it for a short time, it handled anything a lvl 4 could throw at it.

For a quick couple f questions, why only 3 active harderners? Rigs? How come the armor tank rather than a shield tank if you're not using cap in the highs anyway? Parrots, commence!

Edited by: drones man on 30/05/2008 00:16:59 sorry forgot rigs, this is my PVP ship i just decided to use, so teh rigs aint perfect
2 x auxil nano pump 1 x thermal resist rig
And i have no shield skills, so i tank armour, i am also a firm believer that this armour tank can match a passive one.
AS for the 3 hardeners, that works perfectly fine, it has been teste

I doubt you not that it works, I'm just asking your random "wouldn't it be better if"-questions. ;)
I'm an avid domiuser myself, I see no reason in the existance of the myrmid from start and wouldn't set my foot in one normally. Parrots, commence!

Well the reason for myrmidon is simple, i have a -3.8 sec status and cant retrieve a dominix to where i am based xD myrmidon was the only ship around!
When i have better sec i will be using my standard dual rep domi setup which i love.

Originally by: drones man i am also a firm believer that this armour tank can match a passive one.
if by passive you meant shield then:
against 75% thermic damage (chose thermic due to you having a thermic rig).
Armour: with that fit the best you can do with all skills at 5 (including battlecruiser for myrm bonus) and the rig modules being II is 625 tanking for just under 4 minutes.
Shielding: A character with no II modules and only level 1 the necessary shield skills (shield upgrades, tactical shield and shield rigs) can get 446 tanking for just over 6 minutes, while having a much higher ehp(46k vs 33k) than the above armour player. The tanking goes down to 251 with no cap.
A character with II modules can get 899 sustained tanking for just over 6 minutes, which goes down to 466 if theres no cap.

I bet with passive he meant passive shield (relying on shield recharge rate). As the rigs are on the ship he can well use armor tanking. If he had equal shield skills as armor skills, passive shield is the way to go. (And rigs make a big difference there).
Passive shield: Lows: 6x SPR t2 Meds: 3x LSE t2, 2x Invuln t2 Highs: 2x DLA, 4x 425mm Autocannon (maybe artillery, but needs cpu implant)
466 tanking with his rigs on.
909 tanking with 3 purger rigs for almost 13min. 678 tanking with one invuln only for an hour. 479 tanking with both of and perma.
With mission specific hardeners you last longer as they use less cap. Ship is tight on CPU, plenty grid to spare. Of course less shield skills = a lot less tank. So yes. armor tanking is the way to go for him.
Edit: Forgot to say. about 450 tanked is ok for level 4 if you manage aggro.

You wouldn't be using hybrids there would you, because I would hope your tank could run for more than 6 minutes. My myrm fitting will tank 887 and run for 51 minutes, I know which I would rather have for a mission...
edit: Also, mine only drops down to 640 dps tank when it has no cap.

There is no reason to shield tank the myrmidon when it gives bonuses to armor repping.
Quote: Battlecruiser Skill Bonus: 10% increase to drone hitpoints and damage dealt by drones, and 7.5% increase to armor repair amount per level
So a dual repping set up is better also the myrm has more low slots so it can armor tank better and please no EFT warrriors.

All gallente drone boats can be shield tanked quite easily. Lots of lows = easily boosted shield regen. Paired with capless guns (no hybrid bonus) and you have a valid choice in passive shield tanking. You even have enough tank if you go total capless and t1 rigs on the ship. Not much use besides missions (and I prefer the brutix anyway, Domi for l4), but the myrm can field a nice shield tank which opens up PG for guns.

I took that into account in my analysis and shield is still far superior.

When passive Shield-Tanking is superior to the ships build in armor-tanking bonus, then tsomething is wrong with balancing.

Uh thats nothing new I did quite some L4 in Myrm; but Dominix is the same just better even without any extra skills. Also I routinely run L4s on a noob char in Drake and it's far from tense. Oh and Myrm can outtank Drake if set up for an all out tank.

