Edited by: AnKahn on 30/07/2008 19:29:18 Edited by: AnKahn on 30/07/2008 19:28:50 What's funny was a recent episode where I was caught in a belt by 2 HACs and a couple of interceptors and a cruise Raven in my passive tanked Myrm. I'm Caldari so I have nearly maxed shield skills.
They beat on me for like 10 min and maybe got my tank down to 75%. I was reporting this in the intel channel but only one corpie was on. WITHOUT telling me he was comming he jumped into the belt with his Domi.
Imagine my suprise when I was suddenly in warp. Then I heard that they have turned on him. Why they did not keep a point on me I'll never know.
He was popped before I could turn around and get back to the belt.
He's a slightly younger player than me, I think, but not that much.
I could have tanked those guys till downtime.
Put that in your armor pipe and smoke it!
Edit: In fairness to the story the guys came back in their battleships and popped me. Also I did not kill any of them, could not tackle them (mids full of tank), and had all my drones popped. The ship is completely useless for PvP set up that way.

That's the exact problem you have in a Tank Drake. Yep you can absorb an inordinate amount of punishment but what good is taking a beating when you're defending yourself with the equivalent of a rubber band gun?

That reminds me of a pre-Empyrean Age encounter...Missioning in lowish sec with my nighthawk, I get lazy with my channel watching and am jumped by two guys...a recon and a HAC (Amarr I think...was a while ago). Anyway, at first I didn't even realize they were there; I just thought a Serpentis NPC had jammed my launchers, and was all ****ed off that the jammer wasn't listed in EVE survival.
Anyway, I only get a volley off every 5 minutes or so, but they clearly can't break my tank. After about 10 minutes it becomes clear neither of us are running out of cap in a way that impedes us, so I ask if they want Ransom. They asked for a huge sum (like 200m), so I decide to wait them out.
They pound on me for 35 minutes while I thrust at like 23m/s towards the station...it would take me like 3 weeks to arrive :)...I was hoping they would give up as I wasn't exactly faction fitted, but eventually two friends in BS's arrived and I lived another 30 seconds :)

Originally by: drones man Yes, there are EFT warriors saying that their shields are better, but that is just a lie, and some of the numbers are just wrong. I get over 750DPS tank out of my active armour tank, and it is easy enough for anything i have come across so far.
Another thing that the EFT warriors might want to think about is the increased SIG RADIUS of a passive tank, where you will be taking more damage from the rats.
Dman
1) The attributes of all BCs make them easily passive shield tanked.
2) On a BC in lv4 missions you are already taking near max damage from NPCs so increased sig radius is moot point.

This thread is a bit disheartening. I have been training up armor skills and figured that the rep bonus of the Myrm and low slots meant it was armor inclined. If however, a passive tank with low shield skills holds its own relative to an armor setup, I am left wondering if armor tanking gets completly left in the dust on ships w/o an armor related bonus.

Versive,
You should not be bothered about the WTF powerful shield tank.
The passive shield tank is strong and requires little cap (yes, even with invul fields its passive). So ideal for PvE up to BC size. But, if you want to do lvl 4 missions at max isk/hr, bring a BS. Either shield tanked or armor tanked, but it will be active.
Passive shield tanks suck for PvP (generally, except for bait).
Buffer tanks are uber for PvP.
Now you can get a nice buffer tank from both shields and armor.
But, bottom line, the PvP toys are in the mids. And no matter what, shield tanking takes up some of those mids.
So armor tanking a waste of time? I don't think so.
The End

Here's a thought, make a passive tanked myrm capstable(r) w/ rails/blasters (or just in general) by using a nos. |
