Quote: From Nightfang:
This galaxy holds a lot of surprises and there is always something new to learn.
Just now we were camping with a bunch of frigates in PF-346. A BBBB Kestrel jumps in and quickly warped to the other gate. I warp there too in my Crow. When I reach the other gate, I find myself alone. I wait, and about a minute later the Kestrel appears at the gate 60km away.
At this point I figure the Kestrel did this in order to be able to fire up a dual MWD and sail past me with the momentum he gains. The pilots name was Speed Of Shiva and, having never heard of him, I imagined he was some back office lackey. Imagine my surprise when I see the Kestrel starting to make for the gate with the speed of a single MWD. Slightly confused, I fire up my own MWD and quickly approach him. Thinking he would react like most other people and not return fire I, for the first time ever, ignored to set my ship in orbit but simply hit "approach".
Webs engaged at the enemy, a cruise missile salvo of two away. Meanwhile my Crow rams into the Kestrel from the pure relative speed. My cruise missiles hit and I see the Kestrel begin to explode.
Now this is where I get a start. A fraction of a millisecond before the Kestrel explodes; I hear and see two missiles get launched from it. Panicked, I try to steer my ship away, but I get stuck in the very pod and cargo-container I had just helped spawn.
Kaboom. Hull damage. Kaboom. Mailbox and wallet starts pulsating.
Two pods blinking at each other near two cargo-containers with some nice equipment in them. We start talking, and I ask if BBBB sells Crows. It so happens they did, and they even cut me a great deal on a new one. At least compared to the ludicrous Nonni prices...
I don't know if I'm the only one seeing the humour in all of this. Perhaps it's one of those things you should have been there to understand. Anyhow and anyway, I am on my way now to pick up a brand new Crow from BBBB. If they laugh at me in local, I guess they've deserved it.
It is heartening to be able to refer to a live and true event as an exhibition of the ways of the Caldari people. As such I salute a Caldari pilot: Speed of Shiva, for exhibition of a true Caldari way:
#9 Opportunity and instinct can always lead to profit, no matter the circumstances.