Edited by: Gimpb on 30/05/2008 17:11:42 When I was a complete nub doing missions in a myrm 5 months ago I bought into all the "passive tank rox" stuff.
So I actually worked through the Lv3s of ministry of war with a passive shield tank (mostly laser damage missions).
What I should have done was say screw the shield tanked myrmidon, worked on support skills that will actually be good for other gallente ships, and armor tank that thing. It would have been much easier... and broken warps only added insult to injury.
So I guess what I'm saying is unless you're cross training min/caldari or are big on T2 cruisers, work on your armor skills, they'll serve you better. There's not enough of a difference between armor tanking and shield tanking on the boat to be worth the cross train... especially since it's just a stop between the vexor and the dominix.

Yes, there are EFT warriors saying that their shields are better, but that is just a lie, and some of the numbers are just wrong. I get over 750DPS tank out of my active armour tank, and it is easy enough for anything i have come across so far.
Another thing that the EFT warriors might want to think about is the increased SIG RADIUS of a passive tank, where you will be taking more damage from the rats.

While using a shield tank is much easier to an extent the armor tank wins because SPR's take away cap recharger so you can do more damage with the armor tank by actually using rails or w/e long range gun you want because the myrmidon does not get a gun bonus.
For example you can fit a full rack of 200mm railguns so x6 + all your drones while running a 850dps tank while still putting out 400 damage with lead ammo. -------------------------------------------- ôHe who must expend his life to prolong life cannot enjoy it, and he who is still seeking for his life does not have it and can as little enjoy it" |

yay for the first reasonable (reasonable != optimal) shield tanked fit in the thread (still over tanked), you seriously don't want to cap out warping from station to gate to mission, watch out if you have to make 2 jumps!
overall the shield tanked and armor tanked have about the same efficiency, and both are over tanked for gurista/serpentis. if we switch to say sanshas, well the armor tanked should be able to do it with one rep running, and 4 hardeners. the shield tanked, still over tanked with a thermal and em hardener.
still doesn't change the fact you are better off in a battleship

A passively shield tanked myrm, using hybrids, is going to need some form of cap injector.

Firstly, myrm sucks for level 4 now, you WILL meet stuff you can't kill and what you can kill will take you a long time, so... get a domi, not much more expensive and easier to fit imo.
If you insist on a myrm use something like this, projectile weapons are imperative to a passive shield. this will prob complete lvl 4 without rigs if you don't suck as a pilot, but again, get a domi lol.

Edited by: Drone AI1 on 01/06/2008 10:29:34 I agree that getting into a domi is better in the long run, was just saying that if he insists on a myrm tanker and plans to keep it for quite some time (full on t2 rigs...etc), then he might as well go a shield tanking myrm that can do better than a armour myrm for much lower SP and ISK.

Fail. I did many level 4s at 2.5 months old in my Myrm, nothing I couldn't kill. Yes, it did take longer, though.
2x CCC, 1x Aux nano Pump. 4x Modal Neutron Blaster, 2x drone link aug. 1x 10Mn T2 AB, 4x T2 Cap Recharger. 4x T2 Mission Specific Hardener, 2x t2 medium Armor Repairer.
That setup rocked. Also, T2 drones take **** long to train for, if you are going for them you are probably already in a domi. --------------------------- Your neighborhood sociopath. |

I have good drone skills since i wanted to max out my arbitrator. So now i was thinking on missions and earlier ive been flying Harbinger for missions but it was teh suck, now i see this little gem and realise i can actually fly it. (i have gallente cruiser lvl 3 didnt realise battlecruisers is a non racial skill) and got BC lvl IV.
So i was thinking something along this way
[highs] 5 x 200 mm Prototype Gauss Gun I w/ Plutonium (cant use t2 med hybrids) 1 x Medium solace remote rep
[meds] 4 x Cap recharger II 1 x 10 MN AB II
[lows] 2 x Mar II 4 x Mission specific Hardeners
Drones: 5 x Hammerhead II 5 x Medium Armor Maintenance bots
The remote repping is cause im doing my missions with a friend who is also in a myrm if anyone of us whould get all the aggro and by some act of malicious missions designers we wouldnt be able to tank the other guy can switch to armor rep drones and remote rep the other guy.
[EDIT: tested on friends EFT and it will work quite nicely with a dps of slightly under 300 with optimal at 16 km with 13 km falloff runs cap stable with AB and Remote repper off or with remote repper on and MAR:s off] ----------------------------------------------------------------------
