Hi all. Been mining for about 3 weeks now (as much as I can, anyway, as work and "real world" stuff has been taking up time that would be better spent in Eve), and I've got a question for those of you who mine in Caldari space (which I assume is most of you).
I've been wondering what ore will offer me the best return for a Badger full of the minerals refined from it. Plag is a 0.5-0.7 ore, and it's the only high-sec ore to offer Mexallon, but I'm really not sure if I should be spending my time mining it.
Would I be better off just mining Dense Veld, rather than the highest Plag?
Thanks for your help, and I'm sorry if this has been asked before (or recently), but I can't seem to find the answer in the forum pages I've looked at.

It depends on system you're mining, how far you're willing to move the ore/minerals, your actual refining rate in the best place you can find in your "willing to move" range, and on the mineral orders already on the market plus your patience (either sell to buy orders, or put up sell orders and adjust as necessary, if necessary).
Could be either one of them, really. Too many factors to consider, too close in average value, etc.

I'm currently mining in a 0.5 space about 5 jumps from Jita (won't say where, for fear of Pirates stalking these boards), and my current plan is like this:
1) Mine until I can fill up my Mk.II with ore, then return to my home station in that system 2) Refine there. I've currently got Refining III complete, training Refining IV. 3) Repeat 1 and 2 until I can fill up my Mk. II with whatever mineral (Trit, Pye, Mex). 4) Transport the minerals to Jita. 5) Sell it off.
Then again, the intricacies of this game still elude me to some degree, so if there's some element to consider that I'm not aware of, well, that's probably my own fault.

Let me guess... you also have no standings whatsoever with any of the stations in your "usual system" ? That means you're actually losing up to 15% of your potential minerals right now, and will still be losing almost the same with Refining 4, and that only if the station you use is one of the "good" stations, otherwise it's closer to 30% lost or thereabouts. You can get down to 5% with a couple of levels of ore-specific processing in one of the "good" stations, but for the last 5% you need standings with the station owner. In your particular case, it might be more beneficial to just sell the ore instead, for now anyway. Again, depends on wether somebody will buy it or not right there.
In the end, it all comes down to how much you want to bother with it all... or just take a small percentage loss.

Pretty much
I have decided I need to find a better system, though. The NPC station I currently refine at doesn't have any agents to run missions for (at least, not at my level), so I'll probably need to pack up and move my operations elsewhere. I'd forgotten how much I'm really losing, and it does indeed add up.
Looks like it's time to get a Moa and go kill some rats.

Hi,
If you wanna see what ORE is the most profitable to mine, check out my table: http://cerlestes.chaos-servers.de/oreprice.php Hope it'll help you :)
To short answer your question about Veld, Scor and Plag: Veldspar is the way to go ;) (<3 chribba)

I've found Plag and pyro to be a good money earner,as the trit market seems to have taken a hit lately but everyone always seems to need mex.By the way getting "404 connection error" when i attempt to connect to your link...

Thats the thing about this game, their is perma preasure to equalise the mining price per hour of every mineral in the game in each mining group (Empire-Low-00) I suspect some of the odd priceing currently is due to people who dont realy pay that mutch attention to their macro-mining account setting that they put together over a month ago or who just set up the macro to mine the closest roid ***** **** Trust Aura. Aura is Your Friend.
If your too paranoid to play EVE. . .
Then your not paranoid ENOUGH to play EVE |

Edited by: Alex Redwidth on 30/05/2008 13:40:37 You're right in thinking Plag will give you the best return per haul, but as pointed out Veldspar will give you more ISK/hour and you'll find no shortage of people willing to buy it and pick it up, especially if you stockpile it for a few weeks.
If you are looking to maximise your earnings per haul though, you might want to move to Amarr and take a look at Kernite, higher Mex ration and Isogen, which means even less hauls and more return per haul of refined minerals. Kernite is also slightly better m3/hour than Plag.
Edit only just read your explanation of how you mine... Veldspar, hands down. Stockpile it up, then sell it on the minerals and manufacturing channel, you'll most likely be able to get buyer to pickup.

Erm, I guess I should clarify.
I mine with an Osprey (of course), and I jetcan mine until it's full enough to haul back. Just in case anyone thought I was mining with a Badger Mk. II

Actually, we were hoping it's a Retreiver or a Covetor. Well, at least I was.
You'd be getting shedloads more ISK/hour by running first L2 missions in a Caracal, then L3s in a Drake. Heck, with storylines included, courier missions might be better still.

In this case I would suggest joining an industrial corp with pilots that can help you refine, haul etc. Then join in on corp mining ops. This way you'll get maximum use out of your skills.
There are several industrial corps out there hungry for miners. Aeon of Strife is one of them (shameless plug).

Edited by: MotoMissles on 31/05/2008 05:12:12 Personally, I just mine the entire belt until all the roids are gone. I <3 my Hulk.
As far as isk/hour, most miners are going straight for the veldspar these days.

Well, seeing as how I'm the better part of a year away from using a Hulk with any effectiveness...yeah, Osprey is gonna be my miner for a while, it seems
