Search before you post!
Someone asked almost the same question yesterday.
Most people agree your better off with a Drake for PvP.
As for a setup, how about you propose some ideas yourself first? I will say however that Shield relays with a shield recharger and less extenders gives a better recharge rate than more extenders with PDUs instead of relays. If passive is what you are going for.

Alright ok, maybe solo setup may be little dumb thing to ask, but personaly was thinking of this
High's -> 6x heavy missile launcher II's other slot not sure
Medium -> 2x large shield extenders,2x invun field t2?? not quite sure about that, warp disruptur or a faction one, stasis web
low's all shield power relays t2
rigs -> Field purger rigs and some ECM drones
PS i searched for nighthawk fitting and it woudnt search, will check tho.

So if you're solo in that.. who or what exactly do you plan to try and kill?

I don't actually fly the Nighthawk, but what about something like this?
[Nighthawk, New Setup 1] Ballistic Control System II Ballistic Control System II Ballistic Control System II Power Diagnostic System II Damage Control II
Large Shield Extender II Invulnerability Field II Stasis Webifier II Warp Disruptor II 10MN MicroWarpdrive II
Heavy Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Scourge Heavy Missile Heavy Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Scourge Heavy Missile Heavy Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Scourge Heavy Missile Heavy Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Scourge Heavy Missile Heavy Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Scourge Heavy Missile Heavy Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Scourge Heavy Missile [empty high slot]
Core Defence Field Extender I Core Defence Field Extender I
Warrior II x5
For gang, replace the point and web with an EM hardener and a second invulnerability field.

I ran into two pirates sitting on a low sec gate using FOF missiles to pop the care-bears. They were not really pirating but just attacking random ships on the gate. No one bothered them as who wants to take the time to pop 2 nighthawks.

Okay...you're not gonna listen to me anyways so I don't know why I'm bothering buuuut... You clearly don't know how to fit a Drake for PvP much less a Nighthawk. PvP nowadays you're really looking for effective HP and good damage much more than good HP regen and crap damage. You seem to want to passive tank, unfortunatly when you passive tank with all SPR IIs your damage is crap and so is your capacitor. You struggle to run a few hardeners much less tackle gear and if you're solo there's no point in engaging if you can't tackle. In a gang you would annoy your gangmates more than your enemy with a massive tank and no damage. Nighthawk is overpriced, but it is a good PvP ship. Fit it correctly however.
This setup is hard to fit and requires pretty high skills but is pretty good. Not as much effective HP as a good battleship but it'll do:
NIGHTHAWK 6x HAM II, 1x Small Dim Nos 10MN MWD II, Disruptor II, Web II, Photon Field II, LSE II 3x BCU II, Suitcase II, RCU II 2x Core Field Extenders
5x Hobgoblin IIs/5x Warrior IIs/5x Hornet ECM drones, any of these can be good
Funny thing is if you use a Drake fit like so:
DRAKE 7x HAM II, 1x Small Dim Nos 10MN MWD, Faint Disruptor, Fleeting Web, LSE II, 2x Invuln II 3x BCU II, PDS II 3x Core Field Extenders
5x Hobgoblin IIs/5x Warrior IIs/5x Hornet ECM drones
You get 75dps less than the hawk but 2k more effective HP for a whole heck of a lot less ISK. A much better learning ship.
Both of these ships require near max fitting skills but you can drop some things like the small nos and downgrade some of the T2 mods to named to save CPU where needed.
HAMs would be the weapon of choice for small gang PvP. Too many carebears train Heavies instead of HAMs for their carebearing needs then try to use em in PVP. The damge from heavies is just awful and the missiles are too slow to be all that useful at the ranges that they get as advantage over HAMs. Sure HAMs don't hurt the smaller targets as much, but that's what your drones are for. They also do a lot more damage.

the mwd is for moving. rumour has it that targets you shoot often move away from you, some of the more eveil ones even refuse to let you within web range
if you've got Battlecruiser V, you'd be better off training another races cruiser V for a viable solo CS (sleipnir wouldn't be a bad option, you've already got the shield skills). the nighthawk doesn't really offer anything that can't be done by the drake just as well (or better ... i.e cost efficiency) so for pvp there genuinely is no point. but it's your game, do as you will.
i'm doing much the same atm, training amarr cruiser V to make use of my good missile skills with the sacrilege and damnation. in the meantime using a drake as the best gank option available for caldari. _____________________________________ today i am this cool: [uncool]================[*]====[cool]

Start out in a Battlecruiser (or cruiser, for that matter), or you'll be losing a lot of isk in your first few days of attempting piracy.
Command ships are kindof "meh" in general.

So you bought your character, plus some isk and want to solopwn in pvp?
Start in cruisers or frigs and find some friends (Maybe Snigg or some other PvP school) to learn off before you take out a CS.
Otherwise let me know where you are so I can come help you learn

PvPing without a MWD and expecting to not get blown up is like having sex without a condom and expecting to not get pregnant.
Sometimes you don't even without a Condom/MWD, sometimes it happens even with the MWD/Condom. But it's a lot more likely without one. ______________________________________________ -You can never earn my respect, only lose it. It's given freely, and only grudgingly retracted when necessary. |

Edited by: Prevelance on 01/06/2008 17:33:30 (this is for max tank only) You can add tackle/ subtract tank from this point to accomodate needs.
The principal stayes the same for alot of these ships. The nighthawk is interesting as when you max out the tank with the sheild harmonizing link, due to it's low slot's it will actually tank a bit more than the vulture, although because of the lower grid, this means you would have to drop to assalt launchers as your weapon. I'll show you the numbers both ways:
Rigs: Core Defence Field Purger x2
Lows: 5x Sheild Power Relay II's
Mids: 2x Large Sheild Extender II's 2x Invul Field II's 1x Photon Scattering Field II
Highs: Seige Warfare Harmonizing Assalt Launcher II Assalt Launcher II Assalt Launcher II Assalt Launcher II Assalt Launcher II Assalt Launcher II
In Gang Stats: Sustained Tanked DPS 1593 Resists: 80/ 89/ 87/ 86 Hitpoints: Effective 109,597.
Heavy Launcher Accomodation
Rigs: Core Defence Field Purger x2
Lows: 5x Sheild Power Relay II's
Mids: 2x Large Sheild Extender II's 2x Invul Field II's 1x Photon Scattering Field II
Heavy Missle Launcher II Heavy Missle Launcher II Heavy Missle Launcher II Heavy Missle Launcher II Heavy Missle Launcher II Heavy Missle Launcher II Cloak/ Whatever
In Gang Stats: Sustained Tanked DPS 1479 Resists: 79/ 88/ 85/ 84 Hitpoints: Effective 102,794.
